@Gunhard Wolf I agree wholeheartedly. The way they had Max just brush Mona off was one of my biggest problems with MP3. I loved the tension between him and Mona in MP2. I always felt the whole point of the love story in that game is that the kinship he feels with Mona is the closest thing he has to being happy again - a way to crawl out of the hole he's in. But of course, being Max Payne, he's worried that life has a way of taking things from him. So, Mona was clearly important to him. They should have at least had him visit her grave and comment how he misses her too.
This. There were barely any connections between this game and the other Max Paynes. Rockstar should have just made a new IP and called it a spiritual successor.
+fountainhead She's not DEAD.. that's not denial, I just think it was a way for them to open the field to more possibilities of further sequels. In a way, the way he brushed her memory off, sort of concretes the thought that, she maybe alive.
Max couldn't afford to wallow in the past though. That's the point, I think. After Max succeeded in protecting Passos' girl and unborn child, I think this made him a better man because he would not fail this time, because Max didn't want Passos to walk a mile on his shoes. This was all Max's second chance and he went for it. He finally got the ending he deserved.
I mean it's kinda what he should have done from the jump, Max's suffering stems from his inability to let go, to the point where when everything is said in done he's in a foreign country, protecting people he doesn't even like very much and then after he fails goes on a rampage trying to put things right in a situation that has nothing to do with him. Rockstar's allegory is clear, he's engaging in this reckless behavior because he's trapped going on just torturing himself and Mona was never really a real replacement for the family he lost, nor do I think it would have worked long term it was just him trying to cope when he needs to let go as he does at the end of the third game.
They kinda brushed off everything from the last 2 games in this title. We never find out what happens to Bravura (he dies from a heart attack in the comics, after dismissing Max from the NYPD with a pension), Mona is never mentioned at all, Max is reduced to a fat, alcoholic wreck (the Max from MP1 & 2 would kill himself before allowing himself to fall that low), no other characters are mentioned beyond humorous easter eggs.. in my opinion, Max Payne ended after The Fall of Max Payne. "I had a dream of my wife. She was dead. But it was alright."
Fred Herbert Actually Mona is mentioned in chapter 8, something like ''I still hadn't forgiven my self for Mona business, but I knew that was just a grief, insanity that comes with losing the life you built'' Overall I liked MP3, his story couldn't go any other way but this.
Not really it's not only a reference to Mona Sax but it's a reference to Max Payne's hallucinations from the past games man. What was he supposed to say: "Oh no, my babydoll Mona..." Nah, he loves his wife and child more and I think he respected their memory.
Nice easter egg, but that's all. I hate the way he mentions her at the graveyard. He makes it sound like she was nothing comapared to his wife and no big deal for him, even when MP2 was mainly about Max and Mona's lovestory. MP3 may be a good game, but it isn't really Max Payne for me. I wish Remedy did it, FU Rockstar.

You all want the same shit on a silver platter, but it wouldn't work. Sam Lake said, that it would be worse and stranger if R* tried to make a Remedy game and they didn't. Good for them, too bad for you.
I noticed it in my first playthrough, it was an obvious reference, i mean, the name of the Hotel is Mona, the voice actor did the voice of Mona in MP2, its interesting, and there's the Special Edition Mona for MP3 Multiplayer.
I think it WAS canon. At the end of Max Payne 2, no matter which ending you got, he still got over his depression. In Max Payne 3, he is worse than before. I think Mona left him after he lost his job as a cop and her betrayal, on top of his unemployment and loads of free time to ponder and fret, made him even more depressed than before.
Eh, Mona doesn't seem like the kind of person to just tell Max to leave after his dismissal. She'd probably try to pull him into contract killing, or politics or something and "back him up" (kill his rivals, of course).
@@fredherbert7920 I think the canon ending is mona dying because if you look at what max says he says “I must be losing it” now I don’t think max would have said that if Mona was alive maybe he would have said “mona?” Or something like that but the way max says “I must be losing it” it seems like Mona died many years ago, so maybe that’s why max said that But ay let me know what you think
@@Basan614Honestly I think it's pretty much inescapable that Mona dies at the end of Max Payne 2, and overall it's a better fit to the tragic tone of Max Payne's story, His "curse" is that He ALWAYS gets to live but NEVER gets a happy ending

Forgive it for what? Max Payne 3 was an excellent game. Plus, doing the whole neo-noire element of the first two wouldn't have made sense. It's a good thing they went in a new direction with 3. Plus, for the first time in the series, Max's storyline ends kind of happily rather than tragically, standing over loved ones dead.
I do hope she is not dead as in Max Payne 2, on the highest difficulty at the end of the game she survives and they are both found by the police and saved. And that she would make an appearance in Max Payne 4 or her own spin-off game if Rockstar wakes up and continues this blast series. :(
The evidence is solid. In the Max Payne 3 Universe there is a hotel named after her, promoted by her own voice. She is alive. Otherwise its a stupid missleading easteregg.
I think, canonically, she just dies a little later instead of right there at the end. Finishing the game on hard just buys Max a little more time with her before she passes.
Which is bs. So basically, theyre telling fans of Max Payne 2....you know that game, where Max has a dream he murders his wife for his lover (Mona), where he says,"I cant live without her..." Yea....sorry guys, it was only a spring fling. FU Sam Lake, sorry about that, but hey...here is Max Payne 3 and a bunch of characters you can give 2 shits less about! Enjoy our game, it has a lot of cussing in it! And we know kids like cussing!
