This was a shock. Did not know until reading the comments and then went immediately to confirm. God... If there are any remakes to be made, they gotta use those old voice files. McCaffery was Payne. I just can't believe it...

I actually prefer James McCaffrey's look in Max Payne 3. I love Sam Lake, but especially here, he looks more like he should play Mr Scratch - a psycho.

@@michacieslak2346 James McCaffrey made Max Payne 3 in every way. In Alan Wake 2, he sounds "a bit" like Max in MP3. I'm so torn between having the Sam Lake looks or James McCaffrey looks, but I wouldn't be disappointed either way and we always get the voice.

i really didn't like what rockstar did on max payne 3, the character really didn't look nor feel like max payne at all after 2, i'd say, even the max payne of max payne 2 started to depart from the original design too.

Same I've tried not to watch anything from Alan Wake 2 id rather not be spoiled but I couldn't help myself and the Sam Lake model Max Payne brought so many memories of Max Payne back. It sounds lame but I did actually get chills hearing and seeing Max Payne in all his new gen glory Rest in Peace James Mcaffery.

No my friend…it’s gonna be better. Remedy even said in a recent interview. Alan Wake 2 was in development since 2019, the Max Payne remakes development started back in 2021 with more advanced tech being applied, it’s gonna look better than this and it’s going to be 1&2 combined into one game and it’s gonna be they’re longest game in story completion.

But doesn't rockstar still hold the rights?

I love this song "Poets of the Fall - Late Goodbye" it has really Max Payne 2 atmosphere and I'm glad thet Remedy pick this one for the soundtrack of the game. The best is when Mona singin it in the shower, or the cleaner plaing it on the piano. I love Remedy games, they are so atmospheric @@AFGuidesHD

That’s Alex baldur. His character is a separate thing, meant as a imitation of baldur from Norse mythology, who’s death begins ragnarok, a fight between the gods/ apocalypse. Alex’s death is a preface to the events of the game and sets everything in motion

It's always great to see something the fans want lol.

The only level I hated was the nightmare where you had to follow the blood stream. I kept falling off the map.

They don't take place in the same universe because Rockstar own the Max Payne IP and character (they paid Remedy a ton of money back around 2001/02 to buy the rights, then hired them to make Max Payne 2 and the money they made from that project they used to make Alan Wake 1), so they'd have to pay Rockstar a bunch of money to reuse the character. What they've done instead is create a very, very similar character whom they can use instead. They do the same thing with Quantum Break, at least two characters from that game show up in Alan Wake 2, one played by the original actor, the other by a different actor giving a similar performance (the original actor sadly passed away a few months ago), but they give them different names because Microsoft own the rights to Quantum Break. But they do say they have different names and appearances in different times and places, so you get the idea.

@@adamwhitehead7289yeah. I sometimes forget that Rockstar owned the Max Payne IP from them. But it’s nice to see that Remedy still care about their old game, and seeing Sam Lake as a Max Payne reference really brings that old memories back as a kid.

@@adamwhitehead7289 You're right, but don't forget that Remedy Entertainment are in fact currently remaking Max Payne 1 and 2 into one game. It was confirmed last year and the website updated a few weeks ago to clarify that it's not fake and that they have a new development agreement deal with Rockstar just for this IP.

In Max Payne 3. They gave us a chance to use alternate costumes including Sam Lake Max. Hopefully they add both James McCaffrey and Sam Lake Max as costumes.

​@@munanchoinc costume is cool but i want Sam as Max here (as much as i love Max Payne 2 actor). Remake will absolutely be super heavy on motion capture, photography and acting. Don't think they will make two options. I vote for Sam Lake. The most iconic Max Payne. He is Max Payne.

They’ve also already made a live action movie based on the first game, although it was garbage. I was obsessed with this game when it came out, I was only 10 years old. Max Payne is still 🔥 to this day. Can’t wait for the remakes of 1/2.

The first game was more of an unexpected hit. Especially in Asia, most people who owned a computer had played Max Payne 1. Max Payne 2 however is a good case of a cult hit, it failed to advertise properly and was too short to justify it’s price (According to many people)

@@DendritesAugustus strange really that it was a failure financially. i remember the hype when i was in school. everyone waited for max payne 2 , everyone played and everyone loved it. we showed each other our screenshots of cool bullet time shit...it was a big improvement, better gameplay, better story, best graphics in gaming and it was greatly optimised even for very so so PC i had at the time. max payne 2 - is still the best memories from any game i have ever played.

You can see him having trouble to uphold the "Max sound" at certain spots, but somehow it still works in his favor. Like all Max's drinking messed him up even more. Man's still got it and it's great to hear our old friend again, esp. with good, spiteful writing. Jackhammer & cement your name into the history for good, James. Also, I'd guess they'd leave his original voicelines in remasters \ remakes.
