Her hair looks a bit redder than before (though that could be the lighting) and here eyepatch is now transparent but otherwise it stuck pretty close to the last design. Not a bad thing mind you, just pointing it out
Some changes i noticed with her is her demeanor, her splash art looks more rugged and serious, contrary to her rev2 design where she was over the top cocky and showed off her assets. Her lines seem more chill now, in rev2 she would straight up diss the enemy, now she looks like she calmed down, and her taunt looks like a normal laugh.
I saw a comment on the trailer saying the lyrics in the song is referencing "climbing a mountain and overcoming odds" in some way, so she's probably had some major character development.
@@RenShinomiya121 It could prove to be _challenging_ at best. Kabari (S ver.) tethers foes, and Potemkin relies on close range for Pot Bustah, so Baiken mains are (or should be) aware of that. I could be wrong though.
@@gershizzle7914 Yeah, facing against Potemkin basically forces Baiken to not use 2 of her tools (Kabari S and Throw, because throw also tethers) Not having access to Throw in this game is bad since it's your disengagement tool and for baiken, a hard knock down lets you setup air tatami.
She looks like she's got some neat stuff. I was wondering what she'd lose though and it looks like they replaced her special counters with one super ordinary fighting game counter. Although I'm sure it will land 90% of the time and the player base will be calling for nerfs without ever realising they can whiff punish it.
I have heard that fighting games is just a super flashy game of rock paper scissors. Meanwhile the majority of the fgc seem to choose rock over and over again
I really like how she attaches herself to opponents making it hard for zone players to get a way from her and just play defense or find an opening while surviving her assault.
@@mikhail21 That would just be a match-up specific situation then. Like yeah she ain't gonna want to Attach herself to a grappler, but she will most definitely want to attach herself to Axl or Happy Chaos
@@mikhail21 Funny thing was that Potemkin is always a bad matchup for Baiken no matter what game she's in. Even the best ver. of her in AC+R still got TOD by Pot when he got 75% in the corner.
@@zhaoyun255 For real. I watched SquidGuy fought a very good Potemkin (it's in his channel) and he was struggling so hard. I hope she'll be able to climb that wall in Strive.
Her design definitely catches the eye, but honestly after seeing her in action I don't really mind the way they took it. She comes across as intense in just about every sense of the word (facial expression, tone, movelist, posture and animations, etc.), so I think it works.
I mean, she might be kind of eye candy, but she also is insanely cool,so at least for me the way she flaunts her assets contributes to her coolness since it's like she is an insanely confident character
Don’t know what you’re talking about her design is literal perfection. That is a woman fully aware of her abilities and completely confident in her body. 10/10 please never change Baiken
@@MiketheNerdRanger i mean I get what you mean but there’s that other side that tends to say that women with big tits aren’t allowed to exist, and that’s unfair too. Cause there are women with big tits and they can’t help being born with genes that makes them have big breasts.
Okay okay okay, sure there's no need for the "omg titties what of the children??" talk, but let's not jump to the opposite extreme either. To genuinely expect her kimono to keep her massive... assets... contained as she air dashes around isn't being confident in one's body... it's having zero understanding of the laws of physics. That part of her design's primary purpose is for her to be pleasing to the eyes of male audiences. Which is fine.
She's definitely a character I would enjoy using more. Always enjoyed using her in the previous installments, her new gameplay style is certainly an interesting addition.
I like that you can tell she recovered from battle injuries, her body language shows she's struggling to do everything. Really amazing attention to detail.
The character portraits in this game are so freakin' good. And I'm saying that unironically. This isn't a "heuhue Big Baiken Gameplay Features" joke, I genuinely love that character art.
You can already tell some people are too prudish about showing skin but I agree about the art. Strive's character portraits do a great job of encapsulating their characters and Baiken is no different
She has 2 very Big reasons to incentive you to play: - Her redesing makes her look cooler than ever - gameplay redesign may maker her actually fun to play now for more time than just the honeymoon period
REV2 Baiken does somehow look more "eye-catching" in Strive, I'll agree. I've seen more "eye-catching" designs, tho. But in all seriousness, she looks great in gameplay. The outro with the swords looks so friggin' cool, and she looks extremely fun to play, to boot. And the stage looks beautiful! ArcSys just did a beautiful job.
I was genuinely surprised to hear that her English voice actress is Erica Luttrell. I immediately knew once I heard her spoke. If you don't know, she voices Bangalore in Apex Legends. Edit: My bad it's not her. She just sounds really similar to her.
I thought she sounded like Bangalore at first but her performance is so different with Baiken I thought I was just hearing things. Cool fun fact, thanks for sharing!
Teachinally she always meant to be that eye catching since she came in, she is the largest in the whole GG cast. Edit: really her design has changed at all. It's just bigger hair and bigger legs tbh. her chest still matches up to rev2 surprisingly.
There's a lot of minute details changed to her overall costume as well. I mostly noticed them, cause drawing fanart of her Rev 2 design is kind of annoying thanks to all those details. So the first thing I saw was "oh her tassles are different. Oh the "cat ears" are kind of gone. Oh she's back to a more red palette. Oh-" lol
She wasn't ALWAYS meant to be eye-catching, she was originally a Kenshin Himura knock-off with almost unnoticeable tits. And then Xrd happened and it grew ten-fold.
For strive simplifying her execution is understandable. Old guilty gear where every character plays their own game is still their but now she's more accessible. The tether adds depth along with parry to make it worth losing alpha. Also acr design best.
She is one of my favorite character designs from... pretty much anything. I mean she looks like a samurai Pirate which is an instant win and I love her bad ass attitude and gritty voice when attacking.
When you think about it, those "assets" showing makes some sense in combat. It's a distraction for her opponents, kinda like a toned down version of what Mai Shiranui does.
Bro it's so weird hearing baiken in English i ain't saying her va is bad just i would never thought i would hear her in English also she and her stage looks 👌🏾
I am so glad her kit isn't what it was for this iteration... I know the purists will be upset, but I could never get the hang of her of before since defensive parries and counters are something I have never, ever been good with... which sucked as she was the only GG character I ever tried to or even genuinely wanted to learn and just failed at it. This kit seems to be one where I can actually use her properly and not just be relegated to watching others play her.
I prefer this version of Baiken because she looks fun to play now. Seems like a character I can stick with which is more than I can say for the other dlc characters released so far.
Glad to see some people are excited for the gameplay, I'm just worried that this new gameplay will alienate all of the people that used to love playing her.
@@deddrz2549 definitely will, people who played her played her for the insane difficulty and style, now she literally has four moves when she used to have upwards of around 10
Her English VA should have been the woman who played revy in black lagoon I feel like she would fit her perfectly in this rendition but I’m still so excited to play her!
@@anggakarapreviandana2877 the woman who plays revy her name is Maryke Hendrikse she has a really great gruff voice that I think would actually fit well with baikens image it’s one of my favorite dubs in anime
God I love that System arcs don't give a flying flip and made her busty af in this day and age. I played her alot on one of the ps2 versions one of my fave chars. Glad she's still cool and busty ❤
While I'm sad they removed a lot of stuff (No more command dash, no more choosing a parry attack, her parry attack is a generic throw instead of a sword attack, no more anti air claw) that they kept the spirit of her gameplay with her offense and the new rope mechanic is great. TK Youzansen is gonna be so good now that its a quarter circle instead of a DP now.
Eh, idk at least from what I've seen it doesn't look like the spirit of her old gameplay is there at all. I mean the offense is similar but that was only one small part of her overall gameplay. Many people would say that her amazing defensive options were a bigger part of the spirit of her gameplay, and that's all gone now.
@@deddrz2549 My counter point to that is that the "spirit" of Baiken's gameplay, has significantly changed in every iteration of GG that she's been in. Her +R kit is probably my favorite(and perhaps her most busted). Her Rev 2 kit is an inventive but familiar redesign. And this Strive one also seems pretty inventive and familiar. Baiken is just a very amorphous character archetype.
As an old X2 Baiken main, I was extremely happy to see that they kinda made her more like her EX-variant than her original X2 playstyle; what I mean by that is she's a LOT more offensive-oriented, at least from what few things I can tell from the footage you went over. Either way, I'm excited to play her again. Xrd was good, but I'm hype to see this version of her in Strive :D
Dood, watching your videos is igniting my need to get back into fighting games. I haven’t been into fighting games since the arcade days. Great content man!
Gameplay-wise, she seems more beginner-friendly. The tether works on block or hit and it allows for unique and potentially easier combo opportunities. I hope she still has her dustloops from Xrd, because they were super fun and are going to be way easier with the tether. There could be some pitfalls though. It seems like you aren't going to be able to use tether depending on who you are up against. I think tether against potemkin is giving potemkin a free win. Maybe I'm wrong. I miss how broken her alpha counters were, but I have to accept that they're never going to be like that again. It simply wasn't fair to be able to prevent your opponent from jumping or dashing in a Guilty Gear game. (I also miss her old normals, but that's another conversation) If the counters are never going to be like that again, then I'd rather have this new tether mechanic than the relatively gimped alpha counters of xrd. Visually, I like the direction they've gone with her design in the past two games. Yes, they've taken her bust to an extreme, but they've honestly taken pretty much everyone to an extreme. Just look at original Milia and compare her to current Milia. Even Sol has been... widened (but admittedly his change is less noticeable). With Baiken, her booba were always out there, and barring a couple of really old art pieces, they were always relatively huge. They're just basketballs now and it makes her previous iteration seem flat-chested by comparison. Personally, I think that this was intentional to contrast her character with her physical apperance. Baiken is cool as fuck and busty as fuck and shows that those traits aren't mutually exclusive. Granted, people are gonna act like shut-in coomers when they see enormous breasts no matter what and that's annoying, but what can arcsys do about it? They could make her chest smaller than her Xrd iteration, but there's just something gross about the idea that in order for her to be taken seriously, they would have to lower her cupsize. That's happened to plenty of other characters and its never really worked. I think its human nature to sexualize, so why not lean in to it and say "yeah, she's busty, but that's not what you'll really like about her" As someone who actually plays her, eventually you don't notice her bust. Overall, I'd like to get to a point where she looks the way she looks, and people don't care because she's just so fuckin cool. But that's probably asking too much.
i started playing GG back in the days of midnight carnival. I was a Baiken & Anji main but, I honestly liked the normalized chars and then their EX version which changed their gameplay. i guess ex version was kind like how mk chars have different forms. I'd like to have seen gg keep that mechanic that way baiken wasnt drastically changed like this. it seems they just makin her unga bunga with the tether granted perhaps it can be used against her. it seems very interesting to say the least. its a welcome change in a game thats all about characters evolving.
I'm not huge into guilty gear like some folks, but Baiken didn't have her alpha counter stuff in Xrd, did she? That got replaced with a counter stance you had to input instead I think
Max reaction 10/10 I really like how she looks but I really really wanted to arcsys to bring back Baiken with her hair loose like in the old games Edit: She didn't have her hair loose in game, it was just more simple, her other hair style was in some illustrations of XX and Accent core plus mission
I prefer her hair in both Xrd and Strive. The previous versions screams of "Ruronin Kenshin". Her new one gives her a unique identity and a foxy look (ninetails), which she really is.
Pretty disappointed that her guard cancel gimmick is entirely gone and has been replaced with a simple parry. She was the only true defensive character GG had before which was kind of her trademark and now that's gone.
Same with Jack-O, she was very unique in xrd (i like RTS) but in strive she play like a mix of venom and zato. I actually prefer azami over this new move they added.
@@goby1764 Was it to be expected? Kinda. Though I think "gutted" may be the wrong term. She might work well in Strive and be super good. But the issue with Strive is the removal of options in general. Even though it should've been obvious, I'm still disappointed and am fearing the day Jam arrives.
Mortal Kombat: "we are changing the appearance of our female characters to be more realistic" Guilty Gear: "we know what you want, check out these fat mommy milkers, pre orders available now"
I don't okay MK so I'm not really the target demo, but the new designs in MK10/11 are gorgeous. Baiken in Xrd and Strive looks like something from DeviantArt and makes me like the game less. It's not just the obvious, but seeing her in motion makes her overall design, just look... stupid imho (what's up with her backwards walk?). I do like the tether, though.
omg i love it that grappling hook i was wtf that ctazy you attached to them that reminds of wrestling match texas rope or whichever they would call it that vibe i am getting that vibe also that design wow that um very big lol.
Baiken really does look amazing in the Strive art style. I’m so excited to play as her. I hope to see some awesome matches from you Max as you use her!
Not only does her character art showcase her 2 extra heads extremely well, we can also see her sword holding up her skirt showing she's double cheeked the hell up, and that's just the front view... >_>
*She looks perfect, SO GLAD they kept her original outfit and didn't nerve her big bust size and I really love how she got a Fireworks Gun instead of that stupid counter.* Also really love how they got best girls in Season 1.
Baiken always looked like overaggresive character, but still she had many defencive gimmicks. Hope ArcSys really trying to make her more "80% aggresive - 20% passive" type of character, that will fit in her "angry bratty samurai" design - she still has counter for her "samurai" part and more strive to be attached to opponent for her "angry" characteristic. Also her game plan feels more "fitting" to her story and design - for me Baiken was always "kill-or-be-killed" type of character (all this guns and dirty tricks under her sleeve... and feet - TATAMI GAESHI) more than "I will wait for opportunity/parry"
11:15 "I kinda wish they'd taken a different approach to her design...they went a little bit more in a certain direction". That direction would be the Z axis. :)
Love it Love it Love it......thank you ARC System for enhancing the character design, instead of cowering to the new western standard for beautiful female characters
After listening to you discuss her a little I’m much more at ease. I was worried at first cuz she’s missing her 3 type dash and such. I’m excited to finally get back into Strive and lab her
Making the character simple is fine. Giving her more depth beneath the surface level gameplay is what matters most. Of all characters in Guilty Gear that needed a potential rework, it was Baiken.
I always assumed the intent behind her design was due to her having only one arm, so it was harder for her to be hyper offensive. It made sense why she was always built like a defensive counter character.
@@maverickrx8 but on the other hand, she is (or at least was) a bit of an murder gremlin, especially when it comes to Gears. hell, if i remember right, her (fortunately non-canon) ending in the original GG is her finally snapping and going full bloodlust on everyone.
Yoooo, this is a game changer, for her. She was counter heavy in previous games, this one she seems more so offensive and keeping up the pressure. I'm glad they kept some of her GGXrd Rev 2 look in her design. She's so bada**.
I'm pretty excited to give her a shot. I've mostly been playing Ky, but branching into the other characters has been kinda tough because I just don't really connect well with some of those other characters. Baiken is looking really cool though, so I'll be labbing her quite a bit on release.
