What makes Ed’s old costume better in here than in sf5 is the fact that he is now wearing a trench coat with it, which makes it better than just wearing the sleeveless costume.
His hat always bothered me in 5 with the way it was angled and how it went down with his hair. Now it sits straight and centered and looks like an actual military hat this time.
I love how max paused on Ryu and pointed out the target combo change when everyone was probably expecting him to talk about being able to regular hadoken when he has a denjin charge
I thought I was taking crazy pills! So that IS new, right? I hadn't just somehow completely missed Ryu being able to do that since launch or something?
@@thant0s yup, only heavy fireball and heavy hashogeki use the denjin charge. The rest work like normal. Which means you don't have to stop using fireballs if you want to land a fat denjin hasho combo.
Everyone’s been talking about that change since we knew about it from the Japan play tests, but I think the TC change went unnoticed, so that’s probably why he focused on it.
@@baconbuster9651 I think he straight missed it. But at least he caught one of them, he was too busy talking about boxing to notice any of Aki's changes.
I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, but the trench coat on Ed's new costume is heavily inspired by Bison's coat from his SFV battle costume. It was a dope jacket for Bison, and it looks dope on Ed too. I also think Ed's skinnier proportions make his old design look better.
As a Rashid main I concur. All the other ones look goofy as hell to me. That's why when I see somebody in a tournament rocking some weird colors it's hard for me to watch lol
@@silenttakuza It's a Oni mask, which is basically a japanese folklore demon. They're often depicted with horns. Pretty common to see them in various media. This particular case it's just one of the horns is broken off, but they've also been shown to have just a single horn by itself as well.
13:43 the reason that Ed isn’t the same type of boxer as Dudley and Balrog is because he’s a different type of boxer. Balrog is more of an infighter, Dudley is more of a counter hit kind of boxer. Ed is an out fighter, he uses his flicker jabs and quick footwork to control space and take advantage of an opening for the kill. Ed is a boxer and gladly like one we haven’t had in SF before
@@KaminariHouse oh I'm not hating, I actually think Rashid being a streamer is super hilarious. But him having a corny ass 90s jock costume is so fuckin funny. This design team deserves the biggest raise
“Why does Ed look cool?” Simple: They removed the dumb half-cape he had and put him in a coat to make him look like a boss. Definitely an improvement over the SFV default.
Now I know everyone is saying the Ed’s third outfit is similar to the SFV Outfit but there are a few changes to Ed’s Uniform besides the trench coat and white gloves. Ed is wearing a different commander blouse, he is wearing a different white tie, his white belt has no icon on the buckle indicating that his white belt is different, and he is wearing a different Overseas Hat. And his look is based off of Ed’s Commander outfit seen in 100 bond. All the outfits looks good have only 710 coins to get Ed’s outfit and Akuma personally.
'how does just a trench coat make him look dope??' max... Trenchcoats are DOPE. Matrix came out and every millennial teen downloaded it to their personalities for a reason.
The oni mask and the beads are the part that makes sense. The towl hanging out of a fundoshi on his nude ass body is where it starts to feel weird for Akuma, the unmatched fist. Man looks like he's about to step into a sauna and doesn't want anyone to know he enjoys luxuries, so he wears an oni mask.
The drive reversal change was sorely needed it absolutely sucked playing a character without a reliable get off me tool. The Lily clip is potentially 3 separate buffs her frame data must have got a lot better for that combo to work. Her stand light kick could do with a bit more range still.
Sweet, hopefully we can get Ed's Kujo color scheme from SF5, too James Chen has an hour long breakdown of all the changes shown in the trailer, with current gameplay comparisons, if anyone wants a good deep dive.
Coming from the smash community, its so wild to imagine the dev's making serious efforts to balance the game and also to communicate those changes to the community. Like I'm sure there's plenty to complain about with devs in other fighting games but goddam if Nintendo couldn't care less
Yeah, unfortunately at the heart of it the problem was always going to be that Nintendo never wanted Smash to be a serious, competitive game, and was never going to support it to that degree regardless of what the community wanted. Most, if not all, 2D fighting games at this point are made with a tournament scene in mind. The communities may not always agree with how they handle it, but it's at least always a concern. It's a shame cause Smash is a really strong series for that kind of play, but yeah, Nintendo couldn't care less.
It's funny you mentioned the more traditional boxers when compared to Ed longer range when his boxing stance(irl) is for more longer ranged and swifter fighters.
My Costume Rank 1. Aki - very stylish 2. Ed - looks more like a General, the a Boy Scout 3. Akuma - not bad, but not great either 4. Rashid - his style is for a particular group but I not one of them
@@darknesswave100 I know about oni masks. It’s just that Akuma is already like the human embodiment of an oni. He’s already halfway there in terms of looks, so it’s a bit redundant to have him wear the mask, lol.
Aki looks like Jango from One Piece, early One Piece from the 90's back when it was not even made for current TV sizes, love it. Rashid's is bland colour choice is not great and looks generic. Surprised at how cool Ed looks because I HATED the costume under that but now he looks like the next Bison. Akuma is great I actually love it because it's more to the realistic style than leaning to a cartoon style.
As someone who actually preferred Street fighter 5 Ed's look(at least compared to the default, the alt with gym shorts is dope), I'm happy to see the outfit, can't wait to see it in white and red
The wall splat for Guiles Sonic Cross was always there, it was just useless in Mid Screen, now he Combo off it in Mid Screen instead of just in the corner
Hey Max, it's possible to go frame by frame on yt player with the lesser/greater than keys on the keyboard. Hope this elevates your already great production, and content.
Is akuma out now or is that on the 22nd? Also been having fun with street fighter 6 which is my first street fighter and I'm having a lot of fun with it
I think for chun-li too is that you’re able to launch when the opponent is standing now? I could be wrong but the mid screen launcher only worked on crouching opponents.
@@mappybc6097 idk what to tell you dude. He uses very common out boxer stances like hitman every time he does a flicker jab or his charged purple....psycho power....rope...lasso thing.
@@thepuppetmaster9284 Nah. Balrog is not capable of putting himself on Ed shoes. He is a thug that only picked up Ed to use him. Once he found out he had his own goals he tried to clobber him into submission and bailed out when he found out Ed had surpassed him.
It would be cool they’re only calling these “outfits” for the moment, and that maybe once theres more post launch content they’ll give us the option to mix and match the different outfit parts.
You missed the biggest buff on Ryu. He fireballed after denjin charge but didn’t release the charge. To release the charge you have to do heavy fireball now.
In my opinion, a lot of that video shows of quality of life changes across the board. Basically every single character is getting more freedom to do different combos and have better line options they can go with, along with the drive reversal change to allow a better defensive option. The top teir characters will get some decent nerfs to compensate I'm sure, but making every character across the better feel and play better to me is such a massive move to really say "season 1 was more of a test, the real game starts here"
