NICE VIDEO MAX THAT HOBBY SHOP LOOK LIKE HUB HOBBY SHOP WHEN IT WAS IN NEW ORLEANS BEFORE KATRINA IN 05. BE SAFE AND GOD BLESS YOU AND ALL GLUE TROOPERS EVERYWHERE.
I loved the range of FS colours that Testors/Modelmasters had. You could ,arch just about anything with them and they provided decent coverage and great surface durability.
Thanks for the update from NYC! Great tour of a grand hobby shop. Wish we had one like that here where I live. Yes, there is never enough room for models. 😭. Stay safe Max, Happy Landings always and as always God bless you and yours and thanks again for everything you do! Model On Sir!!
Nice old fashioned hobby shop. I use acrylic so I am no help there. Also use Tamiya enamel panel lines. Surprised that Tamiya enamel is not in the US. We can get their acrylic, enamel, and lacquer in Canada as well as all the Tamiya spray paints. Up here Testors MM and the regular Testors are both a goner. Safe travels Max.
Hi Max, I was just up in Manhattan back on June 22, 2022 with my daughter. We went to the Harry Potter museum on 22nd between %th Ave and Broadway, then road the Staten Island Ferry both ways (my first time doing that), then went up to Grand Central Terminal (my first time there, and I'm a train buff), and finally dinner in Times Square at Olive Garden where we met and had dinner with two friends and former co-workers. I used to work right off of Times Square at 216 W.44th at the now long closed Gulliver's Gate (a new group bought all the stuff and the rights, and are now attempting to reopen it in Staten Island near the ferry terminal). It's nice to see you had a nice visit to the Red Caboose. I never patronised his store as I did most of my shopping out on Long Island where I lived. Enjoy the rest of your visit to the Big Apple.
I hope Testors or other does bring back their Model Master enamels. They made specialty colors, like the specific shades for WWII British and German aircraft. Mr. Hobby Aqueous acrylic paints are good, I order some from Amazon. Better coverage brushed than Vallejo.
I got that "gift set" awhile back just for the repop of the old Revell kit of the Higgins PT boat. Had it as a kid, and been wanting it again. So many Elco 80' kits out, but no Higgins! The H25 helicopter wad my third. Lucky I still had the decals from the prior ones, so I could do the Marine version. The M-4 Sherman gave me fits with the tracks! Each side has three or four staples fixing the breaks. 🙄
@@lancerevell5979 Well, Revell makes decent kits overall. I rather built old Revell kits instead of old Airfix and FROG kits. ;) Tank tracks come in a wide selection of possibilities, from the "Easy" through "Cumbersome" to the "Excruciating Hard" to put on. >
Except for Revell of Germany, I don't know of anyone else doing enamel paints that might be available in the states. Of the acrylics, Mission Models seems to be trying to fill the FS hole Testors left. Revell Acrylics I also like for their coverage. Tamiya's lacquers are also a good hole filler given they now do bottled lacquers of some shades that were only available in spray can form before.
I saw 2 Renwal Teracruzers.. I have never seen one in the wild before.. Had to get one on Ebay.. But, yeah... This place would work on my wallet like a sponge on water.. My credit cards would get friction burns. Mr Hobby makes a great acrylic, by the way. Aqueous Acrylic is the trade name. I know about the shelf space conundrum.. When you finally get exactly enough shelf for your models, you find 3 more that you forgot you bought a year before, thus making a trip to a hardware store for more shelves, at which time, you get a box of unexpected pre-orders, then a good meaning friend gives you a bunch, necessitating either having to get more shelving, or adding a room to the house, since there is no more room to put shelving.
YES , that’s a great HOBBY SHOP, CHRIS from OHIO, is out of DRYDOCK ( Hospital ) getting refitted 😅🤣😂 I would love to be part of the LIVE STREAM, MAXSMODELS and the GLUE TROOPERS ROCK …. CHRIS from OHIO
Cool tour of the big Apple. Nicely stocked model shop.....with Manhattan prices. Don't use enamel paints. Bad odor and long dry time. Stock Vallejo acrylics. Safe journey home, Max. Bill
Rustoleum owns Testors products. Tamiya is shipped via Canada stores, Sun Hobby has good prices & shipping. Mr Hobby is sold in the states, with decent acrylics, like Tamiya, more varieties & colors. Funny - I just realized a lot of my stock is a growing number of Mr. Hobby products.
I like Mr. Hobby acrylics ("Aqueous") but got one color in what has to be lacquer. My acrylic and enamel thinners won't touch it. Any time I use it, I sacrifice a brush. Need to try a lacquer thinner.
@@lancerevell5979 I concur. I broke down & purchased Mr Hobby leveling thinner. Aqueous - how do figure that's acrylic, they have another paint - Acrysion - nasty stuff too.
To me it seems none of the enamels are as good as they used to be probably because of the environmental regs I now mostly use Tamiya but testers and MM will do a decent job if you use a good primer under it to give it something to bite to. I really miss the old Pactra paints they seemed to do a better job than anything else. Oh well be careful in NYC and safe travels and happy landings
That is exactly my issue. Where would I display it once it's built. I have a B-25, 1/350 Klingon ship, 2 Enterprises, a carrier Enterprise, A Flying Sub, Proteus, Jupiter 2,.Bismarck & Prinz Eugen in stash & nowhere to put them when built. Most with light kits & aftermarket add ons. At 66 I should just get rid of them & just enjoy the builds I have.
i know i will order enamels from mcw out of ohio when i start running out of my model masters.a lot of car builders are starting to go to them and say that they are great paints.i don't know but it will be worth a check out for me when i run low.also from what i understand off there web site,if you have a color that needs to be made they might be able to make.i think it might be worth it.
