Interesting thought, but gearing is not the limit with these speed cars. The amount of torque it would take for that spur and pinion switch would be extremely high. Even when I run 29/36 3800kv it gets very hot after just 2 runs. The limit is just physics, you can only generate so much mechanical power with a certain battery setup. Everything is a factor. Not to mention the amount of wind resistance at 200mph is 4 TIMES the amount at 100, which is just insane. Tricky tricky! If I had the resource I would put this sort of stuff to the test, but I really don't want to break more than I have. One thing that I will attempt this weekend is exposing my esc to the wind, so at 90mph, the esc is being cooled drastically better since the very fast air removes the heat.

I just got my rusty this Christmas it's a xl5 just getting into the hobby, planning on upgrading steering to all aluminum,lipo, anaconda or badland tires,n then brushless, plan on running on street, yard and baseball diamonds, and mulch, but what would u suggest in gearing for hi speed and quick out the whole shot without burning anything up yet, nothing crazy yet just wanna have some fun

Should I go bigger with fast gear they sent me from factory or put the pinion gear to I got to go faster with the spur gear came on it would I be happier till...

So I'd be better off changing the hi speed gearing that it came with and get a good lipo and start from there ???

Theory is great and so is removing gravity to fall faster...the setup is way to hot for both esc and motor...I know there nothing like you video out there because of what would happen, it was tested a long time ago..until you or anyone for that matter comes up with a video proving it to the world ...there is to much to aero dynamics and weight etc to achieve it ...so far it's all power supply hence VOLTS ⚡...but still I found your very informative.

With the xl5 would to push it to the limit but am not a gear guy that's what I also should have said to,I should have got the vxl, but I would like to set up for drag racing and off-road, but still have fun in both worlds,

Tho ur weights in front of the car looks like a triangle wall, not good for aerodynamics, what would happen if u would spread them out from shocks back be hind shocks still would weigh the same, its kinda like putting a V8 in a V6 or i4 it's gonna keep the front down but depends on how much torque it has gonna be see the stars if u run at night or sun if ur running in day

I agree in theory with everythig you said. But even in 2021, exceeding 180 mph in an rc car is extraordinaily hard (and very rare). Hence, with the utmost respect, have you tested your theory? Can you show me your videos where you have exceeded 180 mph?

very informative video.. im having a hsp xstr buggy n trying the theory in your video. Managed to get a 27T spur to fit in however still did not manage to get a bigger pinion. trying my luck on 26Tpinion/27Tspur and obviously no torque at all and results with super hot motor n esc. Any idea where i could get a more teeth Module 1 pinion? Hope to hear from you soon.

I've got a 2wd slash I'm setting up for drag. I'm running a velineon 3 system for now,BSR 45mm wheels..2.5 inches tall. What gearing could I go with to make this thing fast in 132 feet?

I have a stampede 4x4 with a castle mamba max pro sct 2200kv but it claims to be able to get around 90,000 RPM, how fast do you think I could get it to go on a good 1/1 gear ratio running a high output 3s battery?

Kevy, very good info and I like your setup. I would recommend removing your front bumper and taking it to a local machine shop to have them fabricate a few solid steel replicas of the bumper, each replica being a different thickness. You will need to upgrade to grade 8 fasteners to reattach the bumper. You will end up with more weight and increased aerodynamics compared to the block weights that you currently have zip tied to the bumper. That's an aerodynamic nightmare.
