This is an expert analysis that we need
@jamestruth8235

Expert analysis yes but why is it the microscopes only come out for a Hamilton error? Verstappen and Bottas have done several howlers over the last 3 races that have cost them places and wins but only a Lewis error gets this over the top microscopic focus. Its starting to look like they're just trying to throw mud at Lewis which is really sad to see Jolyon getting involved in because he's always been a fair and impartial contributor in the past. Drop the double standards and analyse the front runners equally.

@sp82
@sp82 3 года назад
Key point being missed here on the restart. Jolyon criticizes Lewis for looking in his mirror down the straight but that wasn't the issue. Lewis said he was kicking himself for choosing to move to the right. On the straight you can see on the speed trace that Lewis pretty much plateaus as soon as he moves right, whereas Max keeps picking up speed from Valtteri's tow. Had he stayed in the tow, the overtake would have been much harder. But the overall point being missed for me is that during that race you can very, very clearly see Lewis covering the inside pretty much all the time. He is done being pushed wide by Max!
@suckieduckie
@suckieduckie 3 года назад
It really isn't just Lewis mate. The inside is king in racing simply because you can force others wide. Lewis has done it to Rosberg plenty of times.
@sp82
@sp82 3 года назад
@@suckieduckie Actually in this case Lewis might have been better off staying on the outside following Valtteri, which was the main thing I wanted to point out. And overall I think we can see that Lewis pretty much never left the inside uncovered, and when he overtook Max, quite aggressively, he made a very clear point to stick his elbows out. The fight is on!

Disagree with him when he says there is no need to look behind you when behind the safety car. You may as much want to defend against the car behind as you want to overtake the one in front. Knowing where the attacker is behind is also important in term of placement to defend in case of a bad restart (and this can happen even if you're only looking forward). Also, it was Max behind, not any random guy, so Lewis knows he will be on threat from him, that's why he's looking at what Max is doing. I even think that Lewis is feeling "I don't care much about Bottas I'll overtake him easily later, but if Max passes me it might not be that easy". In the end he still managed to pass both so, get in there champ !

I think all this analysing of how Lewis drives, is to give hints on how he thinks, reacts. Unlike some drivers Magnusson comes to mind, Lewis is adaptable in his style and races according to each situation. Some drivers can't do that and are destined to make the same mistakes over and over, they never seem to learn.
@jamestruth8235

Why on Earth is it that any Hamilton mistake gets loads of in-depth coverage and analysis whilst the other drivers who are also making mistakes get very little analysis. This pattern has been going on for a while now from all sections of the media and its starting to get annoying. If you're going to get the microscopes out for every Hamilton error, do the same WITH EQUAL TIME ALLOCATION for the other drivers.

@Ryan Lane Hamilton literally drove into the wall in imola lol. Hamilton's mistakes this season so far have been more severe than verstappen's, but through luck they havent influenced the standings. Also I think the track limits are debatable whether theyre mistakes, or just the result of looking for the limits. Remember everyone praised norris when his q3 time got deleted in imola for track limits.
@barbonson_richards
@barbonson_richards 3 года назад
@Ryan Lane Yet still, taking luck out of the equation then verstappen would have a big lead in the championship. Verstappens errors are all minor and the result of pushing too hard. Hamilton in imola should have been 0 point if it werent for the lucky red flag, that was a huge error by hamilton. RB clearly wasnt faster in qualifying in portugal and imola, and even if it was then it was because of a miracle lap by verstappen. In bahrein the tires were about equal on performance by the time verstappen caught up to hamilton, watch the palmer analysis on that.
@titntin5178
@titntin5178 3 года назад
Its prehaps because Lewis so rarely makes mistakes that they are more notable when they do happen. Its also true that he's often leading or close to leading the championship, so its much more likely that such mistakes will have an impact , and not surprising that such things will be analysed. Its true that a mid field driver might not get subjected to as much scrutiny, but thats exactly as it should be, and i dont see this as any evidence of scrutiny another driver wouldnt get if they were in Hamiltons shoes. If you wanna be the best, you realise every move you make will be analysed. Hamilton is an excellent driver and can withstand and nodoubt expects the scrutiny.

Running wide to "confirm" your overtake when you're on the inside is not a "Verstappen move"... it is THE move and everybody does it, as they should. The response to that by the overtaken driver should be to back off and not go off-track. It's only because we get these wide tarmac area's outside the track that drivers try to stay there and hope the overtaking driver is generous to leave them space. But with classic tracks there is grass or a wall there so you HAVE to back off.

so Palmer tells us that in the 1st corner Verstappen did not cross the tracklimits cause he stayed with frontright on the curbs , but Lewis did cross as you can see at 8.55 ;)

these drivers seem to pretty fast and clever, they should consider racing gokarts or even formula cars

I think you do need to check where your mirror less you give a double tow... being a former F1 driver he should know that... how is the overtake called "Max Verstappen move" when all these years I've been watching F1 that's how most people are squeezed?

Max knew he could hit the throttle based on where the next lap started, he would not pass Lewis before the finishline anyway if Lewis predictably would fire away shortly after him. So, Max knew he didnt have to look at Lewis and Bottas for timing his throttle. Max lost his position again simply because the lack of front grip he had all weekend. Max could’ve been more cautious and make no “mistake” but that would’ve cost him for sure anyway, so he chose to fight. I also wish you looked at his pitstop entry, that was a massive decisive moment. Cheers.

I think it has to do with Max keeping focus on Bottas at the restart and not on Hamilton. As soon as Bottas stopped weaving he floored it and used the small gap between him and Hamilton to gain that tiny bit more acceleration.

Anyone know what's in the background of the studio to the right of the F1TV logo. Looks like an Acorn Risc OS computer's desktop, maybe Task Manager from the 90's. Especially at 7 min 25

I can see the head tilt pretty clearly....2:23 just as Bottas gets away. And then he checks the mirrors again right after.

I've never liked the rule that you can cut someone off on a corner exit. If you have to leave space for the car on entry why not on exit if they have a wheel alongside? It just seems to cut potential battles short, if I remember right last year we had a couple of drivers go wheel to wheel for multiple corners becuase they left a space on entry and exit. =/
