I opted for the cheaper one! Works just fine especially if you are trying to get in a routine. Once I stay with this routine at least 4 months straight then maybe it will be worth spending more but this is perfect!
I have the XL 2000 which was about $350. I actually bought another one for my cottage workout room that’s how much I love it. The XL is super steady and has pistons that can be adjusted to make it easier or harder. Also, the pedals are huge and very supportive. The XL can be used for 30 minutes and isn’t uncomfortable at all. The price I paid for mine was well worth it. The downside for you would be it doesn’t fold up, but for me that’s not an issue.
The newer XL2000 does, in fact, fold up. Go to their website if you want accurate details. Not her fault, but apparently they have made changes to the product.
Hi Mike. My girlfriend and I, had one of these for over 5 years. We got it as an alternative to going to the gym for cardio. But over the years and with COVID, it became my to go machine for a 30 min workout three times a week. We use the videos on line to challenge us. It has been a great basic machine. I did have issues with the pedals comfort but I wear shoes that give me that cushion. The residue from the wheels will happen and you'll have to replace them ( a pretty simple task). I have been ordering them directly from the company at no charge after getting a $30.00 "membership". Using Silicone spray with a paper towel before or after working out helps reduce the wear and tear. We have moved several times during the last 4 years and it was easy transporting it after I removed the handle bars and wrapping the whole thing. I will purchase the XL eventually , but I'm glad we started with this model, to find out if it would work. I'm 65 and I have no issues with my knees aching. Strange enought, I had shoulder joint problems and using it seems to help me. Thanks for the review.
Thank you for your video & your info on this machine..I bought the maxi XL from the company & it made horrible scratching noises .We called their very rude customer service rep several times & they told us to send them a video of the noise & we did so many times & they basically told us to pull the machine apart ourselves & fix it just after a few weeks of buying it..I then realized that they had many complaints of the same issues online..They also refused to send us a new one & rudely laughed at us on the phone as we didn't know how to fix it..We bought the machine as a family member just lost both her parents & we thought this would get her back on her feet..So people pls be careful of what you buy.. Look for any complaints about the company first & research hard before buying..We were treated very badly by them..Pls don't make this happen to you.
You would think after spending that much money for the xl it wou.dnt make the same noise as the classic does. I'm just glad I found mine on Facebook market place for $25' and didn't spend 150+, highly disappointed.
Hello Mike, I own one of these and agree it's a great machine although I don't use it as much as I should. But I have a solution to one of your cons about the moving handgrips being too close together. I found the stationary grips to be absolutely useless and knee bangers. So I removed them and added them on to the moving grips. If you're mechanical and have a power drill, you just need to slide the rubber grips off the moving grips and drill a small hole in them so that the button locks on the stationary grips will secure themselves into place. They will slide easily into the moving grips. I think it may be a 3/8 drill bit but eyeball it to doublecheck. You just slide the foam grip back on to the sliding grips, then slide the stationary grip right inside them. It adds alot more bar to hold onto for a more comfortable hand and arm position. It definitely makes using this machine have a less awkward feel. Hope this helps and feel free to share this idea with your subscribers.
I got the XL back in December to keep up my aerobic workouts throughout the winter. Based on my Apple Watch workout tracker, calories, heart rate, etc. is very comparable to a run of the same duration. I’ve found it to be very effective! Love your vids, by the way; extremely helpful!
Well, it has hydraulic pistons for optional resistance (12 levels), but no flywheel or any mechanical or electronic assistance…it’s all human powered. 😀 But once I got used to the movement, I can really sprint.
I picked up the XL a month or 2 back. We use it for our warmup before hitting the total gym. I think your review of the standard model is spot on! We bought the XL mainly due to the foot pads and a few other features.
Body Solid is a great company for workout equipment. I recently purchased a climber and it's very sturdy. The price was way less than the Maxi Climber.
You have to change the Rollers. Depending on how long and much you use it. I use mine for 5-6 days a week 30 min I have to change the rollers twice a year. I’ve had my Maxi climber one for ten years and I just bought the XL last summer and I’ll tell you the original one is good
Hey! Great review.... these are actually cheaper on the official website than Amazon though! Wish I had run across your review sooner! I have the XL & they all kick your butt!!! 😂
Thanks for the review! I watched a few videos on this before I decided to purchase. I just got it the other day. My little digital monitor doesn't work either. Hopefully it's just the battery. So far it is a good workout, compact style for easy storage and a good price. If it holds up for a few years would be great.
Hi, I'm new to your channel and to climbers. I really like your non-sense approach. I also appreciate that you have invested your own money and it seems like you don;t ask these companies to send their items for your review. Although, not gonna lie, with your style of review, I am sure they would be happy to have you review. Definitely looking into this lower end/entry level climber.
Awesome review! Right on pretty much everything. I was agreeing to it all. 😊 Yes the most time I will be on it is 30 max. I feel like I’m getting a great workout. Thanks!
I like it, but the plastic rollers are cheap and wear down after a few months. I'm 185, the rollers wore from doing fast and intense workouts. I had to contact the manufacturer and did receive replacements as part of the warranty. I will lubricate it with silicon spray. I mean it's functional, nothing fancy. It's a good affordable machine. I've used some ankle and wrist weights for some resistance. Also I have velcro straps to lock in my feet. I bought mine new from Ebay, the warranty did cover the parts.
@@hybridresistance Sweet! Also I think you would enjoy the XL model much better versus the one in the Video. The XL model is expensive..worth it though
Well, the Maxi Climber is great for a short while. I was putting in about 3 hours a week on mine. The results and workout were great, but the cheap plastic rollers began to destroy themselves eventually.
Bummer, it sounds like at your intensity and usage, you may want to consider the original cardio climber - versaclimber. Lifetime warranty and built like a tank. It really comes down to ROI.
@@1versaclimber1 Sure I’d love to, if not for the fact that I’m a cop with a family, who can’t afford the exorbitant price tag on a Versa Climber. Do you guys provide first responder discounts? Lol
The XL is much better. I have it, used the base model elsewhere. I really like the XL for the shortest duration possible hr workout. For anything longer duration my C2 is the best.
Off-the-wall question: The green shorts at about 18 minutes and 45 seconds. Who makes those? Lol. Also, thank you for making videos about stuff that I normally would not even entertain, but you talking about them makes me consider adding them to my gym.
I bought some in the past that I still have in my garage. But I recently went out out and purchased 4 more big ones and once they were all loaded up in my car, I returned them. The odor was so thick and toxic smelling I knew I couldn't handle it in my basement. I heard it goes away if you leave it outside for 2 weeks, but I just didn't feel like doing that. I got a big mat on amazon that I probably will talk about on the channel and let you guys know how that goes.
I've had this since I was 14 (im 20 now) and it still works fine, the handles are degrading now and I took off the front frame when I was younger so yeah its completely pointless if you even have a phone
Does this thing feel like you are actually climbing a ladder? Or is it more like just going through the motions? Does it give the same satisfaction as a good run?
Interesting product and good review. Since you were saying it felt good for a pretty short workout, it sounded to me like its best use would be as a warmup machine. I saw that another commenter used it in just that way. Your suggestion to use it to complement a high intensity workout sounds like another good use. That problem with the bottom roller running against the machine is troubling. If you contact the company, please let us know how they respond. Such responses influence my purchase decisions.
I think it's better to use it after you're warmed up a bit as you're in a pretty fixed position that for some people might feel better after you're warmed up.I'll definitely keep you posted on what I hear back. Thank you for watching
Looks like the best workout equipment yet to hang your clothes or whatever. What was your heart rate? Are you able to keep it in zone 4? One is up for $30 near me now.
If someone recently holds my resistance bands to be honest. It’s definitely hard, you can get your heart rate up, but in my opinion it’s hard to sustain for a long period of time comfortably.
I just bought one of these. In your opinion and experience, is it better to have the adjustments have the longest reach i can physically do or does it matter? For cardio and muscle building. 💪 i want to get the most out of this machine and the harder the better
Are you able to keep your knees inline with your feet? It looked a bit like as you rise up the frame widens and you point your knees out slightly. I'm shorter than you and need to keep my knees inline when exercising like this to prevent the strain you said some other people had mentioned. I'm thinking of buying, but no point if it's going to force my knees out.
I agree 5to 15 min work outs however the company seems to be willing to send a replacement it's good for the money I paid 150 save your money from a gym membership
I admit to not making it all the way through this video, but that's because I am looking for some very specific information that I am not finding here. I see there is a height adjustment possible, but the instruction manual says nothing more than to push a button. Not which button for what height. And, it says nothing about if adjusting the height will help with the foot pedal situation. Because, whenever one of us steps on it, the other pedal goes up so far that our knee ends up being way above the handle we are to be holding onto while mounting. There must be a way to fix that!
I'm thinking of buying a used one , sometimes on the FB marketplace you can find them for $50 . I have a small 2 bedroom trailer , my bedroom has a bench and dumbbells squeezed in there ,from COVID deal, so my space is limited . Treadmill takes up to much room , So this looks like it would work as not to take up to much space . I want to lose some weight , I'm a guy that doesn't hardly sweat except my mid back area , any how you say your not a sweater either and it's helping you sweat . So may help me quicker to lose weight . It's colder out now Dec almost New years 2024 , to cold to take walks . I think this would work for me well . Thank you for the review 👍 HAPPY NEW YEAR 2024 in next couple days 🎉
My model like that did not last a year, I take it since you have not posted a comment that it's either working still really well, or you have stopped using it.
As I was mentioning in this review, I really only use it as an interval tool to mix things up a bit during workouts versus a long duration cardio machine. So I do use it, but when I do, it's only for about 5-10 min max per workout.
I found one of these on the side of the road and wanted to know what the numbers on the small screen mean as you toggle through. Unfortunately, I didn't find that info in this video.
Hey Mike, what brand shorts are those (the grey ones). I have been looking for some with a draw string like that. I have a slim frame and im so sick and tired of wearing belts with shorts.
hate the plastic rollers. i stopped using for 2 yrs because of the shavings. my first was under warranty and i replaced the machine but since then i have been limited. may sell it
Great video on Maxiclimber. I like mine too (I have the basic one) but it is “shedding” black shavings on the floor from the rubber rollers. It is happening on the left foot pad. You mentioned this in the video. Let us know if you’ve figured out how to adjust to stop this from happening. I’ve had mine for 4 months. Thank you.
I have had mine for a couple months and I had to stop using it because of the grinding and the noise coming from it. Wish I could afford something better.
How strange is this that i have same problem on the left foot too. Just earlier today unscrew the left foot and 2 of the rollers were split. Ive moved around with the unbroken roller and put them back on.this made abit better where it was grinding due to split rollers. Also parted the 2 long metals where it was grinding.lets see how long it will last.its very bad design.i saw cable ones instead of chain on the internet.might get that if this wont work after all the things ive done.
Hello, thanks for doing this review. I bought the XL. Just wondering if it feels a bit “sticky” at different levels when going up and down and if that is normal or not. It looks like it’s very easy to move your handlebars up and down- I have to pull it hard to get it to even move. Not sure if I did something wrong.
I honestly don't remember that too much. The handles shouldn't be too hard to move once you push the button all the way in, so I'm not sure about that either. But big thing I don't have the XL either so it's probably a different build
@@hybridresistance Thanks so much for replying. I’m not sure what button you’re referring to. I took the resistance cylinders off of mine so that the movement should glide the same as your machine, but it doesn’t. Going to call them; here’s hoping they have good support. Thanks again.
I know basically 0 about fitness. I got weight loss surgery but I want to be stronger and have stamina too. I wasn't sure if this was just a cardio type thing or if it really worked your muscles.
I'd say there are better options given your situation. On my channel I always recommend a Total Gym for pretty much everyone. It's all I use for resistance training and definitely will build muscle endurance. I'd suggest checking out my channel to see if you're interested. If you're looking for pure cardio it would boil down to your preference, but I'm a big fan of these amzn.to/32Vp3OV
If someone is having knee pain on that machine, what would you do to strengthen the knee joint? I went to a doctor once and told him about my knee pain and he thought I should stay away from squats and focus on extensions, but he qualified that with "I don't know, I don't work out, I'm just going by the anatomy"
I'd recommend asking a rehabilitation specialist that way they can give personalize medical advice. But my own opinions: it somewhat depends on the type, nature, and history of the knee pain / discomfort on the machine. But it could be a number of factors. If it's more just discomfort for a brief period of time on the machine, then simply warming up, changing your positions, or doing intervals to break time would help. You certainly can make the integrity of the joint stronger by directly stressing the area, but also just strengthening the muscles around the joint through traditional leg exercises can be good. But sometimes just because you're working the muscles around the joint doesn't necessarily mean the knee is actually stronger. I actually could say a lot more but there's just a lot of nuance that it makes it hard to directly answer that question. Also just balancing out the stress you're placing on the lower body is something always to be considered. Running might be good for knees, but too much and too often could actually cause/create knee pain. Personally, I'd just start slow, don't overdue it, avoid pain, and simply listen to my body.
nope if you are short that thing in the middle makes you "spread " your legs unless you want to hit your knees over hard plastic and fell of with that thing falling on you so NO!!!! if you 5 feet or under it is not okay
Isn't the movement different from the Versablimber? I mean, the movement of arms and legs, the Versaclimber is opposite directions, the Maxiclimeber is same direction.
Correct. The climb pattern here is "standard" pattern like climbing a ladder. VersaClimber offers "contra-lateral" or "cross crawl" which replicates humans natural movement pattern GAIT (walking, crawling, running) as babies we learn this at 8 months old.
@@hybridresistance Thanks. Yes the small footprint is a big reason I'm considering it. Think I'll buy used and see how it goes. Great review btw. Thanks.
I'd have to go back and find it. I got them done from someone online. Versaclimber for sure is better, just much more expensive. You also have to make sure it will be worth it if you'll actually use it. I like that this thing is cheap so it was not much of a loss if I don't use too much.
@@hybridresistance lol thanks, yeah i got it i think its crazy on what they are asking for... it seems like the "perfect" cardio machine but its hard to beat a good old run...
I don't believe you can replace the foot pedals. I think the pedals are fine if you have a decent pair of shoes shoes. I'm wearing minimalist shoes in my basement workouts, but still I got used to them.
But its still the ver to get that model u said is for gyms and not needed for a home its way cheaper to get this one which is why its been sold way more
Dude, why wouldn't you let your child use it? That kind of exercises can't be bad for kids, it's low impact and not that different from running. You obviously do what you want it's your kid, but it's pretty safe (under supervision).
I bought a Versaclimber TS and all these economy climbers are **** compared to my TS. You get what you pay for and I paid for the climbing gold standard.
The only thing I'd add to that is that I'm happy I bought a less expensive one first, because while I do use it, I don't use it that much or for that long.
It LOOKS too cheaply made, to me. I've read it's reviews on Amazon, and it seems to be too risky a purchase, for me. I'm only 6'2" and 245 lbs; I believe I'd break the machine after two weeks of consistent use.
The classic one is crap - bizzare thing between legs make your knees buckle and bend at the weird angle and it sicks - they won't accept return after 30 days or let you upgrade for a better version so they are greedy fucks - buy newer this one is fucked
