This movie holds such a place in my childhood. Not only because 9 year old me loved AC/DC, not only because 9 year old me loved Stephen King, but because 8 and 9 year old me was down in Wilmington, NC when they were filming this visiting my great-grandparents. It was a great time. Love the fuck out of this. High five to all the Patreons that voted for this.

As someone who has worked at a gas station before, the actual pumping of the gas is easy, yes. What is hard is standing on your feet for 8+ hours on concrete in direct sunlight. Not only is the air hot from the sun, but also from all the running trucks increasing the temperature, and the hard ground radiating the heat up from below as well. It's called Heat Exhaustion.
@mattschliemann9683

Yeah, I've literally gone outside on a 90-100+° day, and after five minutes, felt like I was going to pass out due to the temperature alone. So all those scenes containing all of what you said is totally believable to me. And if they weren't eating properly it could be even worse.

One of my all time favorite movie sets: The "Dixie Boy" truck stop was a set constructed 10 miles outside of Wilmington, North Carolina. It was convincing enough that several truckers tried to stop in, and eventually the producers had to put announcements in local papers saying that the "Dixie Boy" was just a movie set.

In fact, I'm gonna backup a moment. At about 10:57, you can almost see Matthew think of another movie with trucks that Emily *names*! 😉 14:03 - Stephen King wrote these lines, ladies and gentlemen! The Master himself! 🤣And Emily went after her wine because those lines made her feel... something. We probably don't wanna know what, but they were definitely something. 28:39 - Emily is about to launch into an explanation about using vehicles instead of nukes, apparently having forgotten that a man was murdered by a soda machine early in the movie, which was far less efficient for an alien invasion. (Gods above, now *I'M* trying to explain this movie!)

King has said that he unintentionally made the modern Plan 9 from Outer Space.

This movie is a definite guilty pleasure for me. Watched it as a young kid as I loved and still love AC/DC to this day, also loved Semi trucks as a kid (even built them roughly ten years back) and have always enjoyed Stephen King. My friends and I used to watch this and laugh our asses off. Good to see that it's getting some attention whether good or bad.

There's another ghost director rumor. David Lynch was also in Wilmington, NC at this time filming Blue Velvet (also for De Laurentis). Rumor is that he helped by directing the section with the boy walking through town.

To be fair, this movie has two audiences. 1. Those worn out from Saturday yard work who come in to crash in front of the TV, and 2. Those who come home after the bars close and crash in front of the TV.

Stephen King is always interesting. It's hard to know what to expect, because he has a different way of looking at things. Calling him a horror author is a rather limiting description. I have come to think of him as more of an R rated Stephen Spielberg. He has plenty of surprises. It might be interesting, if you could delve into some of the TV movies, like "It" and "Langoliers". Maybe even the TV version of "The Shining".

The last time I watched this was well before I should have recognized Giancarlo Esposito getting electrocuted by the pinball machine. The soundtrack is by leaps and bounds the best thing about this movie.

Oh, another interesting connection regarding the music: Stephen King singing an AC/DC song to AC/DC is not that surprising when you know that he was in a band of (mostly) authors. Called the Rock-Bottom Remainders, together with Dave Barry and Amy Tan (just the two I recall off the top of my head).

I was trying to find a movie where there's Killer Trucks and glad I was recommended, I just remember the scene where this lady was walking and a Truck showed up far behind. I was thinking it was Nightmare on Elm Street but didnt see the scene and I sort of remember that cover.

As was mentioned before, this movie is based on Stephen King's short story called Trucks. The movie was remade as a made for TV movie on the USA Network.
