i just got my Burson V5i today for the XD05 Bal 2. Compared to the stock Texas Instruments 1612A, initially, I am a bit dissappointed because they sound noticably V-shaped. Maybe depending on the headphones or iem, they may sound good, but I am using the XDuoo Bal 2 with $2K Dan Clark Audio E3, which is very linear, flat, with good dynamics, smooth treble, and especially detailed in the mids. Unfortunately, the Burson V5i Dual took away the mids, and is now more recessed. It is still there, but at the same volume as the stock TI opamp, it accentuates the bass and treble, making it more fatiguing. And the mids detail and neutral, full sound is the reason I purchased the E3. I think overall the Burson sounds leaner, less full, (but more bass and treble) and if I turn the volume down, the mids become lost. Comparatively, the stock TI 1612A actually sounds very close to the Headamp GSX mk2 on the same DCA E3 headphones. For now, I will go back to the Texas instruments stock opamp. Maybe the Burson will change once I have burned it in for 100hours or 3-4days. If not, I will sell it off. Next I will be testing the Analog Devices 827SQ, which is supposed to be more neutral, with better soundstage and imaging than the Burson or TI, however, it is no longer in stock by my usual distributors, and has to be ordered by the pack (a total of 48 chips, which I dont really need). However, the AD 827SQ is still $10 less than my order from Burson Audio which was $94 after taxes and shipping, for 2 chips. And yes, for the XDuoo Bal 2, you need 2 installed, otherwise the XDuoo Bal 2 goes into “Protect” mode. For the previous model, I believe you could use only one, but on the Bal 2 version, the opamp circuits are not bridged. They are separate, like you see in the video.

The leather case doesn't fit the bal2 very well. This is from the bal1 version, which is a bit shorter.

Only thing that holds me buying this unit is its hard to use volume knob :( why the hell XDUOO? If they giving us choice to use it either outside or on desktop (thanks to power switch), why they implemented this kind of weird volume knob? :(( maybe I'll pull the trigger anyway and use my laptop to adjust the volume, but it's kinda annoying :(
