The R1 is very different to the Feldbahn. It steams to well most of the time. I just have to put in a small amount of coal as the boiler is so efficient. I prefer the Feldbahn for hauling passengers around as it has loads more power and is more comfortable to drive as you can sit up more. I have watched your video of the Blue Feldbahn and can see you are using large bits of coal. The boiler being a marine type is nowhere as efficient as a proper loco boiler. The best way to get good steam pressure is to use Welsh beans from signal fuels as it burns very hot and you have to cram in as much as you can without it falling out of the door! Hope this helps
Hi we are looking for a replacement loco at the moment and the r1 is one of the few available right now. How does it compare to your other steamer? Would it pull a full size abbots mk1 full of passengers?
Hi Norfolk Rover I have only used mine at home on my garden railway so can’t say how many passengers it will haul. I have had three hefty blokes on my Mk1 coach plus me on my double bogie tender full of coal and water and it pulled just fine. I have seen the five inch R1 pulling several passengers so the 7 1/4 should have a lot more power. Hope this helps.
@@TheModelav8r it does thanks. Maxitrax have one but they have to make up a boiler be about nine months so should be ready for start of next season. Have contacted the organiser to take a loco to evergreens open day next month so be nice to see what you are running at the moment.
