This is a short video of my garden railway and how I cope with some tight curves . I had limited space in my garden, however I still managed to get a good railway setup The tightest curve is around twenty foot radius.
If 6 ft radius works well with 7½ in track, it would be even more suitable for 5 in track to the shed 🤔 But in the main line I'm going to use 3,75 m (12 ft 3½ in) radius anyway, just because it makes 30° angle with exactly 2 m long outer rail and fits perfectly into my garden 😉
The tight curves are all on aluminium track and do wear down. The wheels are steel and are still OK. When the track wear gets to much it’s easy to turn it around and re bend it. It’s also quite cheep to replace when necessary.
Hey, I know it's off topic from op, but by any chance could you do a "steaming up" tutorial with commentary? I've just inherited a few 5" Gauge Simplex locos, and have no idea where to start. I had them boiler tested, and all is okay - but I'm not confident enough to do it, the other tutorials on RU-vid seem to miss gaps of knowledge out, and it's hit and miss! Sadly, I don't have anyone to show me, in real life, the closest model railway doesn't accept members, just steam testing, and I asked if anyone could, and it was a resounding no.
Have a look at my video on how to run and steam a Feldbahn loco that should help. I am surprised you can’t find a local club to help as most are very willing to help new people. Where are you based?
@@TheModelav8r I'm on the welsh coast, nearest club is 87 miles away, and they're not very friendly. Local club, local people etc. I was pleased they even boiler tested my loco but that was it.
