I purchased the 3500 in 240v I live in Australia and do a lot of camping. I have previously owned Honda generators. It is just a little bit noisier than the Honda. Being a retired technician I have been able to fully test the generator. It passed all tests with no problems. In Australia this generator is AU$750. As you can see you can buy three of these for the price of one Honda. I have used it quite extensively and have well over 100 hours on it. I can highly recommend this generator.

I was looking at one of these primarily as insurance against power outages for the home. In Aus also ( VIC ). It’s really hard to get an idea of the sound they create from an iPad but they appear to be relatively quiet?? The 3kw is ideal for lights and keeping the fridge and freezer running, and maybe a fan or two through Summer. For the price they appear to be pretty good value.

I have had the MXR3500 for a few months now. After a few break in oil changes and switched the junk Torch plug to a NGK iridium it works fantastically. I’ve got 35 hours on it and performs great. The advertised fuel consumption is optimistic but I can run my 15k btu ac for 3.3hours on a tank of fuel. I bought a 6gal auxiliary fuel tank for it so I should have 21 hours of run time running the ac. I love that I can load a 3.5kw generator 1 handed and fit it in my RV storage compartment. Only complaints is I wish it came factory with tool less side panel removal and it doesn’t run smooth at idle with no load, and I wish it had a fuel gauge.

Yea a fuel gauge would have been nice. But yea the compact design is the seller. Interesting on the No load idle. But most times you always have a load. I bet mainly because it’s set so lean to be emission friendly.

Well they are supposed to have the parts warehouse in San Diego and this is supposedly a clone of the Honda gx140/160 engine. So bet some things could be found on eBay if needed. It’s the electrical components that will be harder to source.

Nice. They are supposed to have the clone Honda gx motor so I don’t think the engine will be the issue. But hopefully they just run. But any brand is susceptible to carb problems if not addressed. How many hours roughly ?

I live in California. When I ordered one, I had to ship it to a relative in another state, and then go pick it up... I got one because this seems to be the smallest generator with the most wattage output and has an 30 amp RV plug built in. Gonna use it on my RV to replace my Honda 2000. Now I am able to run the A/C with no problem. It is very quiet and starts on the first pull.... so far so good....

Hi JW’s, After much justifying of buying a new generator to myself and the financial controller, I finally took the plunge on one of these MXR3500’s. It’s an upsize over my old Senci 2kw Yamaha powered inverter generator. Very handy for standby power and the extra capacity over the Senci is welcome. I did a break in of fifteen minutes no load, then four seperate one hour runs with continually varying loads and oil changes at the end of each hour. The thing runs amazingly smooth, with no fluffy carburation or missing a beat. It does vibe enough however, to just move slightly on concrete. Only have to swap out the OE Torch plug for a decent NGK one now. Time will tell for reliability. Great to see your lakes and storage dams are starting to fill again, it’s been a long time for you guys, Cheers from Aus, Mike.

I just purchased one of these - Was difficult to choose this over a Honda, but the price and the extra power are huge benefits. Honda at 3000+ watts is 3k. Question, why only a 1 Year warranty? I can understand because of the cost, but most generators seem to have more than one year.

can someone please explain what a floating neutral is? Is that regarding 120 or 240v? Will most 120V appliances operate Ok? I assume the 30Amp circuit with the type of plug is mostly for Rv or campers....

Floating neutral is basically the neutral is in the windings of the generator and will use the home or RVs neutrals for bonding. So it is not bonded to the frame. Bonded generators you want to unbond it before hooking to a home but I guess some transfer switch’s can do this with in the switch is my understanding. This generator could be used for home back or Rv. There are all kinds of adapters to hook it to a home if needed.

@@johnnysweekends thanks. I am wanting to use it for my furnace if the power goes out during a winter storm. The running amps probably less than 5amps. I remove the breaker from the panel and wire in direct with an extension cord and grounding to the buss. Tested it for a few minutes and it seemed to be ok. Will try again to see if the gas works because it has to be in phase for the ignition to work properly. We will see.

Hello, the generator has been run in and the oil changed. It was shut down in the overdrive mode. Now it cannot be started. The stepper motor opens the throttle completely. when trying to return to idle mode and pulling the starter cord. the stepper motor immediately switches to swing. open position. and it is not possible to start the generator. what do you advise. thank you

You want to use 87 octane fuel. A higher octane will not offer any benefits but you can use ethanol free if you like. Or just run a fuel conditioner inside your gas can every time you fill up.

Johnny are you still using the mxr 3200 in your rv or have you moved on to something else? After watching lots of your generator videos, I’m thinking the 3500 would be good for my RV to run AC etc..

The 3200 and 3300 have moved on and I have the 3500. My friend has the 3200 and has used it a lot but not for rv. I’m still getting good feedback on the unit over all. They do tend to dance a little at certain rpm if on say a smooth surface like concrete, but also the 3500 has the same engine but says different manufacturer. It’s not from Dinking like the other two. Which is the Genmax line.

I don’t think there is a kit for these. But you probably could add a universal kit to shut off possible but may just be easier to buy the one with remote start and shut off.

No I don’t because so many options now have it built in and the kits can be a little temperamental. Plus after you buy a kit and the install it’s probably cheaper to just buy a few gens that have it. Depending how much power and model you need weather it be Genmax or champion and more.

The westing house is just a copy of other units from China. Much like others but GenMax is actually the maker of that unit. And utilizing a Honda clone engine. GenMax probably at one time made the Westinghouse for them lol

I live in Austria and have the old 3500 and my generator is popping in idle, your's is runnign just fine and I wonder if that's from the higher octane fuel I have because the lowest octane fuel I can get here in Austria is 95 Octane fuel and you're using 87 Octane.

It’s possible because higher octane fuel requires more energy to burn it efficiently. Like more compression. It can if using in the lower rpm’s foul plugs quicker, create more carbon build up and soot on the spark arrestor. You possibly could run 1 temp higher on the spark plug to creat more heat. But I would only do that in lower temps not 90 degrees and above during medium and high loads. I would also check to see the pilot or small jet is fully clear and clean..👍🏼

@@johnnysweekends Thank you very much for your answer, I will try the NGK CR6HS because in the manual it says to use the CR7HS and the CR6HS schould be a one step hotter plug according to the NGK spreadsheet. I will come back and report how the new spark plug affects the running behaviour of the little genny.

Yes correct. Lower number, hotter plug. Keep eye for color of plug. Golden brown is great or slightly lighter but white and grey is to hot and no good. Grey is bad because that’s piston dust 🤣 So run it maybe for a few minutes at idle see if everything sounds correct then a 1/3 load for about 10 mins check plug. Then 75% for 10-15 mins then closer to max but not max load for about 20-30. Unless the plug color doesn’t look good during the checks

The code is normally at check out. Genmax makes all the Maxpeedingrods rods generators for them. The Genmax and maxpeedingrods 3500 dual fuel is the same unit except the Genmax is a little more money with remote start.

Don’t do the open frame!! After the whisper quiet Honda you will hate it. If you need more power get the Harbor Freight 3500 inverter. Shockingly quiet and very reasonably priced 😊

That’s odd did you try to return it? Or have you cleaned the low speed jet? Because it shouldn’t run like that. What elevation are you at…? Try a new plug?

@@johnnysweekends yes I have cleaned the carb, changed and gapped the plug. I'm not at high elevation either. It does run smoother at idle or under load. I'm not sure what to make of it. But I have seen another review where it sounded similar to mine.

Huh that’s odd. All 3 of these run fine. Of course the new one only has about 30 mins but other two are good. The 3200 will be going away soon as a buddy needs a small unit. But I’ll keep the 33/35 for a while. That’s decent power lol.

I really want to buy one but I cannot for the life of me find where I can buy parts for this generator. A low upfront cost is no use if the thing craps out and you can't get parts for it. I think I will stick with Champion (I have four other of this make)

Genmax or Dinking power is the maker of the Maxpeedingrods line. Which you can find parts on eBay Amazon or parts warehouse in San Diego. They have a number listed. Although I have two brand new units from Maxpeedingrods I’ll be reviewing very soon.

Thank you sir...good to know. There seem to loads of new model generators coming on the market these days and you really have to wonder how many of them are going to be around long term. This model seems to be great value for the little money it costs so hopefully they will be successful enough in sales to allow them to set up proper parts and service availability. To date, that is why I have stayed with Champion (plus one Honda EU6500 for home backup), but I would really love to buy this up on Amazon. I'll watch for your reviews.....

UPDATE: I managed to buy one second hand but brand new in the box. With no warranty, I hope that I can find parts when and if I need them. Broken in now and oil changed to synthetic, magnetic dipswitch added plus and an hour meter added.. For the little I paid, this looks to be a superb unit. Like all these Chinese clones, the cylinder bore is aluminum, so unlike the better quality Hondas with steel bores like most cars, they won't have the longevity of the latter. But for the price, you can buy three of them to one of the Honda's. However, for home backup, I will stay with the quality HONDA EU 6500 for total reliability.

@TOURMANBOB nice find. And yes the aluminum bore wont last as long but if you get 60-70% of one Honda then you are ahead eventually. And two units have more power. There are parts in the back of the manual you can find a contact info there. Good little unit especially where the Honda falls a little short. Perfect for RV 15k ac units if you need small and compact

So far there have been many that love these. Sure I have seen a few that said it was having running issues out of the box, due to carb issues. But I have seen that with every brand out there. I dont know why many new units are coming with a plugged low speed jet, which is a common problem. Many love it it and its pretty impressive how well they do for a little gen. How long will they last? Don’t know still kinda new. So most I have heard is about 500 hours so far.

The batteries on these generators have a strange connector, so that if you want to charge the battery or buy a trickle charger for it, it’s an adventure finding one. My battery on my dual fuel 3500S (EU) is dead, and the generator will NOT start with the dead battery. Sadly, Maspeeding rods is not terribly helpful. Does ANYONE have ANY idea where I can get a charger with the proper connection for this?

I’ve been corresponding with Maxpeedingrod for days, and couldn’t get much info from them….you answered right away with the exact info I needed. I really appreciate it. @@johnnysweekends Well, they do say that no good deed goes unpunished……I got my moto charger today, hooked it up. It worked great for an hour, and now the green light indicating that the charger is getting power from the mains, is flashing. I disconnect the charger, reconnect it, the red light goes on for about 30 seconds to indicate charging, and then the green light starts to flash again. If I unplug the generator battery from the charger, the light turns solid green. Everything else on that socket works fine. I blew out the connectors, in case there was dust, etc. I’m suspecting a bad battery?? What do you think? And if so, do you have any idea where I can get another battery for this? Sadly, Moto has no customers service here, and Maxpeedigrods customer service is horribly bad.

It never made sense to me and it's very aggravating because it's, it's done intentionally. why is it that all RVs are have 30 amps They need 30 amps They don't need 25 They need 30 amps to run an RV Is someone thinking when they make these generators to make it so that they run at least 30 amps not 25 amps.

You don’t need 30 amps to run a 30 amp trailer nor do you need 50 amps to run a 50 amp trailer. You only need what the owner needs. If you only wanna charge batteries and watch tv a small 1000 watt Honda is fine. One 13.5k ac unit and small extras this size is perfect. No need to buy what you don’t need. I try to avoid temps of over 95-100 so I can only run one ac if I need. My solar system will run the 13.5k all day and more but the 15k will burn more energy than my solar can make but not by much. So I carry one of these suit case models. Perfect, smaller, dual fuel, a lighter.

@@johnnysweekends if you have the AC running and you've got the refrigerator running and you need the heat the hot water and you go and use the microwave why you got the TV on and the lights on Will that be enough 25 amps? I didn't look at all the units amperage to calculate it but I'm getting around to it once I start looking at their labels and I'll do the calculation. The past 2001 generator couldn't hold it up

@patriots5628 well first you need to look at what do you need while camping? Some want it all and some are minimal. First the fridge should be ran on propane if it’s a LPG/ electric. Way more efficient. And the water should also be ran on propane as water heaters along can use 1100-1500 watts just by them selves. If you need it for batteries and tv I suggest getting a good size solar panel or two. 200-400 watts would be great tied to a small inverter and then boom you have tv and normal lighting all day. Or even a power station for tv, coffee maker, hair dryer and more. And just charge that with either portable solar panels or the generator then shut generator off when done. A generator is only for when solar doesn’t keep up or typically running the ac unit only. Trying to run everything off a generator can get expensive. Gas isn’t cheap. Again solar can do much more than people think especially for the basics. When it comes to generators just think the large loads only like running a AC unit. People have survived with much less, and the camper runs most everything with out a generator except the AC unit. Unless it’s new and has a dc fridge then solar is a must.
