I don't mind keeping mine in the back of the wagon between the back of the drawers and the back of the 2nd row seats. I get what mud I can off them first, then bag them in a couple of heavy duty rubbish bags, before putting them back there. But just to add- the MaxTrax are absolute life savers. Especially if you don't have a winch, and in many situations could probably be better.

cheers Ronny, I'm just getting into 4x4ing and i reckon I've learnt 3/4 of my knowledge of you so far, so cheerio for that mate ! i live in victoria and I'm getting a bull bar and winch put on by ARB soon and i was wondering what other recovery gear i should buy when i pick up my car ? other than a set of Maxtrax of cause !

the most important part would be a front rated recovery point and then a full recovery winch kit bag, check the size of the snatch block as the ones that come in kits are sometimes so small they end up being useless/dangerous to use.

i remember helping someone and they spun there wheels on my maxtrax, had all the gear on the 4x4 but no idea, i told them not to go so fast but didnt want to listen and i couldnt jump under the car while hes flicking mud everywhere, he finally got out and after looking at them he bent most of them. Ive hardly ever had to use them and try help someone out and they nearly stuffed them.

Ronnie, is it possible if i was to use a bungie cord attached to the maxtrax and vehicle to tow the maxtrax along? Im thinking especially in times like sand that if you stop to pick up the maxtrax your likely to need them again. Have you ever done this?

you can tie the other end of the strips to the truck. that way once you are out of the struggle you can drag them at the same time. (might only work on the rear ones) i would be careful on mud though, you might actually break them if they are deep enough.

Will mounting them externally not result in cracking over time due to prolonged exposure to the sun?

I have not had that happen so far. I'd perhaps stack two on top of each other as they stack very well.

I've heard of people tying a strap to the Maxtrax and then to their vehicle. Would you recommend that?

+Matt V (Camel51) I'd only do that to the rear but I'd only do it if I needed to keep going for a long time to avoid sinking back in.

Why not attach a long line to the rear bumper and then the Trax before getting unstuck, so the truck pulls them out after you've come clear?

+FlamingTurkey Maxtrax come in many colours, but hard to find in shops and require special orders unless you get them stright from maxtrax or ebay.

Here is a tip regarding security. Try engraving them with your name and a phone number. Do it clearly, where the potential low life thief can see it written, before they start cutting the locks. It might be enough to turn a thief off, as they can't rub it out, to resell them. It will also put them off if they plan to personally use them. It also means that you might have it returned, if you loose one.
