Maxtrax Replacement Teeth Kit
Do you have melted teeth on your Maxtrax? Now you can get your Maxtrax working better than new with these replacement teeth. Save money and repair your favourite recovery aid.
Replace your melted teeth with these traction studs.
These teeth are strong and will not melt. CNC machined from aircraft-grade aluminium and supplied with a stainless steel nut.
They will make your worn Maxtrax work like they were supposed to, allowing the tyres to grip the track and pull it under the wheel.
Designed with a shallow nut so that you are still able to stack trax on top of each other.
Easy installation
- Cut the worn tooth away with a sharp utility knife and get the mating surface as flat as possible.
- Drill an 8mm hole in the centre of the tooth pad
- Insert the tooth and tighten the nut. The thread is purposely made tight to prevent the nut from loosening.

and a hell of a lot cheaper than the $24 for only 4 studs as advertised!

Yeah now they have the maxtrax xtremes and they're 500 bucks a pair. Like it costs them 250 bucks to whack aluminium studs in. I'm getting a shitload of 316 bolts and nylocks and repairing mine

@@billdickson1142 I replaced a few. It works well. I think I used 304 SS as they were about 30 cents each in M8x16mm. Like someone else said on here, I might try M8x16mm socket head cap screws next time and use the head for the tyre to grip to. They're about the same price and would look smicko

Daniel Iannantuoni I agree especially for the price you pay the ramp part should have metal studs
@melvinarias1044
@melvinarias1044 7 лет назад
Daniel Iannantuoni i thought the same but after some time thinking i wonder the reason for having them plastic was to protect your tires from burning grooves into your tires. i rather have the mat burn or damage then rather my expensive tires. could you imagine spinning your tires on these after a few mins those steel knobs will cut away into your nice tires. the best thing is dont spin them have someone out there looking at yoyr wheels.

I'd drill the hole first (from under-side), then sand the top. Using a centre punch (or even a nail) to mark the centre helps to stop the drill from "wandering".

Rather than cutting away mangled plastic I imagine an iron and some parchment paper/aluminum foil (to protect iron) would melt them flat and then you would have extra plastic reinforcing your new hardware. (Hardware found much cheaper at a local hardware store.)

Use M10 socket head bolts instead. Much cheaper and work great. I even put a few washers under the head to increase height of the stud for the tyre to grip to.

Be a good option just buying the tracks new. Buy,replace all stubs right out of the box then no worries. I would locktite them though.

No, they are very durable. The only time they would melt is if you wheelspin. If you wheelspin for the first 1 or 2 seconds, let go of the throttle immediately.

This is why you dont assist any fool you come across, obviously the person he assisted damaged his gear. Same with snatch straps , you get 8 goes then they are stuffed so if they need assistance they need to throw up some coin
@johnrogers5825
@johnrogers5825 5 лет назад
I needed a snatch and the guy wanted a carton of beer or money in case he stuffed his gearbox or whatever. No beer or money on me so no help from this guy. I waited half hour till some other guy came along and snatched me out. I only needed the gentlest of force, not even a snatch really. Some people are just pricks. But yes, if they aren't carrying their own recovery gear, they need to compensate somehow before helping, unless f course they are in desperate need.

@@johnrogers5825 In the military they teach us to never use your own med kit on someone else you pull their med kit out of their pocket and use theirs on them ( cause you may need yours in the future)! I think the same goes for recovery gear. If you need recovering you use your gear, if you don't have your own recovery gear you have no business being where ever you got stuck in the first place...
@johnrogers5825
@johnrogers5825 5 лет назад
@@mynameisprivate158 Private what? So anyway, my situation was doing a delivery to some tradesmen. The ground had been cut away ready for a concrete driveway, it was a new house being built. It had rained prior to my arrival, and the ground was a slippery muddy clay. I had a small truck carrying some sand for the bricklayers. I knew I wouldn't get a grip on the concrete street kerb to get back out, but the supervisor needed the sand near the house. He promised me they would help me out if I got stuck. Once sand was tipped off, they all started working and ignored me. Pricks. I tried chocking some stuff against the kerb, but there was too much clay that the tyres kept spinning. Tried to do them a favour and it backfired on me. Needless to say, they only ever got another delivery from me onto the footpath, flick them.

Have to say the maxtrax people are just greedy. Probably cost $5 each to make. Then to charge what? $24 for 4 bolts someone said, so just further greed. Really, the maxtrax are a faulty design, as they know the studs wear off easily. Not fit for purpose. The maxtrax, at the exorbitant price they charge, should come with metal studs on the ramp areas already.

Maxtrax understandably don't cover for wheel spin damage within their warranty terms, so we find that replacing the teeth is the best way to get more life out of the boards.
