Let me clarify to you and any future commenters , no I don't think Maxwell is working for radio spins nor ever has (with the exception of fortunate ) however the quality of his music and the lyrical content as of late doesn't signal growth it shows regression , his 24 year old self was making more important , emotional and spiritually moving music than his 42 year old self anyone with two working ears can hear it. Music critics namely dream Hampton kind of ruined the artistic journey Maxwell was gonna take us on listen to embrya and urban hang suite and then follow that with everything he made after fortunate...... I mean Even in his music videos he seemed more genuinely attached to his earlier work ( uhs , embrya ) it's not a hairstyle or a gimmick fans miss with him it's his sincerity that you just can't fake especially when you've made music in the past as great as his.

When his album in 2009 came out he won two Grammys and people said the same thing you are saying. All I'm saying is I wouldn't be surprised if he is nominated again for this upcoming album and even winning a Grammy again....

It's not so much back peddling but he had his spirit crushed when you read a article and a respect journalist opens a article by saying and I quote "Maxwell's biggest problem is he isn't d'angelo" , "I imagine him in a mirror making up his feigned modesty and nice guy act" just having your art and integrity attacked unmercifully how would you feel and Max seems like a sensitive brotha it changed the course of his career I believe.
