Maxwell tells Fran to keep her voice down, and she's not happy about it!

Can’t believe the show got canceled because people didn’t like that Fran and Maxwell got together and didn’t watch the show as much anymore, what people don’t want happy endings?!! It’s the funniest show ever and could have gone for more seasons.♥️

It's one of those risks even shows today take of stringing along an audience with the will they or won't they. Sometimes the viewers find the chase more entertaining than the catch. But this show is one of the few that still managed to be as good as it was prior to Fran and max getting together.

They should've dragged the engagement for a whole other season. This happened to a lot of shows. The problem is the whole dynamic changes between the couple with the sexual tension being gone.

Well, the show can't really continue when the The Nanny becomes the wife and the kid's step-mother. Especially since Brighton and Maggie were old enough to take care of themselves. Even Grace would've also been too old to have a nanny at the last season.

I re-watch some of the older shows now and feel like many of these couples that were "on and off" or took forever to have a real relationship...really shouldn't have! The issues that were going on during the show really were about their not being a good match. Fran and Max seem really irritated with each other a lot, at every point in the series. As...weird as Niles and CC are, they actually match better in terms of personality, and seem to respect things about each other beyond being attracted.

@@jessicalillianweinberg4401 I didn't think it that way. It's a respectful point of view. I always liked Fran and Maxwell together, they have lots on and off (I assume many of them happened to make the show longer) but I never saw their relationship in a bad or toxic way. What I really like is how lovely and demonstrated he got when he decided to be with her (how many times he said "I love you my darling" for example). Niles and CC rock too. The funniest couple, a good team, savage but full of love.

There are two factors: first, Maxwells single oversight over the children (after Sarah, before Fran) made them all miserable; Niles and C.C. were not enough to fill the maternal void left by Sarah. The second factor comes in the nature of the show itself, which needs conflict to progress events. Conflict between Fran and Maxwell make up the majority of the conflict simply because they are the main characters, and an episode full of peaceful downtime wouldn't be much of an episode at all.

I thought this was kind of a funny plot for them, because, they took forever to get married, but they were actually working together as well as sharing a house much of that time, due to her being "The Nanny." This seems like a plot for a couple that didn't know each other well when they got married. Now, they didn't really have a period where they were really dating - but this episode is about them getting to used to things about each other that they certainly were aware of - and living with - during the last five years.

@@jessicalillianweinberg4401 yes but he meant loud in bed. Bedroom noises will be a problem for a stiff upper lip person like Maxwell especially with the kids in the house. Her being loud in everyday life doesn't bother him so it's definitely not a case of something he should have known since they were already living together. This is a whole new situation. You even notice he said it was OK to be loud on the island cos they were alone

It's funny, because there were jokes throughout the show about CC "not getting any" - but after she and Niles got together, they...go at it...all over the house and in some...unusual places. They didn't seem to have any issues Max and Fran are having here.

Funny is... this is one of the very few scenes that are better with the German dubbing because "German Fran" actually IS really loud. If you watched this in German first you'll think she isn't "that" loud here. :-D (I love them married btw. After a low 5th season the final season was very good.)

The kids are pretty much grown. If it bothers them (doubt it does, they love Fran and know her well) they can always put on noise canceling headphones, or even, LEAVE. It was not any big deal at all. Maxwell is too repressed and wound too tight.

This didn’t make much sense, continuity-wise, because as much as she was mindful of Gracie’s mental health, I doubt she would have actively wanted to mentally scar her with her moaning (especially having been a victim of walking in on Sylvia and Morty in adulthood earlier in the series) However, for a sitcom script when they were desperate for ideas, it was perfect, to play off of Fran’s ego and Maxwell’s demure nature-it made for good television.

Fran didn’t know that the kids could hear what was going on in their bedroom. She didn’t figure it out until the next morning when Brighton and Gracie told her that they heard her and Maxwell fighting. That’s when she realized that Maxwell wasn’t being overly cautious.

I noticed that, too - Fran refers to the nightgowns she wears while married as "negligees" - but, while pretty, they're actually much less...risque than most of what she wore the rest of the time before she was married.
