The DHF is 1/2 lb heavier but more puncture resistant. I haven't tried the DHF 2.6 but I have tried the 2.5. I'd say the traction is better on the DHF 2.5 but not too much. DHF does better in a wider variety of conditions. Rekon excels in dry loose over hard XC/AM terrain like we have in Boise, ID.
Nice review! Just bought a Tallboy and having the Rekon 2.6 on the front and the 2.4 on the back. Wanted the DHR2 in a 2.4 for the rear but they didn't have them.
If like me your wondering which compound this is, its the 3C max terra. Had to pause in several places to pick it off the sidewall. I run a full rekon setup with max terra front and max speed rear, both 2.6 (real world measurement 2.45) runs fast & grips well. I ride mainly hardpack, rocky & hard over loose.
I’m debating between a DHRII and Forekaster (2.6) front tire and now Rekon 2.6. Riding mostly loose over hard and dry conditions (Northern California summer). Any thoughts? Plan to run 3C/MaxxTerra/EXO in whichever tire.
I have the Rekon 2.25 on the rear on my 29er XC. I ride mixed terrain with some technical sections, rocky, ruts, loose, loose over hard, sharp rocks..The Rekon has a nice tacky feel. The 2.25 nobs look mini however the traction is all there. As mentioned this tire eats loose over hard and rocky terrain with ease, and rolls fast at speed. If your use to running a fast rolling tire like the Ikon or a tire with a lower tread profile the Rekon does not carry the same momentum, but rolls plenty fast on the down hills. The cornering on the tire is confidence building and I feel well connected to the terrain even on loose over hard. The Rekon probably does better as a front tire in general as mentioned in posts and this review, but I could see how running Rekon front and back could be a nice setup of certain types terrain. I current have a Noby Nick up front but for a tacky and lighter front tire the Rekon may work just a bit better, maybe reducing rolling resistance and weight.. In the near future I think I will be getting an Ikon, an Aspen, or Conti CrossKing for the Rear moving the Rekon to the front. I paid about 65 for this tire. I don't think I have ever paid full price on schawble or maxxis. As our reviewer mentioned this tire seems pretty durable, after going over plenty of rough rocks and loose stones and sand, etc. this thing shows minor ware. I have say I'm impressed! I am sure the larger size reviewed has similar qualities going big is your thing..
Did you run a 120tpi tyre on the back of the hardtail too? I currently run a 2.5 DHF Exo+ (120tpi) and 2.4 DHR II Exo (60tpi) on the rear of my hardtail but I wondered if 120tpi is too supple for the rear?
ProMachineRider - Thanks for the feedback. I’m an all around trail rider. The terrain in Boise is mostly XC but I do quite a bit of riding in rocky technical terrain as well.
I tried running the Rekon 2.6 front and rear but didn't have quite enough clearance. Curious how it goes for you. It certainly works great as a front tire.
@UCnp-zYGm%F0%9F%98%84%F0%9F%98%84DenQHvLXmGEeuvA Thanks for letting me know. I just bought some and was curious. I was reading that 18-20psi is pretty good. Not that it matters now for you considering this was a year ago. Lol. What'd you switch to?
