I think the problem is that everyone saw Mia play a very emotionally open character, Pearl; and so when they get to Maxxxine they’re expecting her to progress into a Pearl. Where she states in interviews that Maxine is a focused/strategic character rather than Pearl who has a deep passion but does nothing to really go for it. I don’t really agree with the review since I don’t think the context was clear to you both. But everyone is free to have their opinion. 🤷♂️
but how could she cry like that on command and perform such an emotionally astute audition, but then be so cold strategic and somewhat hollow throughout the rest of the film? its like Ti wanted all the call backs from pearl and x but not to carry the soul of the archetype through the three consistently. that character choice you are describing above may have been the weak point that flattened the whole movie. and therefore kind of wasted the whole trilogy....
@@KevinZeph Well, she’s an actress. That’s what they do; conjure emotion to carry a scene. Maxine was never an expressive character to begin with when centered around people. Unlike Pearl who was completely the opposite. I think it just feels hindered because we know how effective Mia Goth is at portraying these larger than life personalities with wild emotions. Maxine just caters to a more calculative mindset, which can be effective if the material permits. I do think there should be more of a relation between Pearl and her as characters to complete the spirit of the trilogy. And maybe that’s what Ti will give us with a potential fourth installment.
Wait... did he just mispronounce "giallo" in the worst possible way? I usually enjoy their reviews, but talking about horror films is not their strength...
Love your reviews and I know horror is not both your strong suit but the horror sub genre you were referring to Giallo (black gloved killer, pop color aesthetics, Italian horror) is pronounced GEE-AH-LOW. 😉
👁 AM SHOCKED BECAUSE THIS MOVIE WAS DESIGNED FOR YOUR GENERATION. AT TIMES 👁 AM IMPRESSED BY THESE TWINS. THEY ARE BOTH BORN AFTER 2000 AND CAN ALMOST KEEP UP WITH ME EVEN THOUGH 👁 AM TWICE THEIR AGE. THEY HAVE BEEN 2 CANNES 4 TIMES AND 👁 HAVE ONLY BEEN TO PARIS TEXAS. MOST KIDS USE THE WORDS LIKE AND DUDE AND IT DRIVES ME UP THE BLEEDIN WALL. THE ONLY EAST T.I. WEST HIGHWAY MOVIE THAT 👁 LIKED WAS THE SACRAMENT. INSTEAD OF WATCHING THIS DROSS 👁 WOULD RECOMMEND FOR THE PARODY JOHN WATER'S TIMELESS CLASSIC "SERIAL MOM" FROM MY GENERATION. FOR THE ANTI-HEROINE MAYHEM, LUCKY MCKEE'S "MAY." THIS THRILLOGY AT BEST IS TEPID FOR THIS VETERAN CINEPHILE. 👁 AM GOING ON THE TWINS "GRAM" AS IT IS CALLED.
6:45 "I thought it was just good" haha. This is the problem with "today's critics", you want all films to be wow incredible, for the Oscars, I miss when we went to the cinema just to watch a "good film" and forget about the world for a bit.
Hello Mary! :) hope all is well . I think All films should aspire to be incredible! Maybe not all should aspire to be Oscar worthy but I think you should always reach for the stars if you’re a filmmaker. Btw I’m curious did you like the movie?
