This is Iceland's first 4K 24/7 live stream showing the lava erupting from a volcanic crater near the town of Grindavik Iceland. This eruption began on March 16, 2024.
Weather permitting, a tour of the area will run every 20 minutes.
This camera is situated on the southern tip of Þorbjörn. Þorbjörn is a 243 m high volcanic mountain next to the town of Grindavík. The camera is usually pointed Northeast at the erupting volcano but may occasionally pan north or south to observe other features of the area. It is about 2km away from the erupting volcano.
How you can help:

Give to the Iceland Search and Rescue: www.landsbjorg.is/icelandic-a...
Thanks!

Looks to be a lateral break-out from the south-facing exit port from the cinder cone, which is under a few meters a solidified lava, That port has formed a raised tube tunnel-like structure which is visible from the gases which evolve from the top surface through the somewhat porous rock. That tube supplies the large (100x200M) lake which then has several lava tubes starting at the far end (you can watch the lava disappear under the edge) which transport the still molten lava down to areas near the berm. Lava is pretty viscous, and usually follows a downward slope as it is pulled along by gravity, but it can also get pushed over obstacles by the thick lava behind it, so think of it more as taffy than water. The lava field is at a lower elevation that the cone which feeds it so it will continue to thicken as the pulled/pushed along by gravity. The lower field is now several meters thicker/higher than the protective berms.

These cinder cones are extremely fragile and prone to regular collapses or extrusions of lava, especially if a heavy lava pond is allowed to build up inside. The giant cone that was formed in Falgradsfjall in 2021 collapsed at various times allowing the lava to flow first west into Geldingadalur, then East and south into Natthangi Valley and finally north into Meradalir.

This will happen again, but it unfortunately might be Grindavík.

I expected that it would breakout to the north eventually. The lava pond has become greatly elevated with relation to the surrounding landscape and the flow to the south has slowed as the lava flow inflation continues.

I find it fascinating to watch how our global weather is affected by these volcanic eruptions, especially here in the northern hemisphere. This is how our planet heals itself from all our toxic activities. Chemtrail busters. So fascinating.

Well if magma is moving up,iy has to come out somewhere. There are lava tubes underneath. We have no idea where all lava is going. There was no collapse of cone.Just looking for a way out
