The volcanic eruption on the Spanish island of La Palma is now over but its impact on whole communities wiped from the map, and the local banana-growing economy, will be felt for years to come.

The thing is that the reason there are so many plantations in that area is the reason they were/are at risk of volcano eruption and lava damage. Old volcanic soil is incredible fertile. That why humans have been settling near volcanoes and surrounding areas for centuries.

@@SCARRIOR Volcanic ash isn't a fertilizer, what you're talking about is volcanic soil which is very fertile but still not the same thing. After years of erosion, water running through it, the earth mixing, some extreme plants growing through it and then decomposing on top of it, make volcanic soil nutrient rich after decades from the volcano erupted. Lava run offs and piles of ash aren't fertile, as plants can't simply grow on them.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't feel empathy for those going and growing through the unimaginable but wishing for nature to not coexist with us so that it saves us from some pain is plain stupid. @@self4341 Am I daft? No. I don't belive so. It is simple logic we can't beat Mother Nature. The more we build, dam, pollute, or forget about the true power of nature. The more human injury and/ or loss there will be. Also not all evolution requires pain. Just like every human does not have to struggle, or suffer loss to have lived. Some live an entire lifetime that is blissful or non eventful. And not everyone needs to reside in a 1st or 2nd world country to live what they consider a fulfilling existence. Regardless we are all an interconnected global community. The actions and effects of some us can help or damage the rest. Chaos theory is wonderful in math and physics. However human behavior, cognition, emotion, and experience can not be categorized by chaos theory alone. You're entitled to your opinion which is the beauty of these platforms. i feel like for communities near active volcanoes, there should be some kind of infrastructure to minimise damage done when said volcano erupts e.g. maybe something like a canal meant for diverting possible incoming lava away from the area. May be costly and difficult to build seeing as they would have to account for how slowly the lava will flow so that the thing is deep enough to prevent the lava from over flowing, but honestly i feel like that would be better than just hoping it wont erupt or just hoping that the damage would be minimal

My grandmother was born in 1936. She was only a girl when she saw the 1949 eruption. In 1971, my father, seven, watched with her. 2021, he watched religiously on the TV from our home in Gran Canaria while she shoveled ash off her roof.

My house is 3km due north of the volcano. Luckily (for me, not others) the lava and much of the ash headed to the west away from us. We still had about 20-30cm of ash fall on our home and land. The cone of the volcano is easily visible from our living room window. It is still steaming, the air smells bad of sulphur dioxide occasionally (though not at dangerous concentrations) and there is a layer of pale yellow sulphur on the top and the flanks of the volcano.

People build their lives around volcanoes and then they wonder why there's lava in the living room.
@irenediazdiaz8628

Nobody is wondering anything, they know they live in volcanoes and that an eruption can happen. They knew before hand that the volcano was gonna erupt, that's why no one died. You think that people started living and building in the islands 50 years ago or what? People have been living there for centuries. Their parents, grandparents, great grandparents... They lived there too. Their work, house, family, everything is there. So please stop assuming things like "why are they living there? don't they know they live near a volcano?" Yes, the millions of people that reside in the Canary Islands know.
@Idrathernot.
@Idrathernot. 2 года назад
@@irenediazdiaz8628 So you’re saying they have no common sense? Why risk having their loved ones die a horrible death? If they can start over after a volcano destroys all or most of their stuff, they can do so elsewhere. They’re playing a dangerous game.
@irenediazdiaz8628
@irenediazdiaz8628 2 года назад
@@Idrathernot. Look, I live in the Canary Islands. We are not risking anyones lives, the volcanoes' activity is always being monitored, so we will know before hand if an eruption is happening, which is not that common. People from La Palma are starting over with the help of the government, so it isn't the same as moving elsewhere because you lwant to. And the thing is, we don't want to move, we know that we live in volcanoes and we are fine with it.

Volcanic soil is extremely fertile. Good for all the farms and the plantations you see all around, but of course the risk of eruption is always there as we've all seen. Eventually the land will recover and the ashes will nourish the soil for new farms and plantations.

Realistically, if this happened in the USA, there would have been injuries and deaths of people who didn't obey the instructions to leave witthin five minutes and I'm not sure that the government would pay people who lost their houses the equivalent of $75,000. So while the erruption was a real tragedy, I suspect if the same thing happened in America, it would have been far worse.

Is it possible to build large canal like structures that would allow the lava to flow in a specific area/direction and keep housing out of that trench?
@sylvarnuovis7240
@sylvarnuovis7240 2 года назад
Lava makes its own « pipes ». Meaning if there was a canal, the lava would cool around it and block it up. So no
@kinnai8334

The problem with that is that you don't know where the next eruption will be. It's multiple volcanoes with multiple chimneys so making canals for each is just an overkill solution imo...

i feel those who would allow the market dynamism to determine when to trade or not are either new in space in general or probably just naive, the sphere have seen far worse times than this, enlightened traders continue to make good use of the dip and pump even acquiring more equities towards trading sessions, l'd say that more emphasis should be put into trading since it is way profitable than hodling. Trading went smooth for me as I was able to raise over 9.2 BTC when l started at 1.5 BTC in just few weeks implementing trades with signals and insights I would advise you all to trade your asset rather than holding for a future you aren't sure about.
