We lived in Omaha for three years and saw some wild weather, but NOTHING like what the good people of Moore face practically every year. These storms are just incredible.
"Practically every year"....? They have had 2 major tornadoes in the past 23 years. Unlucky, sure, but I wouldn't say they experience stuff like this every year.
@@evirs Hyperbole? Sure, I'm guilty. My bad. What I do know is that our good friends who live in Moore have had to rebuild twice in the last 12 years and send us tornado footage annually. Granted, not every one is directly through Moore, to your point. Maybe I just miss the Midwestern storms after living on the east coast for the last decade. Whatever...
@@michaelandcolinspop Meant no offense, but it doesn't do anyone any good to over exaggerate the severity of the events. No doubt they have been through a lot. Have a good day
@@evirs if you look at the damage paths through and around Moore you’ll see there’s been way more than just 2. Even if they weren’t hit by some of them that’s still a real close call. It might not be every year but pretty often they get tornadoes in the area that could flatten a city.
No you right @ M.D. even storm chasers and weathermen and women call Moore it’s own mini tornado alley. And yes it’s been more than 2 big tornadoes that have hit Moore, doesn’t have to be a dead on direct hit, they have had a shit ton of close calls. Apparently close calls don’t count according to some people, only counts if it direct hits them.
Those Modulator Tornado Sirens sounded pretty scary awesome. Nice catch & I hope you were safe! Also when the sirens went off for the 2nd activation, I think I heard a 2T22 in the background before the Modulators sounded.
The sirens were too damned late! The tornado was already on the ground or close to it. I’m a trained spotter and hobby chaser. I live in northern Illinois, and our people are on the ball. The minute the Weather Service issues a warning based on circulation on radar, our sirens are sounded and remain on.
Tornadoes are scary enough on there own, but it doesn’t help the fact that the sirens used to warn people of the tornado sounds like a choir of demons.
It's really hard to hear the sirens when a strong storm is over your house. They have to make the siren sound screeching and piercing like this so hopefully it cuts through the sounds of the storm. I've been in storms that I could barely just hear the siren that's very close to my house.
@I'm Out people wouldn’t know it’s a warned system until the sirens go off. The sirens are meant to warn you that threat is still persisting in the warned area. After the threat passes, the city will stop activating the sirens and begin rescue operations.
Very nice job. I would have been freaking out and I've lived in Moore Oklahoma all my life. Unfortunately its something you get used to. You have a very pretty house.
@jennifercavaros5175, I’m honestly fascinated with tornadoes. I’m from Australia and whilst we do have them, they are usually water spouts and an EF0/EF1 at best - I could literally write a book of questions for you, especially the fact you live in Moore. How on earth do you guys just solider on and get on with every day “normal life”? If there’s a storm brewing, do you guys immediately assume it’s an EF5 building up or do you guys wait and see if it even transpires into a tornado? You Moore natives are incredible, I cannot praise you guys enough for your resilience 👏🙏
I just moved from Colorado,to OKC ,this will be my first tornado season here,i got my saferoom installed days ago, hopefully i don't use it but if i do ill be prepared, thanks for sharing 😊
May and June are the worst months as far as tornado season here. Moore, Oklahoma is one of the unluckiest towns in the world. Notoriously tornado prone for some reason.
For some, it’s just another day. They’re so common in the Midwest and central plains and people have adapted. Plus so many of us find them fascinating, myself included. They’re so beautiful to watch but of course very destructive in populated areas.
I dealt with a tornado a lot of times. And one of then turn out to be an actual tornado. It caused damage. And i started filming. We lost power for 7 hours due to the thunder hitting
As long as it is not coming your way there is nothing to be scared of i been through 3 tornados ranging in intercity. They are not from the devil or god weather is free to do what it does
I saw this live on kfor. Was the last day of school for me and we spent most of the day watching the weather and getting pounded by extreme wind, rain, and some hail. Was in north okc at the time
I must be the only one that finds the sirens kind of nice sounding. Of course it makes complete sense why someone in the OKC metro area to dislike them, but the ambience is kind of cool. The tornado however is a completely different story. Hope you guys were safe
In the middle of an empty field is one thing. A massive town is another. But they are kind of cool to watch (when people and things aren't being broken and killed.)
LOL at this woman not wanting to stop filming when an F5 extremely dangerous and deadly tornado is right on her doorstep!! I would have done the same damn thing though.
@@mjt777x8 It was probably going away from her. Plus the people in the midwest, especially the OKC Metro area (where she lives) are so used to these types of events they already know what to do and how things go
Well, when you live somewhere like Moore, where these are quite common, you’re just used to them. But with the heavy media coverage and how well they can track and tell you what streets it’s hitting, it’s easy to know where it is and if it will hit or miss you. :)
General rule is when you get a tornado warning, take cover until the warning is lifted. Unless you know 100% you're out of its path, predicting if its going to hit you or not is basically russian roulette. You don't want to take the chance at all.
About 7:00 you can begin to hear the roar of that monster! My question is why do they wait until a tornado that big is on the ground before they sound the sirens??? That’s inexcusable!!😡
If I ever visit that state and saw a tornado, I would be screaming my lungs off and crying like a baby. Sorry in advanced. Born and raised in Georgia. Never saw a tornado in my life. XD
They shut off after 3 minutes because the newer electronic sirens have sensitive speaker drivers that could blow out after being on for so long, so they need a break, then they activate again per the OEM and NWS in Norman.
It's fantastic that she was pointing the camera at the WRONG THING. If y'all don't see it at the beginning and middle of the video, the tornado is to the left, not in the middle.
Does this woman know, that she actually recorded *the majority of the video* looking at the forward flank of the super cell and not the tornado itself?
impressionnant ce type de phénomène météo en France on a jamais vue cela le peuple américaine est frappé trés dur par la météo et Hurricane Sandy je suis de tout coeur avec vous goerge Andrieux de France impressive this type of weather phenomenon in France was never seen that the American people are very hard hit by the weather and Hurricane Sandy I agree wholeheartedly with you goerge Andrieux of France facebook/cartman lagon
I never said they didn't signal doom. They do. I just enjoy the collab of the sirens. I'm not encouraging anybody to be outside during a tornado. That is a fatal mistake most of the time.
I live in Utah, and we don't have tornado sirens as the weather and geography aren't conducive the monsters you get in the southeast and Midwest. Yes, we do get them, but they are usually rather weak for a tornado, and they really don't do much.
If I saw something like that here in Louisiana, I'd wear out my shoes before I stopped running. We can't have storm shelters here. The soil's not right for them.
+Jon Jukes She spent half of the video filming the secondary mesocyclone without knowing that the tornado was to the left of her focus in half of the video. But the huge tornado came within 1/2 mile of her...most of the traffic was trying to get away from it. Why didn't she go after it?? Because not everyone in Oklahoma is a storm chaser...contrary to belief apparently. I would have been scared as I'm sure she was...no need to get into a vehicle with it that close. You are better off to stay where you are.
+Jon Jukes A historical event in hindsight. Unless you know for sure you can get away from it in time, it is better to stay off of the roads...most people aren't trained storm spotters or know exactly what they are looking at in the sky and what it is doing. She did the right thing in not "going after it" for many reasons.
+Jon Jukes agree with mda037, if you can't even aim your camera at the tornado while in your own yard, you certainly should not be out in a vehicle chasing after it. For the majority of this video, she wasn't even looking at the actual tornado! If you go chasing these things, without knowing what you are looking at, you put not only yourself in danger, but a whole lot of other people as well.
Tornado sirens are actually civil defense sirens. They alert you to an emergency situation. Many have been saved by them...do you want them to sound like church bells?
Here in the US they're not used for Civil Defense anymore because the Cold War is over and the need for air raid sirens has become a thing of the past because of Smartphones, the only place that uses them for nuclear missile alerts is Hawaii because they are so close to North Korea.
Sounded like the siren was taken out or they got tired of hearing it and turned it out despite the enpending DOOM approaching. brave soul for filming even as DOOM is approaching. I might have recorded for a little but I think I would have gone in and hunkered down heart racing and scared to death. I also love the cars driving by as if nothing is happening. was in Edmonton, Ok visiting 25, May 2019 when El Reno was hit by an EF-3 Tornado. luckily it lost strength as it moved Northeast from were is was. Got lots of heavy rain and wind but no hail.
The sirens go for 3 minutes then shut off. They turned them back on. I was due south of the tornado so I knew I was OK, I just had to watch for Flying objects!
