MY LIFE: A BLESSING
Genesis 12: 1-3; Zechariah 8:23; Luke 1: 54-55, 72-75
INTRODUCTION
A. When God called Abraham in Genesis 12, He promised him great blessings if he would obey him.
God gave him 5 promises and 2 predictions.
1. I will make you a great nation. 12:2a
2. I will BLESS you. 12:2b.
- Great possession. Genesis 24:35
- Many strong descendants. 15:5; 17:5; 22:17
- possession of the land of Canaan. 17:8
3. I will make your name great. 12:2c.
- a power to be reckoned with.
4. I will BLESS those who BLESS you. 12:3a
5. Whoever curses you, I will curse. 12:3b.
2 Predictions
1. You will be a blessing. 12:2d.
2. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you. 12:3c.
B. Melchizedek Blessed Abram. It was a reinforcement. Genesis 14:17-20
- Melchizedek was called the priest of the most High God. 18.
C. Abraham transferred that Blessing to Isaac.
- Abraham transferred physical blessing to Isaac. Genesis 25:5
- God transferred the spiritual blessing to Isaac. Genesis 25:11
D. Isaac transferred the Blessing to Jacob. Genesis 25:27-29
E. The Blessing was transferred through Judah to David. Psalm 89:19-21, 28-29, 33-37
F. The Blessing was transferred and refined through Jesus. Luke 1:31-33.
WHAT IS THE BLESSING?
Note that there is a special meaning attached to the blessing.
- Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing. Genesis 27:41
- Isaac called it "the blessing of Abraham" Genesis 28:4. [1-4].
- Esau was begging for "one blessing" from Isaac. Genesis 27:34-38【38】
Do you have only one blessing? YES! ONLY ONE.
WHAT THE BLESSING IS NOT
1. The blessing was never a material blessing. Jacob left home with nothing tangible. He was even hoping God will him bread to eat and cloth to wear. Genesis 28:20
2. Though Esau became a great nation and blessed materially, he did not have the blessing. Genesis 33:8-11; 36:1-43.
WHAT THE BLESSING IS:
IT IS ABSOLUTELY SPIRITUAL, BUT HAS MULTIDIMENSIONAL PHYSICAL MANIFESTATIONS
1. The Blessing is being chosen or elected by God for a purpose
Abraham was chosen to start a new race.
Jacob was chosen instead of Esau
David was chosen amongst his brethren.
2. The Blessing is a Seed of Promise which is Christ. Galatians 3:16
- Mary and Zacharias referred to this seed of Abraham in their prophesies.
Luke 1:55, 72-73.
3. The Blessing is the Salvation - forgiveness and justification we receive through Jesus Christ. Galatians 3:8-9
4. The Blessing is the Gift of the Holy Spirit we receive through faith in Jesus Christ. Galatians 3:14
5. The Blessing is the Power and Influence we receive to bless other people. John 20:21-22
6. The Blessing is an anointing that rests upon a man to fulfil God's destiny.
Whoever or Whatever you are involved with prospers.
- It is a contagious blessing.
7. The Blessing is a seed of greatness. A man just become great in God's hand for wonders.
8. The Blessing is a covenant blessing that is transferred from generation to generation through obedience.
ZECHARIAH IS A FULFILLMENT OF ABRAHAMIC BLESSING. Genesis 12:3c
ZECHARIAH 8:23
- Ten men, out of all languages of the nations. One man from each tribe.
- They will hold the skirt of one Jew - male or female, adult or child, married or single, rich or poor, educated or not.
- They will say, "We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you!
They will not see before they believed. They will only hear. I WANT SUCH A BLESSING.
GOD CAN REPLACE KIDNAPPING WITH THIS!
EXAMPLES OF PEOPLE BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING
1. Abraham. Genesis 20:17-18
2. Isaac. As he was digging the wells, they were taking it over. Genesis 26:15-21
- His enemies were forced to make a covenant and receive blessing from him. 26-30
3. Jacob.
- He was a blessing to Laban. Genesis 30:27
4. Joseph, possesing almost nothing materially, was a blessing to
- his father
- his brothers - short and long run
- Potiphar
- the Warden in the prison
- fellow prisoners
- Pharaoh
- Entire land of Egypt and the then world.
5. David was a blessing to
- his father
- King Saul
- hopeless men who followed him and later became great.
- Entire nation
- allies in other countries
- families and individuals in Israel
HOW TO RECEIVE THE BLESSING
1. RECEIVE SALVATION BY GRACE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.
2. BE CONSECRATED TO GOD.
That means nothing will come between you and God
3. BELIEVE IN WHAT GOD IS USING YOU TO DO NOW. 1 Timothy 4:14; Philemon 6
4. DON’T ALLOW ANYONE TO DOWNTALK YOU. 1 Timothy 4:12
5. BE ZEALOUS FOR THE THINGS OF GOD. Psalm 69:9; Romans 12:11;
6. PRAY FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO BE A BLESSING.
7. BE READY TO OBEY GOD AT ALL TIMES.
Obedience is better than fasting
Obedience is better than prayer
