You pronounced Rio de Janeiro right originally. Whoever corrected you must speak Spanish, but in Portuguese we pronounce the letter “j” differently from Spanish speakers. I’m Brazilian, you can take my word for it! 😂😂 Can I just say, I find your channel a breath of fresh air in this crazy world we live in today. This is where I come to unwind. ❤❤
Jessica Braun, I love when you do these types of videos and I am sooooooo thrilled that SOMEBODY finally called out ULTA's website it is horrid! A total nightmare! I literally stopped. I will only go into an ULTA brick & mortar store. THANK GOD somebody else besides ME realizes this!!
I think the customer reviews might be higher than RU-vidrs’ reviews because most consumers don’t have as much to compare it to. If a product is better than something we’ve been using it seems really good. It’s nice to watch reviews and see what really worth the money. Thanks!
Hadn’t even considered this! I have one tiny makeup bag with like 6 products and the same 4 brushes I’ve had for 8ish years at this point in my life. My favorites are just whatever I have and it’s all from Walmart 😂 this makes a lot of sense!!
I find influencers who are my skin type and close to my skin tone. Then I believe their declutters over their reviews and the reviews on the site. Jessica is the only youtuber whose reviews I believe over her declutters because she actually declutters!
I find sometimes I have an urge to buy new products that influencers love but I’ve been trying to be better about checking myself and what I need in my routine instead of needing to join the bandwagon. ☁️☁️☁️
Me too, but I think to myself I can't buy everything they do and do I actually need it, will I use it and how many of that product type have I got. Because if it's a eyeshadow palette for example, I'm not buying anymore. I've got enough and I need to use those first 🤣🤣
I love the chatty vibes of this video. Part deinfluencing, part coffee chats, viewers comments incorporated, fun little heart to heart combined with useful practical info. All together just very well done!! ❤
i recently binged Hannah Alonzo’s Influencer Insanity series-it was really eye opening! i consider myself an informed consumer, and still i catch myself thinking i need something when likely I already have a product that does the same thing (or better!) it’s good to find influencers you’ve followed over the years that have taste and discernment that you vibe with-but even then, you don’t NEED everything! and i just have to remind myself of that sometimes. ❤ you, jess.
I have the opposite experience with Sephoras website, they never remove stuff they discontinue/out of stock and every time I try to go back it takes me to the top of the page and it stops me from buying from there. I LOVE shopping through Ulta, I never have any issues. Btw, your look today with the earrings, the hair and the lipstick?? Chefs kiss!
I typically only have one product at a time. If I see something I want you to try I put it on my wishlist. When I run out of a product I pick something off my wishlist to try in that category. This way I am using what I buy. I have a couple items I will keep buying and won’t try new that are holy grails. Mascara is the only thing I have a few of because I like using colored mascara.
Hey Jess!! Brazilian viewer here!! For years! Its Janeiro not Raneiro. You were right. The confusion is because of spanish x portuguese. Not a big deal. But because you talked about it i had to comment 😂 lots of love for you and your family!
Btw i order the debronzi by drunk elephant and im waiting to arrive. I already knew that its not for me. But the hype got me. And now im watching your video 😂😂 yeeah i already know that im going too try and pass to my sister. No im not an influencer. Just sped my money on makeup 😢 tks for doing this kinda of videos
@@mariana_nm90girl, I’ve gotten the bronzi drops as samples multiple times and have end up tossing it. I’m not a bronzing drops girl. Hardly even use bronzer unless I’m taking my time with make up. So for me I was surprised that product went so viral because I could’ve cared less haha.
Natasha Denona and Catrice True Skin are your two holy grail concealers😂😂 you said to comment below if any of us knew what they was, so I had to comment 🥰❤❤
I do use bronzing drops in the summer. I would rather buy different "types" of foundations rather than darker shades of foundation in the summer. Hope that makes sense. I mix bronzing drops in my foundations as I tend to be a bit darker in the summer.
⛈️⛈️⛈️ Keeping up with "Joneses" is now Keeping up with "Virality". The constant hyping up a product achieves 2 things: Buying when you don't truly need it and the makeup company noting they can continue to hike their price cause we've taken the bate. This is MY OPINION! Thank you for sharing. Happy Mother's Day💐 and God bless
☁️☁️☁️ Love this video. I think “de-influencing” has become increasingly important with how prominent TikTok has become. The reviews within short form content aren’t ever as in depth as the ones within long form content. Makes it hard to know what is actually good versus what is “fine”, bad, or just trendy. Love these chatty videos 🤗
These are the videos everyone needs to see! It’s so easy to fall in to the “trendy” things without actually questioning if it fits into your own personal life. Thank you for the de-influencing❤
I think folks need to figure out what types of products work well for their skin types, and build around that. Through trial and error, I’ve decided I love the creams and products that can blended and built upon. I’m honest in my reviews, just a mom in the basement playing with makeup lol.
I totally agree! For my personal everyday routine, I use bronzing drops every day mixed in with my sunscreen and I use that in place of a foundation. So for me, I would use the bronzing drops every day, but not everyone would!
I agree. The Rare Beauty and Elf Blush (dupe) for instance. I can’t get either on without it lookin odd and a bit streaky (it’s also hard to control where it goes on the skin. Once you hit 30, where you place blush matters). Yes, it lasts a long time, which is great. But not THAT much longer with cream blushes set with a bit of powder and/or setting spray. (Unless I’m doing something very wrong that is…and there is a pretty good chance I might be. Any tips on applying liquid blushes are welcome)! One I do like is a setting spray that works as a primer too. Catrice and NYX have good ones. Those, along with sunscreen work well for me as a strong primer (and cuts down on the amount of products you need). I wish makeup companies would advertise what products work best with what different types of skin. Sort of like “Best with…”
I’ll be honest, I think I am developing an addiction due to influencers telling me I need products and they are going to g to sell out fast. I have enough makeup that I will never run out.
I have a special place in my heart for the Nars Radiant concealer because when I started wearing more makeup it was nearly impossible to find a shade of any face products that were fair enough for my skin tone. I am SO happy that the drugstore has now caught up and it is much easier to find a more diverse shade range!
You look so beautiful in this video! I love your shirt, your makeup, and your jewelry and of course I love your content. You are the BEST creator out there -variety of content, honest reviews, clean, and drama free. Older "sister" here is so proud of you!!!
I don’t even wear makeup anymore and I still love watching these videos lol I really love the idea of conscious consumption and deciding what I think would actually work for me instead of just what looks cool or for my fantasy version of myself. Watching review videos or de influences or favorites from people like you who I’ve watched forever and learned I can trust is so helpful for that. ☁️ ☁️☁️
☁️☁️☁️Always watch your videos until the end. You are the perfect solution to my days. I always save yours and Taylor Wynn's videos for last so I can end on a comforting note.
Aquaphor for under the eyes is also amazing! You don't need to spend money on eye cream. I also put a little aquaphor in my hand and mix my body lotion with it and it is the BEST moisturizer!
Octoly sends product for review - and I’ve noticed that everyone always reviews them SO WELL when they’re given for free. I’ve tried some straight up bad products or sooo expensive and the reviews don’t reflect it if they weren’t gifted. 😅 I’m like - people act like you spent the $95 eye cream! It’s no better than a $20 eye cream!
This is literally why I left RU-vid 5 years ago. It was unsustainable the amount of product you would need to buy if you weren’t sent product, to make your channel competitive. It was too overwhelming 😓
I recently bought benetint and I gotta say - IM USING THIS! It blends out so well with my fingers (aka one brush less i gotta use) and it looks so natural and good and stays the entire day!
I do not trust reviews from people that did it for a promotion or whatever. I feel if they paid for it chances are it may be different. I loveeeee plumpers that burn. I notice no plumping if it doesnt.
OKAY! So I have some thoughts about Sephoras best selling list.. it only shows items that I look up/am interested in! I thought I was losing my mind at one point but when I started looking at some random items and they started showing up on the best selling list, that’s when I knew Sephora was being shady!! Has anyone else noticed this?
Yes and I just checked and it is exactly my purchased products during Sephora sale (last time I shopped) and a few items I “loved” or viewed a few times but didn’t buy. 💯 wish I could give you 1000 likes so people read this and question it.
I have to say.. I totally approve this message about finding what actually fits into your personal routine. However.. please try the milk makeup blushes by putting it on the brush first. That’s how I apply and it’s actually my favorite blush ever!
I have had to take breaks from watching beauty videos because the viral products I’m not into whatsoever. I have been following you since the jambeauty days. Equally a loyal viewer to others over 10 years now. Content on certain platforms are about the quantity of videos being pushed out rather than worrying about the quality of the video or really doing research and testing out products. Glad you’re still an OG reviewer ❤❤
☁️ ⛅️ ⛅️ I am still upset to have bought the Givenchy loose powder, I have the pink one. The problem is not the powder, it’s the powder on me: so drying, shows wrinkles that I didn’t know I had. And I am mad at myself because on the Sephora app, many reviews were saying the same bad feedback. I was influenced by another beauty guru/makeup artist who ignored the comments confirming what I think now and insisted by saying how good was this powder for dry skins. Nope, very bad. Most RU-vidrs are honest about their opinion, but some of them have maybe a deal with a brand, or just they like the brand because they receive a lot of products from it, maybe. I don’t know what it is but one thing is sure: as soon as I have a doubt about the RU-vidr’s sincerity and honesty, I unsubscribe. Trust is very important in the relationship Creator-Viewer, if the trust is broken, it’s definitely over, life is too short to listen to BS. Conclusion: I will use my Givenchy powder but I’m not happy at all. I feel stupid to have bought it.
Literally every youtuber, including jessica, loves this powder and I don't get it. It does nothing for me. I think the only person I heard give it an average or meh review is Emily Noel. I don't understand what I'm missing because I think the hourglass, huda, even the wet and wild one is better
@@irisk934 Emily Noel has other favorites that I don’t get either, especially anything related to Hard Candy or Walmart or cheaper it is, happier she is. I had many disappointments with the Emily Noel recommended products. I suppose that the best way to know is to try ourselves, and to only buy what we really need.
I do data science for an e-comm company. Ulta and Sephora absolutely control what products are in their best sellers list, it isn’t likely just based on sales volume. For example, they likely serve up recommendations that are profit favorable, not those that aren’t. And some products are likely vendor funded, meaning it’s possible some manufacturers give ulta/Sephora a rebate to offset the cost of goods. That would also make certain more margin favorable vs others. Sephora is also wise to sprinkle in some newer best sellers to increase basket size - old favorites likely don’t need as much advertisement to make it into peoples baskets. Agree that Ulta’s website is terrible. They need to invest more in IT/data scientists!
I trust nobody on the Internet - been their done that - I don’t care who you are if you are being paid you will lie at some point. Everyone has a price
I’ll be honest… the L’Oréal age perfect foundation you love, I bought because usually what you recommend is what I like too. I used it and it would not stay on my face at all 😩 it would move around and around. I’ve gotten several other high end foundations that you’ve recommended and I’ve been loving ♥️ Like you said, I do stop myself at times because I’m a working mommy who goes to work 5 days a week, there is no need for 10 or more foundations in my collection. Right now I’m up to 3 of them but one is almost out haha! Thank you for making this video to remind me that I don’t need all the makeup 😂
Love that you mention how we have different skin types. I LOVE your channel and recommendations, but I am OILY. I need primers, I need powder, I need some matte. I can’t do the dewy. But I love how your skin looks and I try to emulate it with product when in reality my skin will do it naturally lol some days I have to tell myself “no tabby, you’re skin is already ‘glowy’ - remove from cart”
I often have such a hard time knowing what to actually buy when things go viral, especially since things go viral so often, because I feel like I get overwhelmed and don’t really know if something will actually work for my particular skin type (dry & sensitive) ☁️☁️☁️
☁️☁️☁️ 100% agree about Tom ford eyeshadows being not worth the price, but the Tom ford shade and illuminate cream contour duo in .5 is my favorite makeup item of all time.
I love this video! I completely agree and have learned to really pay attention to just a couple influencers who don’t do sponsored content. I don’t begrudge the hustle but of course if ur paid then the review may or may not be honest. Love ya
I think the rare beauty blush looks beautiful on you, I have it and do really enjoy it but my con with it is, I find it doesn’t last a full work day, it looks great for a few hours and disappears
☁️☁️☁️ I enjoyed this video. What you're saying: "does it really fit into your routine?" sorta reminds me of something my grandma used to say, "Is it a want or a need?" I'm influenced SOOOO often that most of my purchases ARE "wants" and then most are rarely used more rhan 5 or 6 times! #1- eyeshadow palettes. I have bought 3 or 4 and then used 1 or 2 shades in each, always a brown or grey shade. Dumb! Single shadows are all I NEED and YES, they definitely fit into my routine! I'm going to remember your question now every time I put something into my Sephora or Ulta cart.
Mixing bronzing drops in my foundation for when I’m self tanned is how I use it. Keeps me from having to buy so many different foundations. Plus, as the tan fades I just add less for the perfect match.
I definitely watch trusted influencers who recommend a product. You can definitely tell when a influencers is sponsored by a product and they use it. Then when they aren't sponsored you don't see them use the product as much. So that itself speaks for the product
☁️☁️☁️ I've realized I don't use primer much these days unless it's an eye primer for eyeshadow or if it's built onto my SPF (only "glowy" product I use is the Elf Whoa Glow and I'm switching to the matte one for summer)
The same thing you were saying about the UD foundation I did with the Rare Beauty blushes. I immediately added to cart bc it looked all gorgeous and people were excited. Luckily I waited and then finally was like “people are saying it’s like a highlighter….. you don’t wear or like highlighter!” 😂
I bought the Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk dupe from L'Oréal Nu Impertinent recommended my Nikki La Rose and it's my favourite lipstick, my favourite shade. I've never bought the same lipstick twice and repurchased that lipstick, love it. The fragrance smells like Blackcurrant and it gives a satin finish but looks even better with Maybelline Lifter Gloss in Moon on top
I’m much more interested in holy grails or dupes at this point in my life than trying anything viral. I already have too much makeup and I want what works, not what’s new. Bonus if it’s drugstore!❤
I haven’t tried and don’t plan to try the milk makeup cheek stain but I think it’s so popular because they say blush is the first to go! Just like how the benetint is still so popular! ☁️☁️☁️
It definitely is tricky to know who to trust. Everything/ a lot seems sponsored. I trust people when i have seen the influencer use the product in the past before the sponsored video vs. "I've loved this" or " this is one of my favorires," but we have never seen this item before on their platform. (P.S. I think you do a great job, and you are always upfront about sponsored content.) The primer you are remembering was Origins. It was the willowherb matte primer...it was the most unique foaming primer.
⛅️🌧️⛈️🌪️ Of course we stay to the end! I added an emoji because we had bad storms and a tornado roll through at 4am this morning. Trends and viral stuff is just marketing. I miss when products were good because they were good and not because they were a dupe. Love these chatty videos!
Loved this video, especially hearing your take on all the 'viral'/TikTok trends - I really love to hear products you *wouldn't* recommend, as much as those you would! It can get so overwhelming as a consumer these days, so it's a good reminder that we really don't need to buy every hot new product
I think the milk jelly tint is a user error issue that the brand hasn’t addressed. When you first use it there is a lot of pigment and its messy but you had to pass that first layer and then is just a cheek tint, super long-wearing and subtle. Its like when you get a baked blush, you need to scratch that first layer.
Sometimes, I am absolutely stunned at the collective naivete of the beauty community. the following should be widely known and obvious: 1) A youtuber who is sponsored cannot be trusted on their opinion. example: anyone saying "wow, are you seeing this? I cant believe this! OMG!" It's kind of obvious. 2) On-line reviews, especially close to a new launch, are sponsored. this is where brands are putting their marketing efforts in lieu of old fashioned ads. 3) Guaranteed, Sephora has deals with brands to promote them on-line.
☁️🌥️☁️ I actually didn’t realize the face bond was matte, but I am glad I got it. I quite like it. Not sure I would have if I had noticed that! 😬 I didn’t find it too matte, but I figured it might be nice for summer. Guess we will see how it works! Thanks for being a voice of reason, though. I like the idea of thinking, “will this fit into my routine/collection” before buying. Thank you!
🌤️⛅️🌥️ 57 year old here. Asked Sephora sales associate if the UD Face Bond makeup was suitable for mature skin. I had forgotten my readers that day. 👵🏻 She said yes! I bought it. It aged me ten or more years. It has a lot of alcohol in it and made my face look so dry and showed wrinkles I didn’t know I had…even after a lot of usual prep beforehand. I tried again and had put it on my hand first to try to use less. It even made my hand look old. 😂 Probably looks great on younger skin and especially oily skin. Mine is normal. Great video, Jessica!
Tower 28 mascara. I bought it awhile ago but I was trying to get through others first. When I finally opened it it felt like it was dried out. Surprised it dried out not even opened. Or maybe it’s just not for me. Natasha Denona concealer I didn’t think was too special on me. I chose the huda one instead and I love it.
It makes sense when palette best sellers are all natural or basic shades. Because we all need to work these days and most people who wear makeup lean towards basics. We all generally prefer to look like the best version of ourselves. That being said there’s a push-pull on brands-customers. We love new things and want to try something new but half the time it is packaging and marketing of a trendy item. I am a fan of the industries for art and function but buying to keep up with trends isn’t healthy. Also it expires. People need to consider the cost-per-use and factor in their own skin/hair/ect types. I am not buying anything till I use up or see mold on my current stuff. I use it 3 times a week and have no need for more. I always have a running wish list but I know my connection to that item tends to fade. Play with the make up you have and play with the testers to get that experience. But if your collection doesn’t have a need for it wait it out till you forget, a sale or it can be a gift.
I'm always influenced to buy certain products by you and Taylor Wynn. I finally had to admit to myself that as much as I love you two, my skin type and color are not at all like either of you. Not only that, but some of your favs have been fails for me. I still watch you both alllll of the time, and I will continue to, but I don't usually buy things you two suggest because I know they won't work for me. Took me a couple of years to figure this out! I still love you both though!
Same here. Jessica has a light complexion with cool undertones and prefer subtle makeup. I have warm undertones and dark hair and for the longest time, I would buy her recommendations and not understand why they didn't work for me. A RU-vidr that fits my coloring a little better is Emily Noel so I follow her recommendations more.
It would be interesting to talk about the impact of makeup and influence on females. For example, I always felt if I could buy expensive makeup I'd finally be pretty or be able to look as nice as an influencer, finally have that "it" factor. I feel like more than ever there's constant ads and commercials to try and sell products to consumers so that they can feel good about themselves when actually consuming so much of that content can make once feel worse. The reality it's not possible for most people to afford to have a multitude of mascaras and foundations to keep up, we can't always buy the new trending makeup. Love your videos and real talks!
More often than not, if it's "viral" or overhyped, I go the opposite direction. I don't think there's been a single time any of those products have worked out well enough to justify the purchase, both high end and drugstore.🤷🏻♀️
With the water jelly tint I actually love them. I apply it by putting my duo fiber brush directly on the stick and then onto the face. That way you have *some* time to blend it in. It definitely is more difficult to work with than regular blushes but it does last a really long time.
