Jordan Dennis There’s another quote Arthur says when he collects the debt from Edith Downes. I think it was, “I hope it’s hot and terrible, Mrs. Downes. Or else I’ll feel like I’ve been sold a false set of bills.”
@@Chuked That's unfortunate, but I know what you mean. It's pretty sad that Bethesda couldn't optimize the game better. There's been quite a few times where I've been immersed in the game and really enjoying it and the next thing you know it crashes. Really frustrating when that happens with any game.
Authors last words in All 4 endings High honor: 1:I tried, in the end I did 2:Inside your dead Low Honor: 1:Damn us both! 2:You let him damn us all Dutch.
I was waiting for this. You key him damn us all is still a very cool one though. Even though that's the worst ending. Its very hard to know which ending is worse. Getting shot and seeing his dead body like that or a dead body with a knife in his Back and his head being on the ground.
Marius Boss I think it’s worse that the knife was in his back because that’s one of the two endings you get when you go back for the money, which in my opinion, ruins the entire point of the game.
even if you're a non believer (atheist) like Arthur. you need to prepare to be forgotten forever or to be remembered as a sour memory by people you know.
@@johnnyford4914 the game encourages you to play that way. I mean it doesn't make much sense for Arthur to go out of his way to help Charles, John, Sadie... etc if he's low honor. Sometimes I wish the game gave you more control over the story and make the game vastly different depending on your moral choices. Like give you the player the choice of picking one of both sides in the gang for example. But then again, that would impact the beautiful story the game has to offer. It is very clear that high honor Arthur is the "canon" story, the game rewards you with key missions (low honor doesn't tie up with the first game with Sister Calderon for example) and punishes you if you are low honor. I mean the low honor endings are more brutal for Arthur in his final moments. It is undeniable the game encourages you to be a psycho GTA style in the first chapters but be morally good at the end, the TB diagnosis being the major turning point. The game literally has the word "redemption" in the title after all.
Agreed. I remember my mouth hanging open for an entire minute as this started playing in the background, with tears of hatred for Micah rolling down my cheek. This ending hit hard
In the high honor version, it has almost a heavenly feeling with multiple voices and a more calming musical score, but in this one theres only one voice, and the music score is quieter, almost as a "welcome to hell" song
this will basically go lost in the comments, but listening to the differences between high and low honor versions made me understand what the fundamental differences are between the two version. In the high honor version, you can feel sympathy, a sadness for a man who, while doing bad, had good inside of him. Arthur wasn't a good man, or even a great man, but he did have a heart that cared for others, but was quick and deadly to those who went against him and the gang. A man who, when told he was going to die, depending on how you played him, went with the high honor route at the end, trying to make up for all the bad he's done in his life, and you can see that when you meet the nun at the station at emerald ranch. He knows he's done bad, but he's wise and kind enough to recognize it and be ashamed, one of the biggest redeeming features for anyone who wants to change and be better. The low honor version of the song lacks that sympathy for a man who did wrong. It's the kind of song that would play when you go against an enemy in a game, say a rival who you could never redeem, a person who always was greedy and selfish. But they had a strength to stick by their beliefs, which allowed them to continue on a dark path. A path that lead to their death, but they knew it would be their downfall, but they continue on it nonetheless. You as the Hero would still respect him as an admirable and strong enemy who while facing their defeat, would accept that they lost, that their strength gained from their bad habits, was not as the strength you gained through compassion as a high honor person. You would close their eyes, grant them rest, but you would not shed tears for this fallen foe. Basically, the differences between the two if you skipped all that or were confused, is in high honor, to make it a simple metaphor, if you fought Arthur (who had high honor) you would feel bad for killing him since while he was a criminal through and through, he had a code that he followed, while if you fought Arthur (with low honor) he would be a admirable enemy who would accept his defeat when he knew it was over with, but you would not feel bad for killing a him, but only respect for recognizing the path he walked on. This is just my 2 cents on the ideas behind the music, but I do think that they're close to the emotions conveyed through the music
@@deathrager2404 i didnt copy anything, i just posted what i felt cuz i kept reading comments about how they were hearing how high honor sounded like heaven and angels, while low honor was hell and stuff, which didnt sound like what i was hearing and thinking of. If someone has a similar comment out of the 7 billion people on earth, with over 3 billion of them on youtube, i wouldnt be surprised, but to say i copied is just rude when i never expected anyone to find this comment
@@kixakii436 nah, I'd say rdr1 ends pretty satisfyingly, Jack finally got to take revenge on one of the men who was ruining his life since the day he was born.
“I’ve finally found peace and lived a great life!” The guy you always hated: “You’re not better than me!” *low honor theme starts playing* Me: “...Fuck”
I thought the same thing. By that point I’m like “what, you go back for the money and then what?”. In going with John I hoped Arthur might live because by this point things weren’t looking too good but unfortunately that’s not how it turned out 😒
Eric Booth I didn’t hesitate to go with John. What did Arthur have at that point? A week at best? What would he use that money for? Nah I’m dead and just borrowing time at that point. Better to help John.
Maximilian Lagerholm Same here. By this point in the game I didn’t even realize his disease was near fatal I figured he would’ve lived years maybe escaped out west. I mean here I am sprinting full till through the forest accurately shooting everything but I’m supposed to be dying? Lmfao the only logical conclusion was John
Eric Booth Oh i knew that TB was fatal in 1899 so I had the slow burn of seeing him just die to it. And more so, making it worse by as you said, running through Forrest and shooting, being in the cold with rain. Compared to the doctors advice of “Relax somewhere warm and dry” So I was pretty sure I was never going to make it out alive as Arthur.
High honor: The deer (Arthur) escapes from the wolf (Micah) while critically injured and dies in peace. Low honor: The deer (Arthur) fails to escape and becomes food for the wolf. (Micah) American Venom ending: The eagle (John) tears the rat (Micah) apart. In revenge for the deer. (Arthur)
you have to earn that right. have you greeted 50 people in the past 2 hours? if not, I'd start right now. jokes aside, live a high honor life. don't be a Micah.
The rat is Micah reincarnated. If it were an actual rat, it would’ve died from the frigid temperatures. Just like the Low Honor version of Arthur is an invincible Coyote. And I think there’s an Eagle for if Arthur had Neutral Honor which instantly flies away if you get too close. It’s also impossible to kill the Eagle because it’s Arthur.
It's true, when I listen to music, I don't want it to be loud. I want it to be like this. It has a better feel and makes it sadder because it was played when Arthur died.
Yep, the Outlaws were indeed filthy and their lifestyle was as warped as hell. Without a moral compass or any sense of higher authority, they drifted into a chaotic existence, driven by selfish desires and unchecked impulses. Of course the world doesn’t want them anymore! I mean, If the outlaws rejected the rules and laws set by the government, they should have at least adhered to the divine laws given by the Almighty God. But oh wait… they weren’t even religious. HELL is where they are.
You had a chance. You could've made yourself a better man. But still you persisted until the very end. And now you've damned yourself. Prepare for what's ahead. Cause here, you will never rest.
Actually no you can't, a half-hour of fishing and setting everything back did almost nothing to my somewhat low honor. The honor system failed, it doesn't let you have a lot of fun. I chose every good choice and JUST passed with full honor and a half-hour of fishing because I like to have fun in the game
@@taxevasion0336 Well have fun but prepare for the bad ending, having fun in the game is basically murdering everyone and you want a good ending for that ? If you’re really just focused on having fun then why bother with the ending ?
The Boomer Destroyer of Humor actually the honor depends on how far you progressed into the game, you won’t be able to have the highest or lowest honor until near endgame
*"You're Not Better Than Me, Morgan"* - Micah Bell III *"Whatever You Say, You Fool"* - Arthur Morgan *"Damn You..."* - Micah Bell III *"Damn Us Both!"* - Arthur Morgan *Gunshot* *"Hahahaha!"* - Micah Bell III *Micah Walks Towards Arthur, Holding a Knife* *Looking Like Michael Myers* *"Well... I Must Say Arthur... It's Been a Lotta Fun"* - Micah Bell III
Yeah, but Micah killing Arthur definitely felt like a defeat for us as he died in a brutal way, whereas in the high honor ending, it was both sad and good as Arthur gets to die in peace while getting to admire the sunshine.
@@_vivek10_ That's not defeat bro you heard Arthur scream before he died right it's a symbol of Arthur's honor and bravery is always there either high or low honor
Arthur going for the money low honor is him being greedy even though he knows he aint gonna make it putting him in the conversation instead of putting him out like in high honor low honor going with john is him asking for forgivness for the terrible stuff you the player has done since you never changed your outlawish ways when you got tb so you let yourself down
What was the point of Micah trying to kill Arthur? Oh, right, it was because Arthur was helping John and his family escape. Micah was trying to tear the gang apart.
RDR2 ain't no legendary or a masterpiece game. It's a piece Art that will never be painted again. It's buried in the history of gaming and it had a legend that stole our hearts. RIP Arthur Morgan, you and the others will be missed.
It’s way more haunting, I prefer high honor ending cause, well duh, but I’ll never forget how empty I felt on my first completion when Arthur got shot and this played…
All I want to say is I killed a lot of folk I really did but, always loved my horse and treated him like a good boah I may be bad and I am happy about that at least I died unshakened
I went on a Robbing spree here on my first play through in Saint Denis... Got holed up inside the gunsmith and the Feds were coming in fast (2nd chapter...i did alot of exploreing) so I shot my way out... My horse came in... Took a bullet for me, and I couldn't get to her in time to revive her before I was shot dead, after having broken from cover in a blind rage. When the loading screen passed and my dear horse had been replaced... I had a gut reaction.
Really cool how this version features a growly bass and the high honor version has a soaring tenor. When I usually think of Rockstar it’s not usually the music that they knock out the park (most prominently anyway) but dang, they sure did.
High Honor: *you feel the warmth of the sun rising up as you draw your last breaths* Low Honor: *you feel the cold of the stone below you, you're dead before the sun comes up*
This version of the song really makes you feel the impact if you played the game with low honor. Very powerful, I'd say even more goosebumps than the other version sometimes.
High Honor: You chose to make the right choices for the people and tried at the end. So rest and come home. Low Honor: Your death is in someone’s hands for the life you lived and think of the code you had. Time to face the consequences of your actions.
Thing I notice between high and low honor version of this song is that high honor felt more angelic, also doesn't have a lead vocal. While low honor have a lead vocal with a menacing voice.
I can understand why because the high honor version has the higher pitch voices over the lower pitch and low honor has the lower voices over the higher voices
"Our time has pretty much passed" - Arthur "The price of freedom is steep" - Zack "It's called luck, and it will run out eventually" - Joel RIP all 3 of them, they're lost but not forgotten
"You guys mean everything to me!" - Bill Overbeck "Never thought it'd end like this, huh? Huh, Maria?" - Dominic Santiago "As long as I have breath in my body, my fate is my own." - Talion
This song reminds me of Spec Ops: The Line When Walker wakes up from the helicopter crash and walks through his own version of hell. That's what this song feels like, it feels like Arthur (low honor ending) is going through hell and can't do nothing but feel like things are going out of his hands, even though he had a choice (much like Walker) but it is too late for both of them. Welcome to Hell
The enter song is referencing this. People think that just because Red Dead Redemption is set in The Wild West that the protagonist wont die at the end because of the old saying, ‘Cowboys don’t die, they ride off into the sunset.’ That’s not the case here. Take both Arthur Morgan and John Marston for example. Arthur was a hardened Outlaw and Gunslinger, loyal to Dutch Van Der Linde, one of the most wanted Outlaws by the government. Arthur was loyal to Dutch all his life. He had a woman who loved him, but he turned her down for Dutch, he had a child that he wanted to raise, but his child died because of Arthur’s loyalty to Dutch. And no, Arthur didn’t sacrifice his son for his own life. He met a waitress named Eliza whom he had Issac (his son) with. Arthur was too loyal to Dutch to give up his life of crime and settle down with Eliza and Issac. Eliza knew what Arthur was, he didn’t try to hide it. But she accepted any help raising Issac that he could give. Every so often, Arthur would visit Eliza and Issac and stay with them for days at a time. One day, Arthur arrived at their house and saw 2 makeshift graves outside. He immediately knew what happened: They were robbed and killed for $10. Ever since that day, Arthur was strengthened by Eliza and Issac’s death. Their deaths made him question his loyalty to Dutch a little, but not enough to personally ask Dutch if he knew what he was doing. This is why Arthur was so mad at John when he abandoned Abigail, Jack, and the gang for an entire year. When John returned, everyone welcomed him back with opened arms except Arthur. Arthur never fully forgave John for doing what he did. However, when Arthur got diagnosed with Tuberculosis, he did everything in his power to redeem himself and make sure John, Abigail, and Jack could have the life he always wanted. Arthur’s dying wish was to safely get John, Abigail, and Jack out of the gang. He succeeded. Micah accepts defeat knowing John escaped to live a better life, and Arthur laid dead on that rock in Ambarino until sometime between 1899 and 1907 Charles Smith returned and gave him a proper burial above the Mysterious Hill Home. If Arthur had High Honor, his gravesite will be cleaned and polished with bright yellow flowers surrounding his wooden tombstone. However, if Arthur had Low Honor, his gravesite will not be clean and there will no flowers surrounding his wooden tombstone. The wording on his tomb will also be different. Now let’s move to John Marston. After 5 years of ,Irving in peace at Beecher’s Hope, Jack and Abigail were Kidnapped by Edgar Ross and the B.O.I. John had 2 options: Betray his former friends and hunt them down for the government, or be hanged for everything he did. John decided to betray his former gang and hunt them down. The gang members he had to capture dead or alive were: Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella, and Dutch Van Der Linde himself. John first finds bill camped out at Fort Mercer. However, Bill critically injures John and he is rescued by Bonnie MacFarlane. John he,ps to repay his debt by doing several things around MacFarlane’s Ranch. Such as: Herding cattle, killing wolves that are trying to eat their crops, rescuing Bonnie from Bill Williamson’s Bandits, etc. John is finally well enough to go hunt down Bill Williamson. With the help of Marshall Johnson and Nigel West Dickens, he infiltrates Fort Mercer only to find out that Bill isn’t there. The crew take one of Bill’s Bandits hostage and forces him to tell them where Bill fled to. Fearing for his life, the bandit tells them that Bill Williamson fled to Nuevo Paraiso, Mexico, possibly teaming up with Javier Escuella, another gang member that John has to hunt down. With the help of the U.S. Government, John is allowed to cross the border into Mexico. John meets up with Captain De Santa, who takes him to a local village known as Escalera, where one of the Mexican Army’s most high ranking generals live. His name is Colonel Allende. Colonel Allende works under the orders of the leader of Mexico, a man only referred to as Sanchez. Knowing that John is there to capture Bill William and Javier Escuella, the government hides them from John. Colonel Allende would’ve had John killed when he first told him about Bill and Javier, but he decided to take advantage of John and tell him that, “I’m working on tracking them down, in the meantime, I want you to help me against some men who are trying to tear down the Mexican Government.” John is being blackmailed and he doesn’t even know it. Allende keeps giving him work with the promise of locating Bill and Javier. Captain De Santa was also involved in this scheme. Once Colonel Allende has no more work for John, he orders De Santa to convince John that the government has captured both Bill and Javier and that they are in a church. John questions the location but doesn’t question it if he’s closer to setting his family free. Once John is lured in, De Santa knocks him unconscious and ties him up. John wakes up to find out that Captain De Santa and Colonel Allende ‘betrayed’ him and that he was going to be killed. However, Abraham Reyes, the leader of the Mexican Revolution, rescues John. Reyes understands that John killed his men, but he also understands that John was given false hope, so he takes John under his wing. Being skeptic that since he killed Reyes’ men, he was going to eventually kill him. However, he never did this. Reyes’ men tracked down Bill and Javier like he promised and they were promptly either arrested or killed. Reyes even offers John the honors of killing De Santa, though John lets Reyes’ men finish him off. Abraham Reyes promptly says to John that he can visit Mexico anytime he wants to and stay there as long as he wants. John accepts his offer, but returns to America on the orders of the B.O.I who apparently had tracked down a lead on Dutch’s whereabouts, saying that he’s back in West Elizabeth. John Marston, Edgar Ross, the B.O.I, and the U.S. Army make a plan to capture Dutch dead or alive. They weaken Dutch’s strike force of Native Americans by ,ruling them into Blackwater. Eventually, Dutch robs the First National Bank in Blackwater, which the government promptly sets up an ambush to capture Dutch. However, the ambush doesn’t go to plan and Dutch kills an innocent woman. The government track down Dutch to Cochinay, a Native American camp ground that Dutch transformed into a fortress. John aids the government in breaking into the fort when a bunch of U.S. Soldiers are severely injured because of the blast radius from some dynamite. John goes to face Dutch alone, where Dutch exclaims that he's disappointed in John for aiding the government, after all Dutch has taught him. John tries to make Dutch understand that it was either his life, or Dutch’s. Dutch tells him that he always had a choice and that he was too blind to see that. Dutch gets on a Browning Gun where he attempts to gun down John. John shoots dynamite crates near the Browning gun that start a fire. Dutch tries to escape into the caves of Cochinay, but John catches up with him. When John has Dutch cornered, Dutch admits to John how all his life he’s fought for something that can’t be changed. John tells him to give up, but he says he can’t. He promptly tells John that their time has passed and then commits suicide by falling off the mountain. Edgar Ross later shoots Dutch using John’s Revolver. A few hours later, Edgar Ross, the B.O.I, and the U.S. Army infiltrate Beecher’s Hope to kill John. Knowing that John won’t make it out alive, he sacrifices himself to Edgar Ross and lets his family escape. A few years later, Abigail has died and Jack has avenged the entire gang by killing Edgar Ross. And that is how Red Dead Redemption is beyond your typical cowboy in The Wild West game.
i find this version of the song more emotional as i can picture arthur dying with this slow dark tune and the song fits him so perfectly, everything from the lyrics to the instruments and the melody, truly amazing
@@erikallen3804 No, he doesn't. There's only special dialogue if you ho for the money with good honour. Otherwise; it's just the same as everything else.
Even the low honor sounds just as sad this game was such a masterpiece I cant even begin begin to explain how detailed and realistic this game was. I loved this great experience
its really unsettling to hear this, i never heard it in game because i always keep an honor in the gray white, but damn this really has an unsettling "good job. welcome to hell you bastard." feeling to it, the deeper voices, the deeper pitch instrumental, damn the instrumental did it, listen to it closely; it gives you that broken record feeling of your honor and integrity being broken you feel me?
Arthur wasn’t a saint. But he wasn’t a sinner, either. But he did try to do the right thing after being diagnosed with Tuberculosis if the High Honor Ending is canon.
I generally prefer the high honor path for Arthur almost entirely for most things in the game. Except for one thing, the low honor variant of “Stand Unshaken”. It just perfectly accompanies the eerie feeling of death and how no matter how you played Arthur, he still was a killer and criminal to some extent. The high honor version seems almost a bit too romantic while this seems perfectly lowkey and eerie. Something about that single voice singing compared to a chorus is something that helps this variant of the song give me goosebumps
The major difference between low and high honor in terms of music is that the light beautiful choir is more prominent in the high honor version with more honorable beautiful tune. Low honor has that low rough singing man singing like he drags you to hell as you hear the angelic choir get quieter signaling the gates of heaven have closed you out as you're dropped into the maw of hell.
With the high honor ending is like “you’ve redeemed yourself, welcome to heaven” and low honor is like “you had a chance to redeem yourself, you failed, welcome to hell” that type of vibe
this, just music entirely can portray a scene. this just its just the sounds of the gates to hell, someone who has done nothing in their life but the wrong (low honor, and other things ect) i love Woody Jackson
I dont know why but this helped control my emotions after my dogs passing he died as a 12 year old dog and i grew up with him i miss his presence so much.
Yeah I know what you mean, I was diagnosed with cancer and shortly after I got this game. I would definitely say that rdr2 helped me beat it. Sorry for your loss.
One of the most memorable moments in my video game playing history was when Arthur returns from the island and this song is playing on the journey home. I fukin love this game!
It’s crazy how different the two versions are despite being the same song. Like the High Honor version has a more heroic overtone with more overture and vocalization, whereas the Low Honor version has a more ominous and dark overtone with more bass, more minor chords, and less vocalization
I love the entirely different feel these covers give off High Honor is like Angels are signing their choir for Arthur's (Subjectively) Redeemed soul Low Honor sounds cursed, a fitting ending for your damned soul. And at the end of your life, you saw the pearly gates were closing, and that singing wasn't an Angelic Choir, this is the Devil and his Demons. Welcome to hell Arthur Morgan, you kept us waiting
