I live in Terrell Texas zone 8b close to Dallas and this is our rainy season we have had 9"1/2 of ran in 2 1/2 weeks. All good things come to an end sometime in June it stops raining and doesn't start raining again till September for the last two years . I've gone 3 1/2 months without rain . Hopefully things will be different this year.🤞

I'm in Tampa, FL with St Aug. We have not got any rain since Mid April and parts of my yard are really struggling. I was not sure if it was fungus or root rot. After watching your lawn I feel better. Your lawn was looking very good till recently. I would assume my yard is struggling with stress. May is our driest month and the heat is rising, our summer rains start around last week May or June 1st.

I'm a landscape contractor in Central California and just happened to see your video. I understand SC and CA will be completely different climates/grass types/best methods of what you are trying to achieve here, so take my comments as subjective not law. First - the root zone for lawns are typically 4 - 6 inches. The lack of water (browning areas especially on higher elevations) is the cause. I understand you are trying to conserve water either for cost or environmental reasons but do consider an underground drip system that can supplement water to those troubled areas at least. Irrigating at the root zone will be more efficient than overhead watering. Look up Netafim tubing or Hunter HDL tubing (or Hunter ECO-MAT if you can swing the cost of the best product possible). Ideally (for my area) an irrigation system (either sub-surface or overhead sprays/rotors) is necessary for lawns to survive here. We won't install sod/seed without irrigation - period. OH, the Fusilade II product you used (last year?) to kill the Bermuda grass is a selective herbicide that targets monocot plants - Kentucky Bluegrass included but does no harm to dicot - woody/branched plants (for an extremely poor definition lol). We use Fusilade to eradicate Bermuda grass that grows in groundcover for example. The chemical will only affect the monocot grass, not the dicot groundcover even when it has been sprayed. Best of luck!

I'm in Nashville. We have had some high 80s almost 90s here in April/May be then we had a late frost in April and now lots of rain storms coming through this week. We needed the rain. My grass also was feeling some early heat stress. Earlier than usual for sure. Glad we got lots of rain this week but praying no crazy storms too. We have tornado weather in the Spring. Yuck! Glad you also finally got some rain. My grass looks the best it has ever looked this year so I am hoping to keep it up.

Thank you for your channel and I enjoy your videos. Here comes a truth that you probably know ....... For a near bulletproof beautiful lawn, you need irrigation ... period. You spare no expense on product yet leave off the most important part. If price is an issue, install in stages with the well first to get off city water then come with the sprinkler system later. You will never manage heat without it. Your lawn is telling you this right now. There is probably an aquifer under your house right now and you don't know it. Just saying out loud what you already know and look forward to more videos when you can make it rain when you need it. ........ ;-)

I probably don't live too far from you. How is the lawn doing after that insane amount of rain this weekend? My GCI spreader elite fescue is looking like a green shag carpet right now. It was showing signs of heat stress last week. For your berm in the backyard, I would probably spread a nice layer of engineered topsoil (clay, sand, compost mix) on that entire berm in the fall and reseed. Some humichar would probably be beneficial there as well. You could put that out now to give it more time to work into the soil.

I'm in the North GA area and getting rain at least once a week so far in the past month. Heat has been slowly going up and I'm starting to notice some dry spots but yard is still hanging on (non-irrigated). Most of mine are due to compaction but I have 10 yards of soil to spread and level out some low areas. I got a big strip along the road that struggles every summer like yours so I plan on doing a mini reno along that strip with a good layer of top soil. I remember seeing an old video of you addressing some leveling issues... how did you go about that?

I've always had a 20'x20' square in my yard that would turn completely brown every summer. I rented a track hoe and found a 10" thick square slab of concrete underneath. Found out my yard used to be pasture for cattle. I guess it was for a feeder. You never know what's under the dirt.

I definitely needed rain in Concord, NC, but it wasn’t forecast to come until overnight Friday and it came before I could get off work, mowed, and apply products I needed watered in. Now I have grass that is way too tall in some areas and likely can’t mow until at least late Wednesday if the rain does end today (Monday). Also have areas cot fungus (rust) I need to treat. Hope your lawn has recovered with the rain Mr. Ferguson. I broke down and watered the front yard Friday morning because of lawn stress and high temps with rain not forecast until overnight. Then it started raining hard in the afternoon and rained until late Sunday morning for the most part.

South Central Virginia right on the NC border. It's been extremely dry so I have been watering for about 3-4 weeks now, as soon as I noticed the beginnings of heat stress. There are areas in our lawn that border the street and they are usually the first to suffer from the heat. In addition to a regular watering cycle (and you are right when you point out how expensive this can become) I supplement those areas with extra water left over in buckets from things like car washes and also water those areas more frequently. I am fortunate enough to have a sprinkler system which at least reduces the labor required to water 12,000 square feet. But it's an annual battle with cool season grasses. We just received about an inch and a half of rain over the last few days and that should help. But I need to go ahead and get the fungicide down very soon. By the way, it looks like Velocity PM is working for me. It's always something. Keep at it. Geesus.

Mr Ferguson I can understand your frustration after all the hard work you put into your lawn. I had mentioned a month or so in the comments that I thought you were pushing your lawn too early with fertilizer. I know you disagreed with me then and probably still do lolo. I know the heat and lack of rain has been bad down south ( I live in NJ) and I have no documentation that my theory is correct but I still feel pushing a lawn too early before it's ready MAY contribute to your issue. Also I noticed your lawn that's the worst is by the shrubs with a slight hill. I found that on my lawn that has a slight incline is the first to show stress because the water runs off and doesn't soak in as well as the flat areas. Love your channel and enjoy watching for your tips. All the best! Anthony
@dalewiley9208
@dalewiley9208 2 месяца назад
So when do you think would be the "right" time to "push fertilizer" and are you suggesting that is the primary cause of his lawn's heat stress?
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn 2 месяца назад
Hey Anthony thanks for watching man. I honestly don't believe N has anything to do with this heat stress at all. I have used less N this year than any year previously. I agree with the banks, water run off can cause more stressed out areas, but only issue with that theory is that (as I showed) flat areas are just as stressed out. I will never say "Im right you are wrong", but I do believe these areas I showed simply have more obstacles in the soil than other areas, and stress out first and the worst. It's just lawn care, and there will always be something to do, complain about, or scratch my head on! Thanks man!

@@dalewiley9208 Again, I have no literature to backup my claim. I think Mr Ferguson started fertilizing in March. All areas of the US are different as to weather. I personally would wait till the grass starts coming out of dormancy and less chances of any freezing. Again, just my personal feelings. Mr Ferguson did and will have a beautiful lawn once the rains appear again.

@@AAtta-3286Well opinions without supporting facts are pretty much worthless in my book. Warm weather brought grass out of dormancy early in this part of the country. That was followed by several nights of freezing weather. I also fertilized in March but I have been watering for 3-4 weeks. This fact is probably why my lawn is not showing signs of severe stress as we see in Mr. Ferguson’s yard.

@fyns9427
@fyns9427 2 месяца назад
Don't know where you are located or what type of grass you have, but 1 lb of N in the spring seems excessive. The goal in spring should be to let your grass root develope to strengthen itself for the summer. Most of the N should come in the fall time in order to push growth and come out of winter looking strong.
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn 2 месяца назад
It depends really. If your temps are holding in the 60's and 70's for the foreseeable future, have at it. If your late and temps are on the rise into 80's, I'd back down to maybe 3/4. In the end, do what you feel you wanna do! If you planted this spring, I'd say go a little heavy to push those roots to survive summer, but just be weather watching so you don't go too strong and the heat and fert starts hurting the plant.
