Mayan Ruins of Tulum, an Archaeological Site in Tulum, Mexico. Tulum is about 45 minutes by car south of Playa del Carmen and 90 minutes south of Cancun. The entrance fee to see the Mayan Ruins is 35-40 pesos (video cameras are an extra 30 pesos), and the hours of operation are daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can also book an express tour to the Mayan Ruins with your travel agency at the Barcelo Maya Grand (Hotel we stayed at) for $60 per person, which includes the entrance fee, express transportation from the hotel to the archaeological site, and transportation back to the hotel. You'll arrive at the Tulum Archaeological Site around 9:30 a.m. and should be back at your hotel by 1:30 p.m., avoiding most of the crowds who arrive after 11:00 a.m. If you want to make a full day of it, combine the Mayan Ruins with a visit to the Cenote, which usually includes lunch at a local restaurant. To summarize, if you are staying in the area and are bored with your hotel, this is an excursion you should try.
