Got one last week, it's the best sounding cowbell I've ever heard. Super mellow, beautiful tone. My guitarist and bass player both noticed how good it sounds. That's saying something.

You can pick up the as many of the same exact model of any bell and they will all have slight differences. You literally have to play each one to see which one has the sound you are looking for. I have a timbale set up with three different size cowbells and every time I bought one I went to Guitar Center and played EVERY cowbell they had and picked the one that I personally thought had the sound I wanted. No cowbell is one size fits all. My smallest bell is a Meinle and my medium and largest one are Latin Percussion. As a matter of fact I've had a couple of session players offer to buy my largest LP cowbell because they like the sound so much. They both tried to buy the same model and agree that they just "dont sound the same". Another thing that makes a difference is the stick size and HOW and WHERE you hit the bell. As far as overtones a light sock inside can help with that. Roll the sock looser or tigher until you get the sound you want.

Can't choose between this one and a rock ridge rider... I like the sound of this one better but im afraid of hitting the thing too hard and then the ridge on it would be good to have... thoughts?

Overtone that available cow bells in the market provide takes away the pocket groove and becomes too prominent in terms of pitch. I will definitely get this cow bell now.
