I remember anticipating this episode because I knew Morgan Fairchild was going to be on, but I was pleasantly surprised when he was sitting in with the band. What a shocker! Miss you, Maynard.
I met Maynard Ferguson! What a great musician! He was a fabulous musician!! I just turned 60, Maynard was 61when this was being aired, so many years ago, when I was a little girl!
Maynard was 61 when this aired. Amazing playing even then. I wish Arsenio had actually interviewed him but it was great that he featured him as much as he did. Thank you very much for posting this!
Qué época maravilhosa onde os artistas famosos eram trompetistas, saxofonistas, etc; músicos com verdadeiro talento. Infelizmente não temos mais programas como esse nos dias atuais.
I got to see Maynard once, spring 1982, when he visited a high school in my area. I was playing in a band myself back then and we all went. He was a great guy that did thses little shows just to promote his brand of stratospheric jazz. The other band members were also damn good. I don't know how long it will be before another Maynard comes along.
Ed, the answer in my opinion is never. Todays modern day trumpet players can probably play just as high & improve just as well if not better but they'll only be one Maynard, Harry James, Louie, Doc..if you catch my drift. These were the original innovators/influencers and fathers of the instrument w/personalities to fit.
Terri Lynne Carrington burning up the groove on the drums. Her work with Pattitucci and Herbie are some of her many great works and my personal favorites.
Lighten up guys, i was a senior in high school when this aired and back then, people just took it as Arsenio being a comedian, and maynard replying in kind. Times were different back then, no one would even question it and just like how maynard took it, as a joke & appreciated Arsenio for letting him be on his show. But times are very different now along with the world we live. There was no social justice warrior movement & woke standards back then. I doubt very much that Arsenio if he still had his show, nor any modern day comedian talk show host would make the same joke.
@@richardhertz749 Sir I totally agree with you. And I was not offended at all by Arsenio Hall. But that is the absurdity of all the bullshit goin on. Your saying that even over the last few decades things were different while what people did and said centuries ago we wanna hold them accountable even though that was the social norm. Cancelling Jefferson and Washington? And books? It's all bs man! It has to stop. People are getting called out for wearing halloween costumes 30 years ago. Get a backbone and stop being offended by every little damn thing!
@@joeheid4757 Yep we are 100 percent on the same page. With that said, lets go to Allen Vizzutti's tune "Nine Black riders," which he did in the late 80's and ask him to re name it. lol
