Pusifer - Money Shot *really* reminds me of this first album for some reason. It does more for me than the other APC albums. ...and I love Mer De Noms. One of my favourite albums of all times. It's probably the album I've listened to mostly overall.

If I do it with false chords it’s possible if I’m careful with breath control. I played this song with some guys and I kept trying to get the guitarist to do the second part but it was a no-go. Took me practicing about 9 months nearly every day to be able to do it. If you can do it with the tone Maynard/Billy can total respect to you.

Maynard is an atheist and is very critical of organized religion, this song being a great example.
@fromshadowtosubstance8327
@fromshadowtosubstance8327 Год назад
I have followed Maynard’s career for over 25 years-it could be said that he once had much animosity towards whatever form of Christianity he experienced growing up and witnessed from his mother’s church-but I have never heard him announce that he is an atheist. A person can be critical of religion without being an atheist, just as a person can be an ordained minister in Christendom and in fact be an atheist, as French priest Jean Meslier was a perfect example of. Meslier also sexually preyed upon servants, which is another example that religion isn’t the issue, it’s men’s hearts. Christ didn’t make him abuse people, Meslier’s own wicked heart decided that.

Everything about this song is great though, especially the music video where it doesn't really show their faces at all and things like Lenchantin fixing her hair in the middle of the guitar solo really gives the feeling that they're just jamming in a garage

The thing that’s always awesome about an isolated Maynard is the weird textural stuff he does on certain lines that you CANNOT hear in the recording. Parabola is a great example: the first chorus “all this pain is an illuuuUUuuUusionnnnnn”. He does some weird note runs there that you can’t even pick up otherwise. He’s a master

I've found a really interesting way to actually get a similar duality of tones in my bass recordings by running mine through a solid state 8" regular guitar combo amp. I use some pretty basic passive jazz pickups on my 4 string and then run it straight into the amp with a rhythm channel and a tiny bit of gain on it. The lower strings immediately overdrive the speaker but the higher notes are able to stay crisp and well defined. I've kept my solid state combo amp specifically for recording bass parts because my primary instrument is guitar. But I run my guitar into an all tube Peavy 6505 head (with a tube screamer before the input) with a 15w 8ohm celestion greenback cab. It gives me the headspace on cleans but that speaker is phenomenal at riding the line for rhythm and then snapping into screaming distortion. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't really want to try and mic either amp up for a gig because it probably wouldn't maintain the same characteristics through a PA. But recording with both of those amps makes my life a LOT easier. I mean, they're not carrying nearly enough ass to play live like my old Mesa Road King, but I'm also not gigging at all anymore. I just record stuff for me and play for friends/family. But seeing the look on people's faces when I tell them that I literally record full songs in my basement with less than $3k in all of my gear (including guitars, amps, track recorders, effects, editing, and a full 5/6 piece acoustic drum kit.)
@insanejughead
@insanejughead Год назад
What is the 8" solid state amp that you use? I have an old Radio Shack 15W amp that I love for the same reason. I don't record music, but I like the sound of the higher bass notes through it.
@drewishaf
@drewishaf Год назад
@@insanejughead it's an older Orange Crush that has some mediocre digital effects built in. I found it for pretty cheap to use with headphones when the kids were asleep. I decided to see how the effects sounded with a bass one day and was shocked at how much more versatile it was for bass than it was for guitar. It's a really cool, cheap amp for my very limited use l ok l
