I have a Neptune MAH 4000 AWW. It is 20 yrs old and it has worked very well until recently the spin cycle started sounding like the proverbial jet taking off. I watched Don's 3 videos several time and a few other videos, and although I felt it was stretching my ability/strength, I rented the puller and bought the bearings and seal from Don. For me, the videos were spot on, not over simplified as is the case with so many other videos. I needed to buy a 3# mallet to remove the inner tub. My tub and bearings came out EXACTLY as the video looks (I was expecting sever rust, but I only had some rust, and I had enough strength to torque the wrench). The hardest part for me was replacing the boot clips around the rubber baffle thing, and putting everything else on the washer back together. (just a note: be sure you put the rubber thing in the same position or the metal clips will not line up correctly and the rubber thing will not line up to the openings it snaps into on the front panel). Job took me about 8-9 hrs. and the machine works perfectly. Not bad for a 67 yr. old woman!

After being a little bit intimidated about completing this job myself I found out that Don lived right over the river from me. he came over and help me do this job and we had it done in under 3 hours showing me step by step what an incredibly nice guy. thanks again Don

I have successfully replaced the bearings on my Maytag Neptune by following the detailed instructions in these videos. I highly suggest contacting the author of the videos to rent his bearing puller. The task of pulling the bearings is EXTREMELY difficult if they are rusted in place. A proper bearing puller setup would make the job so much simpler. Thank you for putting this video series together.

Thanks so much! I certainly couldn't have taken on a job like this without your excellent video. Kudos too to your camera person who actually managed to get the relevant details in view.

I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for the video, and not filling it full of useless jargon. You were very to the point and that was perfect! Being on a tight budget around the end of the year, I was able to order my parts and watch your video....many times, and complete a possibly costly job. Thank you again for taking the time to have the video made, now my 5 year old can have clean clothes again...lol.

Thank you very much. I had total success! My wife and four teenagers will not miss the loud sound it made due to the shot bearings. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Great video!! Didn't wast time with superfluous and unneeded information. Your video is better (in my opinion) than the service manual. It was even edited in a way that made sense. I feel confident in my ability to replace the bearings now. Did not feel that way before I watched your videos. Great job!!! Thanks. Wally Gordon

This is an outstanding video series. Thank you for posting it. Rather than using the removal/installation tool you used, I used 2 pieces of 1/4" plate steel (4 1/2" x 4 1/2") with a 1/2" hole in the middle, the old bearings, and a 9" piece of all thread to install my new bearings. I also used collet bushings from my dovetail machine for my router to center the spacer on the all thread. The o/d on the bushings is exactly the same diameter as the I/D of the spacer. It worked like a champ. It wasn't as smooth as your install, but worked on the similar concept, drawing the bearings into position. I wish more videos were as comprehensive as yours.

Completed this repair employing the tools demonstrated here and with a HUGE assist from the gentleman, himself. Quick delivery of the tools, a fraction of the cost of the "Tony Tool", patient and astute; direct consult... Super deal!

Thank for the video. Today, I replaced front and rear bearings on my Maytag Neptune 6500 washer. Believe it or not, it took 8 hours to complete. I didn't have a bearing puller, so I had to improvise. My wife is now a happy camper.

@@NikkFlo Same. Mine just blew completely. Tub dropped and now rests on the bottom part of the door. Guessing we blew all the bearings. 15 yr old washer, not sure what my next steps will be.

This guy is great. I drove 60 miles to meet him, and we did this job in the rain, in about two hours. Five Star repair, the washer is running like new. After meeting Don I can say he knows his stuff. Thanks, Rick Riddle in PT

Excellent videos !! Great details.. my front bearing was so locked in that I broke my puller.. so I got a nice new kit out of the job too !! $100 for the bearings and the new puller set , I'll take that any day. The machine is quiet again like the day we bought it. Thanks for the videos

Amazing tutorial, check! Excellent step-by-step with every concomitant detail covered. Only Issue I had was putting the new bearings in. Just wouldn't go even through the housing was clean, smooth and bright. Had to ream a bit to squeeze them in. Possibly the Chinese-made replacement bearings were slightly off in O.D.?

excellent video to save 800.00 for a new washer. I broke my spacer by attempting to center it after both new bearings were seated into their groove and strongly believe that the removed spacer will not effect the performance because both bearings cannot move any closer together than their setting will allow anyway. My Neptune 4000 works excellent without the spacer replaced back into it. This video is very accurate and competent: thank you very sincerely for saving me 100's compared to a 60.00 OEM whirlpool bearing replacement kit. I cannot believe that the local repair company attempted to charge me 1050.00 for complete new tub replacement when these bearings are totally replaceable.

This is a great disassembly video and thanks for posting it. I am putting one back together now and found I had bypassed s few steps where you remove the boot from the part where it fastens around the front assembly. These are great washing machines and I have two of them now plus one for parts.

My biggest tip for everyone here is to PLEASE buy high quality bearings. I replaced them with what I just assumed to be okay bearings and within just a few months they rusted apart. I continue to keep this washer because it washes so well, probably even better than my expensive new Electrolux and is so much easier to repair and take apart than the new washers.

Thank you for sharing your expertise! Was able to successfully R&R my noisy bearings. My bearing seal kit contained the old style (like mine that failed and destroyed the front bearing) and the new style with the o-ring. With no instructions in the kit, I went with the same old crappy seal. If they were interchangeable why would the give you both seals? Thanks again !

Great vid, but I was more interested in why Harrison Ford was taking one apart! 6 screws & 3 nuts later and I took the drum off for deep cleaning.

hello xtremskier07! My name is Julio César, I would like to know if you can help me, with the order of making the board of the MAYTAG MD7500 dryer, it is similar to the washer in the video, but my interest is in the dryer, I am only interested in knowing where they go Connected 3 wires that I can't identify as they brought me the harness totally disconnected from the dash. Thank you for your attention and help!

Nice job! Question: where do you get a tool package. I do work on Maytag Neptunes and doing the old smash and bang with large sockets and pipes seems way ridiculous after seeing your videos

Thanks for a great video. Shows very well the disassembly. Q: I had metal shavings on the rear of the drum behind the large wheel - tucked into the area at the 12o'clock position near the little hole that is visible @7:22. Is that coming from the bearings or somewhere else I should concern myself with?

Any tricks to get the tub out once the seal is loose? It feels like the gear tapers out a sight bit. I can get the tub to move 3/4 inch, but not the last 1/4. Suggestions on how to pry the tub out? Thanks!

Great video. I want to DIY my bearing problem on my Neptune, but I can not get the specification from Maytag, because I must buy the tub (940 $ can). Can you give me the size of the two bearings ? Thank you.

Nice video, Tnx. I think the brushes between tub and drum was meant somehow to act like a barrier preventing small items pulled under the drum. Any idea?

And what’s weird is only the older models have them I believe. My MAH7500 never had them. Don’t really know the purpose.

A friend's advice: This is a serious job. Do NOT perform this repair if you are not experienced with mechanics. I consider myself a very good handyman and this job was a hard one. Some advices: 1 - Do not expect to terminate that job in a single night. 2 - YO WILL NEED the bearing puller !!! The bearings are really fitted in the aluminum housing. 3 - You will need the plastic cup to install the new rubber seal. 4 - Take your time to reinstall the spring clips around the tub.
@ve2zzz
@ve2zzz 11 лет назад
5 - Take pitures of the machine during disassembly. You won't regret it.

Ok. Great job. I did this and still my washer will not spin up the speed for it to dry. The machine tumbles, but at every next selection on the time it stops. Again it would tumble back and forth and then for the next selection it stops. I have checked the wax motor and switches and still nothing works. I jumped out the switch that cause it to spin to top speed and nothing happens. Still the same. I need help please someone.

Probably your unbalanced circuit.3 switches normally closed loop mounted on outer tub. They are shown on right side of schematic . Can ohm out for continuity [static /unplugged ]. Wires a re subject to vibration and can break.

Finished the bearing and seal replacement with parts tools provide by Don W. Took 3 hours but I used an air wrench with the bearing puller. You can reach Don through eBay at www.ebay.com/sch/dwonus5/m.html?_jsoff=1

@donwonus860
@donwonus860 10 лет назад
Haven't lost any myself , talking about sheet metal parts? Good tip to use latex gloves though. The spring and wire holding boot to tub cover can be bit of pain [ only need to remove that to change boot ] Soaking boot in gal bleach overnight will remove mildew, be careful though safety glasses and rubber gloves for that mandatory. 2 pliars , preferably mini vise grip for 1 of useful for stretching boot spring .
