I fought as a Pro Kickboxer for 28 years and had a LOT of "gym wars". They were ALL unnecessary and detrimental to my fight career. I've been asked, what is your biggest "mistake-regret" as a fighter and I always say, "Participating in Gym Wars". When sparring, we are supposed to be "partners" who are helping each other improve and prepare for a real fight. It is not a "competition" and there is no "winner" in the gym. So, why cause damage to each other? Today, I just go very easy and try to "touch" my sparring partners while not getting hit myself. When you train like that, no one gets hurt and you can spar anyone from Pros to children! I wish I had learned this aspect of "the fight game" because I got and gave a lot of damage because of my ignorance regarding what "sparring" means in the gym.

I guess this is what goes on in the gym when Floyd isn't around.

For those that don't know, this was my 2nd day back in the gym. I sparred 11 rounds plus already trained hard. I was called out leaving the gym AFTER training. Anyone who know's boxing can see VERY CLEAR. I fight at 147lbs but I'm weighing 165. This guy is a light heavyweight. No excuses tho. My talent level is elite even without me sparring since Floyd's training camp in September. If I didn't have the talent level that I have, I wouldn't have been chosen to be getting Floyd ready for so many camps. Critics come with the territory so I accept everything spoken. Buy you can clearly tell who knows boxing and who doesn't. Thanks for everyone's support

I absolutely love boxing as it’s my favorite sport but I must say unless you’re making it a living and getting paid for fighting I really feel like it’s not worth getting hurt and taking those very damaging shots not only for your health’s sake but even your career as heavy sparring and training like this just adds very heavy miles that add up to making your chin weaker, body having more injuries, etc. I wish there were some kind of new headgear that protects fighters from damage to the head/brain in an effective manner but I doubt there will ever be such a thing. Maybe it’s possible to create gloves that minimize heavy impact? Like some kind of padding that drastically lessens the pain of getting hit by said gloves?
