underrated video. I much prefer this kind over those car reviews who have no idea about cars and mostly focus on whether the dashboard's made out of plastic and so on.

Except they're really screwing up a lot of the info. They say it was introduced in 2012 but they're not giving specs for the 2012 version of the engine. "This building is very strong" - they don't even know wtf they're saying. Trust me their grasp of the technicals is about as good as their grasp of english. That said, this is one of the very best engines on the market, in terms of efficiency and reliability, full stop.

I have 360,000 miles on my 2014 3 6 spd hatchback. Original clutch, no engine work needed. Last mechanic who did oil asked when I had it rebuilt. He was convinced it had a rebuild because the engine bay is so dry, nothing leaking. I've had it since 8,000 miles. It was built in Japan a few months before they started making them all in Mexico.

The timing belt was due at 240,000 km. The small Mazda 3 (2nd generation) with 2.2 l turbo diesel then continues to drive up to a quick 400,000 km. Otherwise there were the usual wearing parts that had to be replaced. But the engine lasted until it was sold. That's a lot, very little problems for actually little maintenance.

I have been driving my 2014 Mazda 3 with the 2.0L and just love it! No, it is not the fastest car in the world but it is adequate, if you know how to drive it. Naturally I have the standard transmission. I got her in 2019 at 36K and have put over 100K with virtually no problems. I do get oil changed every 5K and have done above and beyond what Mazda calls for in terms of radiator, manual transmission, brakes fluids. It goes without saying that I only burn top tier fuel. This just seems like a no brainer. Hopefully the best car that I have ever driven last for a few more years and miles!

2015 Skyactiv g mazda. Some small issues like sticky door rubbers, thin paint cannot withstand rocks also glas pitting, mirrors wont close good after a while without lubrication, left speaker blowout "known issue on internet can fix with glue" when volume bit to much bass. Driving hard all the time RPM near redzone gives noticeable bit of oil consumption so its right on the low side of the indicator stick when you have to change your oil. When driving normal fast but not too fast gives literally zero oil consumption. I change oil every 8000-10000 km. Bit hard to change from 1-2 when cold if you drive manual.

Made in Mexico 2.0L US Spec engine is very relable in 2016 auto touring sedan model. 42-44 US mpg highway on 87 octane pump gas 10% ethenol. 10 gallons of gas every month is cheap to run. 0-60mph (~100kph) in 7.5 seconds. Change the oil every 6 months as the car is driven short distances infrequently. Oil is cheap insurance against many other problems. Use fuel injector and valve cleaner to remove carbon deposits every six months. It works. DIY change the air and cabin filter every year. It is needed to keep all systems smooth. Still on OEM parts including tires and brakes at 50K US miles. Climate control flawless. Starts everytime. Will keep the car 20 years. Quiet on highway even with cheap thin carpet. Very low quality carpet have seen in a passenger vehicle. Ride is sporty and tight. No odors. No issues so far. Annoying buzz passenger side is metal plate under passenger seat. Stereo incredible. No rust. Wash Wax a few times a year. Paint still shiny, few rock chips. Garaged. No road salt here.

More efficiency by my Mazda 6 2.5l with 194 HP means easily 12l/100km. Ok, I can also drive it with 7.5l/100k. Mazda did a lot to make their engines more efficient, but to be honest, it is 100% PR.

I have Skyactive-G 2.0l 165hp in Mazda6. The engine is inferior to the Ecoboost 1.5l 165 in practically every respect. Much less torque, worse fuel economy, more engine vibrations (probably there is no balancer shaft in the 2.0l Skyactive!!!). On the highway the Skyactive is totally powerless unless one gets around 6000 rpm, then it sucks the fuel madly. So, Skyactive is a big disappointment, and a pure PR. In reality, they just make a durable turboless engine that does not stand the competition. The only advantage might be reliability, but statistically most modern engines are very reliable, especially when the car is driven on a highway at cruising speeds. It is a good engine for a grandpa who uses it to drive at 70km/h on a side road to visit his friend in the nearby village once a week. But for that one can also use Dacia or Fiat with something like 1.0l engine.

@@Sn1per9CZE Go to the highway, set tempomat at 160 km/h in both cars, and you will see. No need to drive well. Mazda cut the corners with 2.0l Skyactive by not including balancer shaft. It is probably similar an engine used on some BMW car 15 years ago .Then BMW moved to turbo engines, and one can imagine it has been done for a good reason. I had a lot of discussions with Mazda customer service and they essentially admitted the engine does have unbalanced vibrations. There are many videos in RU-vid explaining basic issues with inline-4 engine balance, Mazda has a long tradition in passenger cars and is definitely aware of where the corners were cut. The story with Atkinson/Otto is essentially the same as Toyota's VVT used since decades. Higher compression ratios are possible because of regular knocking-detecting electronics present at every engine, it is all not such a big deal. Skyactive-G is a solid construction, but the marketing campaign made me expecting more. This is why I have been in general disappointed with the engine.

Does anyone know if 2.0l Skyactive-G 165hp has the balancer shaft (balancer cartridge). In the Skyactive-G 2.5l, the balancer cartridge is mounted near the oil pump and driven by the oil pump chain. I have heard that 2.0l Skyactive-G does not have a balancer shaft. However, the versions mounted in Miata ND may have a balancer shaft. Any comments would be appreciated.

@@BennySVK117 I would definitely recommend the skyactiv Mazda 6 with the naturally aspirated (non turbo) 2.5l engine. These engines have direct injection and therefore the oil should be changed every 5,000 to 7,500 miles with full synthetic only to avoid carbon build up.

@@robbyjay8119 Thanks a lot for answer :) I can't find any used Mazda 6 with 2.5 engine, only 2.0. The 2.0 petrol in Mazda 6 2013 is bad? I think these can survive 8000-10000 mile interval with factory Idemitsu (or Mazda branded) oil but only if you're burning good gas in it and putting the miles on quickly. 12K is probably starting to push it, but people have sent in oil samples of this condition for testing and it was still acceptable to run. Most likely this was a mis-translation (like half of the rest of the video) because Mazda certainly does not say to run 12K mile interval.

@cnimi agree with you the old quote "oil is cheap steel is expensive" is still relevant. Nevertheless with a 100% synthetic oil 10,000 kms could still be considered a high frequency oil change. We were doing that in the middle east and the engines were running fine.
