The design of latest Mazda3 hatch has polarised opinion, but a new sedan version has arrived to calm the debate, with more traditional lines and a huge boot.

Liked your review very much, Fluid and factual. One area virtually every reviewer is missing is that all Mazda vehicles are built in Japan. Making them the last affordable Japanese car company that still builds cars with the goal of trouble free until 200k miles. No CVT transmissions and few turbos. Engineering shortcuts that are making vehicles disposable. Lastly, the new Sky-Active X technology could prove revolutionary with Ultra clean emissions, possibly neutralizing the overall benefits of today’s electric vehicles. Go Mazda!

Hi James Thanks for your excellent reviews. I have watched a fair few of your videos & always wonder which farewell word you’ll say at the end. I needed a suggestion. I’m tossing up between buying Mercedes A180 Sedan with AMG styling, seat comfort & vision package etc or Mazda 3 X20 Astina. I know they cater to different markets. But in terms of drive (power), technology & safety which one would you suggest. Thank you

Thank you for this informative review. Hatchbacks are nice and practical, but in case of this new Mazda 3, hatch is much less practical than the sedan, having less volume , but the same high rear part and the same trunk opening height.

SUV's definitely much more comfortable, but the drive of a hatchback or sedan is much nicer. I do like the extra visibility and ease of entry/exit of a SUV though. I would not buy this Mazda 3, I think there are better cars to be had for a lot less money.

Beats me, it would definitely make them a lot better to drive. Mazda ruined the value equation with the new 3, and used waaaaay too much black inside so it feels very claustrophobic. I've sat in the hatch and was more impressed with the Peugeot 308 in allure spec with that glorious panoramic roof. Nice perky turbo engine too.

Its a shame that they are not using a touch screen for "safety." I would argue that it is more unsafe trying to follow a cursor from a parallax position. I honestly think they wanted to look more premium is the main thought process similar to Lexus and their similar setup.
@YZJB
@YZJB 5 лет назад
Saad Sircar No. Much harder to hit small touch points with your arms bouncing around as you drive along than just rest your hand on a nice rotary controller and do most things by feel without even looking
@sad6549775
@sad6549775 4 года назад
@@YZJB I hear you but in this case, it feels like how I have mentioned. The things you have mentioned can be mitigated with proper screen size, icons and distance from the drive to reach. Other manufacturers such as Audi (watch straightpipes for their infotainment focus they only do) and not to mention Tesla. Lexus has been getting flack for it and I even used the 2019 model IS350 and it crazy how unsafe it is. (Lexus fanboy here).

Tremendously disappointing car. The value equation is gone with the over the top price rise, and it still feels very Japanese despite their attempt to move upmarket and rival European cars. It is also far too claustrophobic inside, very uncomfortable for a long journey I would imagine.

@Joe Blogs You obviously never tried the Peugeot 308 and 3008/5008 with the nappa leather option, that is HEAVEN. Even the standard alcantara and pleather is beautiful, they hug you in. Both of them also have massage function.
@bigmacdaddy1234
@bigmacdaddy1234 5 лет назад
@Joe Blogs That will wear off quickly. Big Chief is right the car is claustrophobic. Furthermore, getting in and out is not comfortable. It is an ergonomic nightmare.
@bigmacdaddy1234
@bigmacdaddy1234 5 лет назад
@Joe Blogs I owned one and got rid of it after 2,500 miles. In the two months of ownership, the rear view mirror glass fell off, the drivers side seat control panel fell out, the rear seat latches stopped working and would not latch back into place and the dash made an annoying clunking sound on the passenger side. The dealer tried to fix these issues but they just came back again. But the worst part of all was when I realized how cheaply this car was made. The C pillar is thin as foil (press on it and you will see), the hood prop is like an cheap antenna (why didn't they just put hood struts), the glove box inside is made out of plastic soda bottle material, the seat frame is thin cheap pot metal. Even the dashboard is hollow (press above the glove box on the dashboard). The cylinder deactivation does absolutely nothing to give it better gas mileage and just over complicates the already problematic engine. And there are serious recalls now. So glad I got rid of it.
@bigmacdaddy1234
@bigmacdaddy1234 5 лет назад
@Joe Blogs Mine was made in Japan. Furthermore, the complaints I have are about the actual parts not how they were assembled. The parts are the exact same across both countries of origin. The car is junk either way.

Club 1 Fan Mazdas of recent years don’t go forever because of direct injection engine tech. That’s why Toyota/Lexus stick with port injection and dual port/direct injection as DI-only would compromise longevity.
