Mazda CX-30 2021 review: What’s the G25 Astina like long-term?

7:44 Very curious comment about the transmission. It was a clean sheet design from when Skyactiv was first thought out (Skyactiv is basically a terrible marketing term covering the fact that Mazda threw everything in the rubbish bin when Ford left the building. The Phoenix rose from the ashes). The transmission is actually extremely clever as it's the answer to a question - "how do we build a transmission that does everything right?". Put simply - it needed benefits from CVT, Dual Clutch and Torque convertor. The problem with torque converters is that they transfers engine power to the transmission through fluid, which makes for smooth operation but has slippage during rapid acceleration and loss of power and economy by the fact transfer of power is through liquid. What they did was moved the clutch, so that liquid was no longer a concern. It's locked up most of the time meaning that it has a very direct and responsive feel similar to what a dual clutch has from higher gears (but across the board), and isn't as lazy as a CVT. In the US (a country that has had major increases in sales), most reviewers have even gone as far to say that it's the best automatic transmission in any mainstream vehicle. Car Care Nut is a mechanic and can't stop raving about the trans (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JVry9F-sdKg.html) "The best part about Mazdas is the transmission" Savage Geese (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3qOd5tZJi-4.html) has explained that it's not only the best AT on anything mainstream, but find that it always finds a sweet spot when driving, but then is able to perform automatic rev matched downshifts very quickly, prior to slowing down for a corner for example. I think you may have had either an issue with the CX-30 transmission. At least you didn't comment on number of gears which shows that it wasn't really the point you wanted to make. While the experienced mechanic based reviewers like Car Care Nut and Savage Geese will comment on the fact that if you map the gears correctly, 6 gears is enough - lesser experienced car reviewers just comment on how 6 speeds is old school now. Sure, it's old school - but if it's done well, then it's fine. With that said, Mazda has a new clean sheet transmission their bringing out for the CX-60, and it will be an 8 speed and from early accounts, it appears promising.

Every reviewer should have the dog test. How well does the car accommodate a dog in the back boot area.

I’m surprised people have not mentioned the mirrors, or is it just me? This is suppose to be a suv but the mirrors are tiny. You can’t see the ground. I guess that is why Mazda made the tilting mirrors but what a pain to us. It’s like a extra step when reversing. Also why can’t both mirrors be tilted down at the same time? Didn’t realise how bad the mirrors were until 3 weeks after got the car. Furthermore the design of the Mazda gives you the illusion that the car is shorter when looking out the mirrors because of the wheel arch bulb. This is just my experience after driving my new CX 30 for 3 weeks after changing from an ASX

We test drove a 2020 CX-30 Grand Touring and found it noisy at speed (both tires and wind), and the engine was really buzzy when you lean on it.

When its a cvt, too much drone..normal torque convertor and now its glitchy..i am an older guy and cvt suits me with nearly no shift shock

Now the V6 Camry has been discontinued you cannot buy a large capacity N/A sedan. I have no idea what to buy, will keep my 380.

The lane keep assist is a loose term. Not sure what it assists with as it will literally scream at you as the car leaves the road then it hurls you into the opposite lane. Otherwise I love my Mazda. Great car!

The fuel consumption on all the CX30 reviews I've read seems fairly high, Mazda say 6.6l/100km combined and you get over 10l/100km this is not good enough unless you are an absolute lead foot!

Not sure if Astina is the go to spec. Hope they make a long term review of the Evolve.

Has anyone else experienced bad air con?

The inflated price for these Mazda's, the crap air con,the harsh ride and tyre noise,the induction roar from the engine and Mazda is claiming this to be premium,love Poppy in your reviews.
