After the partnership with Ford, Mazda has just become a much better product which makes you wonder what took them so long? Mazda has one of the best interior build quality which feels better than other more expensive premium segment vehicles. Mazda needs to bring the diesel engine to SA and it will sell just as well as the Mazda CX-5, we South Africans love our diesels.
It's weird but I don't think the engine is such a bad trade-off for that price, and that warranty + service plan are worth tens of thousands in value! I would happily buy that kind of peace of mind. I'm not sold on its looks but that interior is classy👌🏾
I would just save my money and buy a preowned CX5 akere diesel with similar power This car doesn’t make much sense in SA market However, it being rear driven is quite different for a SUV of this nature 😮 Value for money is important and that warranty and service plan will bring sales reps thinking it’s time to get premium car and run it cheap for long 😂 Nice one Ash🎉
This is really good car. I would even consider upgrading to from my CX-5. Just a pity though about the sluggish engines that we are always offered here in SA.
The diesel engine in CX5 Akera, is more powerful than this one. I think they should have gone with that one and give it an extra 20kw to make it 160kw. I think then things would have been better.
oh man what an awesome car, for me I would wait for the diesel or The Hybrid but then again the price will jump to the German car range you still winning with spec.
It needs a diesel engine(unfortunately, petrol does not have the same "feel" to it and it would really improve the product. Lovely vehicle, but the engine is rather lacking and the specifications are a bit weird.
My only problem with the modern and premium car industry is having rotary dials to change gears 😭 !!!! Like just keep the gear knob , love mazda for always keeping it real 🎉
I bought one CX-60 PHEV Humora in Sweden September 2022 with all xtra you can get! It’s been at the workshop 10 times under a year………….. I had to fight with reseller for them to take it back! And they refused, too many cars in the courtyard…..and too many incoming cars!!! I couldn’t trust the car any more and back and forth to workshop! All the joy disappeared for the car! After I involved Mazda Sweden they finally agreed to buy it back and of course a big loss of money for me. But the problem is gone! Once a Mazda never again!! So maybe I got a “Monday Copy” but it’s up to you!
To put this into perspective with a proven japanese luxury car slightly bigger than this, you can get a certified pre owned Lexus RX350 still in warranty and most are fitted with a 7 year motorplan for this price, where'll you get way more features like nappa leather ventilated seats, 10 airbags, and a way punchier 220kw V6 engine, which will only get slightly worse fuel economy as it doesn't have to work as hard as this big mazda being lugged around by a NA 4 cylinder.
... And it's a Lexus. They look amazing and futuristic in comparison, so they will age better. The Mazda already looks like it's from a previous generation.
I test-drove the diesel version of this car yesterday. The power, interior design, and exterior appearance are impressive. It felt great driving on flat roads. However, the road noise was quite loud when driving over coarse chip at speed. It's not a quiet highway cruiser; instead, it's loud and boomy. The suspension feels cheap and doesn't effectively absorb bumps or road imperfections. Additionally, there was a small rattle in the dashboard. Overall, I would not recommend this car yet, but I'd like to one day, after Mazda do the engineering properly, and address the asking price. Its unresolved.
Beautiful car, a shame about the engine. For a cheaper price I'd get the Tiggo 8 Pro Max, personally. No issues with that engine, 0 - 100 in about 7.3 and all the bells and whistles you can think of.
I think the Chery looks way better. Since its new, they will escalate prices more than the Mazda, so the depreciation will most likely be very similar. An 850k car is going to deprecate like hell either way!
Mazda kept the Option Door Open. Spec, Powerplant. Current 2.5 Might not be considered Wow, but it's 2/3 Times as Reliable as German Motor. You will Not Visit the Service Centre that Often, compared to the German Models. Software are Solid and Bulletproof and will last Very Long Overall Reliabilty above Sell-By Computers. Only Nauseating Drawback, is sharing a Service Lane with Ford in Most Cases. Great Nature Shots Thanks for the Vid Ash.
While this may be good, good isn't good enough and I think Mazda slightly missed the boat. A few things: 1) Premium is also all about choice. The screen should be both touch and have the controller like in the X3 or previous Gen GLC. And if touch only, then the screen should be larger and designed for touch use in the UI to start with like the new GLC. 2) they say no touch screen is for safety reasons and I 100% agree. However, why didn't they do what they did with the Mazda 3 and make the touch function only available when the vehicle is stationary. Also, if they're so worried about safety, then all safety features should be standard even on the base model 3) this engine is unacceptable and plays more in the Rav4, CX5 segment. Not the GLC, X3, Q5 segment. 4) They should pay more attention to some details like the feel of the door handles when you open the door and the door closing sound (this was a criticism from the Autogefühl channel). 5) the infotainment system and software looks dated already. It can't match the level of the X3 and GLC. Even Chery and Haval infotainment systems seem better.
I agree. It's definitely not competition for the X3 or GLC. Compared to the Sportage or even the Tucson, it lacks in the appeal department. In 3 years, those cars will still look modern whereas the Mazda looks like it already is from a previous generation. I wonder how the seat proportions are on this one.. I found the CX 3 and CX 5 to have rather small seats for the size of the car. Some of the things the Japanese do a little weirdly. The interior is just OK. Also previous generation vibes.
i have the PHEV and it is not fuel efficient at all. Yesterday we got back from 320km trip and the fuel consumption was 7,44 l/km or 23,8 liter gas spent and the car doesn't have much power, after the battery is drained. I will sell it in first opportunity. Fuel efficient sux, never again PHEV, i hope the diesel fuel consumption is as advertised 5 l/100km
In all the reviews that is viewed Mazda to Cx90 this was actual bad to say no don't buy it and comparing this with Germans, if I was Mazda I would restrict him from reviewing my cars, so don't buy it cos of engine power what exactly was this, men doing, bad journalism
@@jasonbrown1263 Totally agree. VW managed to make a great first Gen Amarok all on their own. Why did they need Ford for their new one? It makes no sense. I went to check out the new Amarok. The doors open with such a cheap feel like a Ford and interior build and material quality isn't as good as a normal VW product. It feels very Ford and that's not a good thing. Mazda made a big mistake to not offer the i6 engines here though.
I have the KF 2.2D Akera. I easily get around 5L/100km with the diesel. Hybridsare just heavy and take away the fun i driving. That said that 2.5 petrol engine is gutless. Horrible engine. Avoid at all costs
@@farainyika2365 We don’t have the 2.5 petrol in the CX-60 in Europe. But I think it is offered in the CX-5. Plus, the 3.3 diesel is a mild hybrid, where you have a bit of electric support.
Great car, and being a Mazda the quality will be up there. Just a pity Mazda SA aren't willing to bring in all the various engines and trim levels. They did the same with the BT50and it's suffering. Nothing against N/A engines especially on the reliability front but give people a choice!!
@mbusonzimande7717 that Mazda3 looks too good, it deserves a potent engine like they offer it overseas. I agree with you 100%. SA deserves the best Mazda has to offer
Thank youu!!! Especially on the "giving people a choice part"- I like Mazda but I highly respect BMW because they'll never restrict certain model offerings from the S.A. market - they give people a choice to pick.
The August edition of Car Magazine carries an interview with Craig Roberts, MD of Mazda SA. In that he refers to the CX-60 getting the 3,3 l turbo diesel “it’s now just a case of waiting our turn for allocation” More interesting though is the yet to be released CX-80 is “likely to join the local portfolio in the first quarter of 2024”. Guess it will be above the R1 million mark though. My Wife has the CX-5 2,2 diesel Akera. More than enough shove from that engine with 140 kW and 450 Nm. Should have used that motor in the CX-60. Same power but more torque than what the 2 litre diesel BMW X3 and Audi Q5 have. Build quality superb with zero problems in over 2 years of ownership. Lastly Mazda SA needs to look at a maintenance plan in its top products or at least offer as an option.
It won't sell here in SA, not with those power figures and that price. If manufacturers continue to send cars with underpowered enginens their sales will suffer. We have so many options these days, instead of buying that I could just get myself a nice luxury bakkie or a second hand BMW X3.
I drive a Mazda 2 2015 model and the handling is quite nifty, have found myself in unfavorable unforeseen situations and it handled amazingly that It made me look like a pro driver… still smiling as type this out. 2018 I got into the BMW x2 and that being a BMW I pushed it seeking out that exhilarating experience since my M2( Mazda2😂) could tackle that curve with ease every time I’m running late going to work. Was I not disappointed as the x2 under steered at lesser speeds so bad that the product specialist told me that it does not have the X drive which would enhance the handling 🤦🏽♂️😒. Jumping into the CX-5, it handles like a smaller car than it is. The point I’m trying to make is, until the German car lovers jump into a Mazda, no matter how brand loyal or status driven they might be, they will acknowledge Mazda’s engineering even if they wouldn’t do it openly so. It’s truly a let down that we don’t get much options in as far as interior and engine specs are concerned which truly limits the amount of customers MAZDA has and can easily win over from other brands offering a bit more variety. I’m sure I’m not the only one that would love a Mazda Speed 2/3 to rival the Ford fiesta and Focus, the GTi and try the club sport 😂🤷🏽♂️ and with the CX-5 and now 60 to rival the X3M and X5… reading it I know it sounds too ambitious but Mazda has the experience and technology. What’s holding them back, only they can tell. If they are worried about the price range, Haval went looney and they presented their H6 GT at the current price range which we all feel is premature however you bump into quite a lot on the streets, so, it’s being bought despite the price range. Mazda is a much prominent brand and will do just fine. They should stop limiting our pockets as South Africa is a country known to spend on more expensive brands with high price tags. The higher the price the better (which I don’t understand 😅but would do as well 😂).
Only if @MazdaSA would take their customers concerns seriously, bro😮💨 I would honestly own the CX-60 if we had the Inline-6 Europe variant here in S.A. shem 🤞
Personally I’d wait for the i6 petrol if they would even offer that in SA. I’m disappointed in the spec that we get in SA. We don’t get the higher trim models that are offered in EU nor the engines. I’d kinda forgive Mazda SA for that coz the price would be at the million rand mark, and I don’t think SA consumers are ready to take a Mazda over a BMW or Audi
I'm trying to like how the front looks, but I'm failing. A big fan of the rotary dial, less fingerprints of the screens. Sadly most manufacturers are doing away with them
Mazda is going to watch these things wither away on dealer lots. no one in their right mind is going to buy such an underpowered car for R850 thousand. do they think they're bmw?
1. Why comparing with RR Evoque when that car is 40 cm shorter than the Mazda. It is 2 categories below 2. Touchscreen- you can have it active, you can do it by the settings. It is just set from the factory off. 3. What is that strange country where they sell only 2.5l engine ?? We get only the 3.3 big engines here!
I love mazda interiors and exteriors, but their engines are the reason I can't buy or recommend it. Hopefully, one day, they will respect the SA market and give us more engines' choices.
Good car but not worth the money, engine is under powered and not enough to justify the R749k asked for the base model they should at least add safety features AEB, LKA, LCA and rear and front cross traffic alert. The Haval H6 Luxury 2WD at R516k gives you that and has more or less similar power.
From an actual owner ... No, the CX-60 is a (small) failure... as a car. Too many serious issues. Let's not even talk about Premium... Buy a top spec CX-5/50 ... you'll thank me later.
As a happy Mazda CX-5 owner I’m not liking the front lights which looks a bit retro to me. The rear looks good but in a generic kind of a way, while interior looks and quality as well as driving experience are typical Mazda strong points. However, like another commenter said, I would also go for the Haval H6 GT whose looks and presence set it apart nicely from the others. This car deserves a more eye-catching paint colour and engine. The 2.5 litre turbo sounds like the one sold as standard with CX-5s sold in overseas markets, whereas here in SA we have to make do with the weak 2.0 litre NA engine. On the other hand, the fuel economy out of the 2.0 litre NA engine is excellent - Mazda engines are really efficiently engineered as my personal experience shows.
Tesla as comparison for premium is a terrible analogy they are not even present in this country and aparantly not very good build quality the panel gaps for eg. Mazda is much more legit
The analogy was about taking a premium brand mass market is much easier than taking a mass market brand and turning it premium. Nothing about build quality, it was also an Elon Musk 'Ouma Rusk' quote.
How can you have such a heavy car or in such a segment with a mere 4 cylinder?! Infotainment on dashboard is so outdated, very disappointed. Mazda is also struggling design, all models of their brand are identical just differ in size
Anybody who buys any Mercedes or Range Rover (which is Indian not British) needs their head read, Mazda's price point unfortunately is outrageous and typically they introduce the wrong vehicle into this segment. Their BT-50 should be selling hand over fist, as it does in Australia, yet it doesn't muster more than 10 per month versus the overrated, under specced, odd styling Hilux @ 3000 + per month.Mazda continues to shoot itself in the foot by sending in the troops to fight the specialists, it should have had the best engine, the best interior and then it would knock the socks off the other contenders. Mazda is a premium vehicle and should be a top seller sadly it isn't.
Mazda wants a premium brand. Then they should create a new sub company like the three big Japanese Automaker. Toyota, Honda, Nissan etc. Mazda needs to take the CX 70 to Europe and bring the CX 60 to North America. Otherwise keep improving on the CX 5 and make it even more like the Advanced MDX Acura for less money and more value and more premium.
I like comparing this local journalists to Europeans on their car reviews but on this vedeo I can tell he personal does not like the car that is why he went as much to compare it with X3
Test drove and sat in the cx-60. A little disappointed. The center console feels and Looks cheap. Definitely not going to last te term. Backseats are uncomfortable and small seating area. Massive price on top level. So as a CX5 owner looking up at this model I was massively disappointed.
This isnt Mazda's first premium car, evrey car they produce is the premium option in that segment, thats why its priced higher than its competitors that arent European. On this car, im not sure of the purpose in the sence of where does this fit in the Mazda lineup? How does it differ from a CX 5?
Have my PHEV (with the 4 cilinder 2,5 liter petrol engine) for a few months now and I must say that I can't find any (mayor) flaws. I can' t compare with other "premium " cars but overall I don't miss anything on this car. The way it drives, the comfort and what I use it for, confirmes my feeling that I bought the best value for money "premium" SUV.
Having driven the CX-5 for 5 years which comes with rotary dial and touch, you wont believe me how intuitive the rotary dial is. I never used my touch screen, perhaps only to show features to visitors. So don't see it as a downside. Rotary is intuitive and comes naturally instead of leaning over to touch a screen while driving.
Engine is good guys remember he is racer to him this engines needs to be matched and the cars he is comparing with being audi q3 and bmw x3 are over a million, I thought he was going to line this with volvo😅
It is the same engine as the cx 5 in a much bigger car. I have the cx 5 and it not being turbo charged is frustrating. The way it changes down to 4th on any incline does not make for the most relaxed drive.
Seems more like a facelift of the CX5 in my opinion. Is it worth the money it comes in, I think it lacks the punch. I rather buy a used X3/Q5 with that amount of money.
I'm sure the only reason why we not getting the nice powered motors is pricing. It would push towards 1million mark, and its still has to be affordable being a Mazda. Ok, so we just got our CX-60 Dynamic for 2 weeks now and my driving experience is somewhat different. This car is much much heavier than our previous CX5 and can be felt on the brake pedal, it could do with upgraded Brakes considering the weight of the car. Also, the car feels very floaty and wallowy over uneven surfaces and on bends, and it is rather stiff on the bumps. Almost feels like a car riding on lowered springs except you not but wheels are larger @ 235/50/20 so the lower profile tyre isn't helping the ride comfort much. Going over bumps it seems to bounce like the shock is worn or there is an issue with shock/spring combo used on theses cars, there is not enough dampening. One would think that the drive would be more comfortable over the CX5, and it is not. I hope there will be a recall soon for better shocks. Other than the ride, the car is lovely. Fuel consumption for me so far is 11L/100km so its heavier than the claimed 7.7.
There's talk of the 2.5 PHEV in 2024. Given how much the 2.5 AWD costs (R850k) - the PHEV will certainly approach R950k to R1m which is steep and will absolutely push the price of CX-80 to ~R1.2m.
Dont get me wrong, I like the design but for me there is something off about the wheel arches and rims. Maybe its just camera angels but will keep an eye out for it on the road.
