Honest road testing is important. It is what we try to do here. We appreciate Mazda has made these effective changes. We'll test the PHEV and petrol engines in time. If you'd like to watch my original long-term review (before the suspension and transmission changes occurred), here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2iisRWOQWoM.html

does it now drive as well as a CX-5 diesel ????
@chasingcars
@chasingcars 4 месяца назад
Interesting question. Engine-wise, the CX-60 is better. Handling-wise, about as good as a CX-5 diesel or maybe a little better. Ride is just different - the CX-5 is disciplined but occasionally sharp on its 19-inch wheel option. The CX-60 is never sharp. It is now well-disciplined, although really nasty bumps taken at speed can still cause too much vertical motion from the rear axle, which doesn't happen on the CX-5. I wouldn't say one is better or worse now. They are quite similar in results, both sporty, both firm.

@@chasingcars i bought a cx5 diesel early last year as i was waiting a long time for the cx60 to get here,and have not regretted that purchase,,nice push back in the seat and exceptional klm per ltr 7.2 over the life of the car,,i just ran out of patience after watching all those overseas reviews over a long period,,so o thought i would get the cx5 and keep it a few years and wait and see how things went with the cx60,,,so im glad i have waited,,i did get to drive a petrol one when mine was in for service and while the power was nice the gear changes were all over the place, so i will request a diesel one for a day on the next service,,this is my second mazda ,first being a 3 astina,,such a well sorted sporty drive ,,only went to cx5 due to a back injury ,,the higher entry point us essential for me now,,ive watched a lot of your reviews over the years and your team do a great job,,,one more thing Mazda for me have always been terrific to deal with ,from servicing to fixing any small problem and price of service ,cheers

I own the petrol Azami sp, an have had the upgraded suspension rework. The front suspension has had no rework done to it. Driven it from Cobar to Broken Hill . That road is a shocker for cx60. The front suspension bottoms out an feels like it is going to start flying. The road is full of waves. Replaced the front tyres at 7000,klms. The toyos go fish scaly. Replaced with Hankooks an seem a lot better an less road noise. Tom needs to go outback to really test the suspension. That road he retested on is in comparison like the autobarn.

The fact that MAZDA have actively responded to concerns is a credit to them. I fail to understand how such a vehicle passed trials in Australian conditions. The issues would surely have made themselves obvious in any test here. This is a big investment for MAZDA needing this vehicle to be successful, and one does expect some teething problems in any new model but this seemed to slip through the testing. well done on your reports on this vehicle. I would like to see this vehicle and the Series become a real success as it has so much potential.

never thought of Mazda being a premium manufacturer before but yes credit to them for not avoiding the issue. Mazda is not premium. They have massive issues with part tolerances which results in a variety of problems. Knocking suspensions, steering issues, gearbox problems and so on. Last but not least the cars lack finish. Everything seems quite cheap and flimsy. Metal is very thin, paint is incredibly sensitive. They also lack finish in terms of ride quality and road noise. They are quite far away from premium in my opinion.

dubai have one of the smoothest road in the world basically, they don't have any reliability issues to the ride, etc, it's just the fact that it's not as comfy as it could, or not class competitive comfort wise, they made it sporty on purpose, but the end product is something that rides too hard for a small luxury car, yet still floaty, maybe simply underdamped shock absorber and overly stiff spring rate

I think this car is so much better looking on the outside as well on the inside compared to the rivals - these improvements from Mazda just seals the deal for me... I know Mazda is a smaller car maker and that their cars tend to have closer to 10 year life cycles due to that And when I saw Mazda jump into the premium market I really loved it, but then as time went on the disadvantages they have against bigger brands started surfacing, just like the transmission and ride of the CX-60 or the US version of this, the CX-70, just being a CX-90 with a different bumper at the same price 💀 And I thought we were going to be doomed to that for 10 years. But to see Mazda actually come back to update their cars and to attempt to fix those issues gives me massive respect for them :') They may have needed more time or lack some of the budget, but they want to do things right like they always have. ❤️ Mazda, if you're reading this, well done, I love you, and I'll never leave your side just for this action :') ❤

I test-drove the diesel version of this car yesterday. The power, interior design, and exterior appearance are impressive. It felt great driving on flat roads. However, the road noise was quite loud when driving over coarse chip at speed. It's not a quiet highway cruiser; instead, it's loud and boomy. The suspension feels cheap and doesn't effectively absorb bumps or road imperfections. Additionally, there was a small rattle in the dashboard. Overall, I would not recommend this car yet, but I'd like to one day, after Mazda do the engineering properly, and address the asking price. Its unresolved.

How can you compare a VW Touareg with air suspension or BMW X3with adaptive suspension and say they are better? Of course they are as the CX60 is just a basic suspension. You need to compare apples to apples. Having driven a Q5 sline the Mazda is a better suspension. Bear in mind, it has 20inch alloys, so most cars with that size of wheel have issues.

Interested in your thoughts on the PHEV after the changes. As a p50e evolve owner I am irritated with the power delivery/transmission weirdness. The biggest problem with the new Mazda CX-60 is actually the poor quality of the suspension, which is too rigid and completely spoils the ride comfort and also the driving safety. Fortunately, Koni has released special shock absorbers for this model. I fitted them on my CX-60 3.3 Turbodiesel and the comfort is a bit improved. However, I find it shameful that I had to spend CHF 2000 to drive my car in conditions of sufficient comfort and safety! According to Mazda's Swiss customer service this problem simly doesn't exist

I drive around 40000 km per year so not caused by short drives or aggressive driving. Eg I get 65000-75000 km out of factory tyres. Noted my experiences is n=2. The stats are against Mazda diesels. Not sure they have fixed the problem so I would not go anywhere near diesels from Mazda. Proven later by court case with ACCC. Mazda did change the engines under warranty. However we have no confidence in their cars. Mazda would have to take my two cx5 back and give me a petrol to get me back to Mazda. Currently driving a RAV4 with confidence.

Great vid , looking to upgrade from cx5 to cx60 how did the mild hybrid system work . Some reviews I’ve read say it’s a bit clunky.

Hi Mark, thats exactly what I did. Had 3 CX 5s and loved them. The CX 60 is exactly the next car I wanted since Ive been driving diesel since 2012 and I love the Soul Red colour. I expected getting the 1st edition of this new model was risky so I caught every online review that existed before I bought. I just had the suspension/transmission fixes installed this week and Tom is correct. It has fixed the ride for the most part. Big speed bumps still give it a little goose but nothing like it was. The ride on smooth highway has always been great and I really enjoy crusing up and down the motorways. I will be taking a trip down to Fitzroy Falls and Berry soon to test out winding bumpy roads next. The hybrid system works fine. I never liked the iStop feature so I always cancel it except when cruising on the highway. Get some great gas mileage then. round the city of Sydney Im a bit heavy footed so Im getting around 8.5l /100 with the iStop off. My CX5 didnt do this well and it was a lot lighter.

Thanks Pete , looking to upgrade in about October. Going to have the cx5 serviced in a few weeks so will take a cx60 home for a few days if Mazda will let us , I don’t want to just take one around the block for a test ride like to put a few 100 km into one before making a decision. Do like the Kia sorento as well going to have a look a both , I would like to stick with Mazda as this will be our third Mazda in 7 years .

If you try a demo from a dealer, reckon you can be assured it has the improvements? And same if you buy a demo? The dealer could just claim the fixes are in place?
@Fleish3

Update: the first dealer we visited wasn't aware there was a transmission or suspension upgrade. The second dealer: had heard demo units, near new or new MY23 may need the fix, but was totally unsure IF or when they needed to be added... total confusion all around

Can you advise us on what year to buy which has the upgrades, I currently like the diesel model, in nz they are around 65ish for 22 model, thanks Warren.
@soarin12
@soarin12 День назад
Fellow kiwi here, the diesel versions sold by Mazda NZ are usually imported from the UK for the 2022 model year. NZ new CX60’s produced (built ) after September 2023 have had the updates from factory. Check with your Mazda dealer to verify if updates on a particular diesel model have been made. Likely to be software only.

I bought the 3.3L turbo mild hybrid SP. Loved that car. They are offering me a "Comfort Suspension Enhancement Recall." I am wondering if that will make my car less firm? I kinda like the present ride.
@aygeeninty771
@aygeeninty771 4 месяца назад
I'm in the same boat wondering. The ride is already pretty good and it handles when driving aggressively. My only criticism currently is the rebound is a bit much on speed humps at the shops. Apparently the iStop gets disabled too which means it's no longer really Hybrid.

Service update. Mazda replaced the rear shocks and install a bushing or something to prevent the rear from bouncing up too quickly. Mazda also installed new software to address the drivetrain issue when switching from mild EV to petrol. Overall, I'm happy with the suspension now. More comfortable, less upward bounce on higher speed and no more rattling feel or sounds. However, I'm not sure about the new program to the drivetrain. It's smooth but kinda lost that bolting out of the gate feel. Less pick-up.

Now maybe they can do the same for the CX-90 in North America?

In South east Asia, Mazda don't even give us the navigation card anymore. So Road signs like speed limits cannot be read anymore.

Which country specifically? For Philippines, they don't give out anymore (because they assume that everyone has a smartphone so Waze is better)

@@blackcyborg009 SIngapore, i can't accept this because of the price we pay and even my old CX5 had this feature which was very useful. You dont use AA or Carplay all the time and knowing the speed limits on certain roads are very helpful. I will think twice next time when i decide to buy a car. Why are Europe or N America getting this feature but not us in South east Asia? Its bullshit.

What about CX90 ? Because it has the same issues ?
@hedydd2
@hedydd2 20 дней назад
If they test them that thoroughly, how come they missed testing the original build vehicles at all by the look of the evidence provided. All this doesn’t inspire much confidence in Mazda engineering, even though they have modified these two particular issues. What about the longer term durability, longevity and reliability of the new engines and transmissions? Have they tested those with the same lack of vigour and diligence? See what I mean about confidence and the questions this debacle raises?

the wierd thing is, that the PHEV was way worse than the diesel, but even that suspension was so bad. I don't get why you want such a car to be firm? make it comfy, and offer a sport suspension for those, who like it sporty... the suspension was the reason not to buy this car. sad, that in EU u cant get that cool interior trim with the brown leather and the posh looking wood

Transmission I'd say is 100% fixed (on this diesel tester), whereas the suspension is more like a 40-50% improvement. Very noticeable, though not still not what I'd call perfect. Remember, I am picky. That's my job!

It's was a pity to hear the cx60 had issues with suspension and gears. Still compare u It with cars with adapative or airquspension is not honest. Indeed those make a car very soft but also not always perfect, eg i have an older F series BMW with the m adaptieve damping well honestly i also hate it in comfort it makes the car having touch body roll. The thing is should a suv be sporty? If yes then i will need to be suspensed hard . Also you are driving the car empty. It's designed to bring the kids to school or carrying lots of cargo . Maybe then the rear will be less jumpy? Its a pity the car is still not perfect It's a beauty and the interior one of the best classics one you can still get.
