nd miata is one of the best modern sports cars I’ve ever owned. No driving modes need to be chosen, only one push of button to switch esc/tc off, lightweight, manual, torquey engine, reliability etc. It teaches you to be a better driver, let you know how to control your car on the limit and be a part with your car. People don’t understand miatas until they drive it.

Met Tom Matano at a Miata gathering in Sacramento a couple months ago. One thing he said that stuck with me was He wanted to build a fun car with the cost of ownership like a Corolla. Not just maintenance and gas mileage, but insurance too. He said that convertibles were more expensive to insure and that keeping the HP down, they could keep the car affordable.

As an 86 owner, I have great respect for Miatas and the efforts they've put into this platform. Always would love to come across with them as both the 86/brz and mx5 community seem to have somethings in common. Lightweight, RWD, High-Revving NA and most importantly, the handling and balance from both cars. Tackling through the twisities and mountain pass is where these types of cars truly shines.

Its my second miata as i had a mazdaspeed turbo'd one in highschool and you cant beat the way it handles at that price point. Down the road i'll put the edelbrock supercharger on it, heavier sway bars, and a posi to make it really fly and make it handle great. I wish this documentary engaged with the younger crowd (20 somethings) too. I started a Miata club in my state because the older generation of owners already had their club and with their retirements/free time, the younger crowd went by the wayside. So the new younger club has more modifications, helps with builds, have barbecues, and go on drives as well. (not as often because of work and school, but still!), it's a car that really does mix generations together, it's always a blast. I love the older folks who talk to us and shoot the shit.

Owning a Miata is a liberating experience. Especially if your coming from a Porsche Boxster. The Boxster is great but is higher maintenance and not as much fun to drive. Miata is lighter and much more nimble. It’s just the most nimble fun car I’ve ever driven and fast enough because it’s so light. When you own a Porsche you worry about mileage and it’s condition. The Miata is bullet proof and easy to live with. It’s cheap to buy and cheap to keep!!! Fun and easy to live with on a daily basis.

@@aceofspades6667 : You have it exactly figured out, except I would advise that you buy NOW, and not wait a few months. Inventory will be low of the most desirable model -- which happens to be the one you want. Mazda is offering 0.9% financing for 60 months and no payments for the first three months right now -- no telling when they will change that. No payments for three months -- that's like another $1,000 off, on top of the below-market interest rate. In effect, Mazda is paying you now to not wait the two or three months you're thinking of waiting. Also, dealers are already taking around $4K off the $30K MSRP. Dealers could go lower, but not much lower. If there's a Mazda in your household (even if someone else owns or leases it), you get another $750 off. Search out current inventory online and make a deal for what you want now, before it's gone.

This is a pleasant surprise. Great editing and music. I never gave Miata's a chance, despite being a huge JDM nerd in the early 2000s. I finally drove a lightly modded NC about 5 years ago at Harris Hill out in Austin. It blew me away how fun it was, how perfect the steering felt, how I could carry speed through every corner and just rip it. I was instantly hooked and traded my 328 for one a couple weeks later. While the stock NC is a bit of a boat, no doubt, coilovers and a few exhaust bits make this car a blast to drive every single day. I'm in the Miata for life club, for sure.

The 30th Anniversary model makes it 8 Miatas for me as well, though I've been addicted since 1993 :) Thanks for contributing to the legacy of this great lineage, with your video series!

I have professionally repaired and driven every generation of the Mazda MX-5. They are all awesome! Awesome beyond belief. These cars are brilliant in design. Everyone should drive an MX-5 at least once in their life. You will have a smile with every mile while driving any MX-5.
