I just learned that pop-up headlights for brand new production cars aren't actual illegal, just more trouble to develop/make than normal ones. They were to solve a problem with US headlight height regulations on low cars that doesn't exist any more. Pedestrian safety is an issue too, but that could maybe be solved by using a dual hinge/spring system that allows the lights to be pulled backwards into the body when a pedestrian impact is detected! In conclusion, you could put pop-up headlights on the next MX-5, Mazda. You could do it if you wanted to.

2021 i was passenger in a miata first time (ND) 2021 i drove a miata first time (NA) 2022 i bought my first miata (NB) And now i will forever own atleast one. Every summer that will be my summer car. Maybe even winter at some point 😎🫶
