Sounds like a good way to sell more parts. I’ve never needed brand matched strut mounts on any car I’ve ever owned.

Idk. I doubt that’s the case, but if it was, KYB would be dumb for doing it. Can’t use my existing strut mounts with your product? Great, I’ll buy another brand. I’m also a big proponent of just buying coilovers. If you’re going to have lowering springs and spend money on buying struts and shocks to go with them you might as well just buy the coilovers.

It doesn’t have to be. If your dampers are in good condition, you can get away with about 1.5 inches of drop. There are springs as low as $60 that work just fine for looks.

@@HiroshimaSpirit How badly do you think a spring-only swap would affect the ride quality? My understanding is it can get pretty bumpy if you don't go for performance struts as well. Excellent channel btw!

Really it depends on how smooth the roads you typically drive on are, but I wouldn’t use just springs on dampers that old. Mine were relatively new and the roads local to me are decent. All that aside, I recommend saving for coilovers. There’s no comparison.

That’s what they mean, yes. Simply saying “get an alignment after you’re done” doesn’t sound very technical. lol

The rear can be converted to discs, but there’s no benefit other than looks and it’s really expensive. Drums are lighter, cheaper, and to answer your other question, they literally last forever. It’ll be a long time before you need to change them, if you even keep the car that long.

The 2 has electric power steering. The motor is on the steering column.

+Juan Alvarez The ones installed in this video are Megan Racing springs on stock struts and shocks. It’s my old setup that I used to run before purchasing Fortune Auto coilovers. The rear springs each have one of the useless helper coils cut out to provide a little more rear drop. I documented that in an older video.

Agree . I will perhaps change spark plugs myself . Better avoid beginning with more complicated operations , I don't want to call the mechanic for towing my car ha ha .

Mine has coilovers.

+remytv I get that a lot, but I’ve been wrenching on my own cars for ten years and have never been hurt because I didn’t have shoes on.

@@HiroshimaSpirit I am going from the OEM to a Ksport coilovers, I did the struts in the back with no dificulties, but when I went to the front, I placed the new one trying to keep the same distance as the originals but when I was about to put the sway baf it was 3 inches over the hole were is suppose to go on the new coilover. if I raise the shaft on the coilover to match the sway bar, the wheel assembly goes way to high and my wheel tilts. I try to put everything at a close distance to prevent a alingment but that trew me off.

You either need Fiesta struts or top hats for them to work. Can’t remember which.

I recommend just buying coilovers if you’re going to do springs AND shocks. The cost is so close and coilovers are so much better that it’s a no-brainer.

I use rockauto.com for replacement parts. 👍🏻

I went straight to coilovers after those Megan springs, so no. I’ve also never had any issues with clunks. Are you sure that everything is in place and tight?

It's weird, I changed the shock twice already (once under warrenty) and re-installed it myself and it's only because the roads are icy/shitty and it's cold that I notice it...it might just be some of those strange noise that car makes when it's cold out. I'm kind of stumped since there isn't much things to move back there, the bushing and the shock.

Best I could recommend is to just make sure the two top bolts for the shock are tight and that the spring is fully/correctly seated.

I’m on coilovers. The springs from this video were on my car before that.

Purchase and install stock suspension.

Like, fully assembled with the top hat and everything? I’ve never seen “loaded” struts for the 2 sold anywhere. It’s not difficult to swap the parts over to new struts.

The only other car that’s bolt-on for suspension components is the Ford Fiesta, but I’ve never seen loaded struts for them either.

Lowering springs are going to pretty much feel and perform the same. Pick the amount of drop you want, a price you can live with, and purchase away. There are no wrong answers with springs for the 2, especially a street car.

@@HiroshimaSpirit I just think it will look neat when lowered. I am also thinking about getting an engine brace for my car too. Just little mods done, not over doing it. I still have my standard K&N panel filter in my car. Have not changed to SRI kit yet. Performs and drives well :) i might need to take my car to a suspension expert to fix the springs in.

Just under 1.5 inches. Only drawback is it won’t ride as comfortably as stock, but that goes for any modified suspension.

It can be even a worned out driveshaft, which is very dangerous to drive with it if the sound persists when you drive straight.

All over the place. Ebay, directly from the manufacturer, etc. Wherever I can get them for the best price. You’re at a bit of a disadvantage in the UK because all of the good stuff is either made here in the US or Asia and shipping drives the cost of parts way up.

Tell me about it. In been recently looking into maybe the possibility of buying an older Mazda 3 with the 2.3 ltr engine and seeing if I can shoehorn it in there but I don't know if I wanna do that on this little Mazda 2. I'm gonna check eBay just now thanks man. Once I start my mods il give an update.

If you were to do an engine swap in the 2, you’d want a 2.0 or 2.5. The 2.3s aren’t very good engines. 👍🏻

They’re all basically the same size, so yes.

Simple. The wood works as a spacer and lifts the car higher. Rather than jacking it up one side at a time, pop a block of wood in there, lift it from the center tow hook, and place your jack stands all in one go. The jack we were using just wouldn’t lift the rear wheels off the ground by itself.

At the time (note that this video wasn’t uploaded yesterday), I had about 1000 subscribers, of which only 300 or so (judging by average channel analytics) would immediately watch a new video before the views slowed to a trickle. This particular one has had time to build a view count that I couldn’t have possibly predicted when I made that comment. Views for a given video and regularly returning subscribers don’t necessarily correlate. That comment was about my regular viewers, not the thousands of casual viewers who (statistically, I might add) watched two minutes of the video and clicked on something else.

This isn’t exactly a step by step how-to as much as me answering as many questions as I thought I might receive. The fronts were pre-assembled since they came off my car before going on this one, so there’s more to it than what was shown. You will need an alignment after any suspension component replacement or upgrade. I mention at the end of the video that I was going to throw a quick garage alignment on his car so he could drive home.
