I was 18 as well! Wow ! Just graduated high school entering college. He was young Frankie then. You had to be there, and being from New Orleans it was all the buzz . He actually did two shows that night. The Seanger theater was rocking man🎵🎶!
I put them right up there with Earth Wind and Fire back in the day . They didn’t need any gimmicks . No fancy costumes, no magic or fancy choreography . They flat out jammed ! That they never got recognized for any awards is a sin !

Frankie and Maze, deserve a living legend award as well as they need to be inducted into the rocking road music hall of fame. We never seem to give the R&B singers there just dues.
I remember when my cousin went to this concert and turned me on to Maze I was 14 yrs old in New Orleans 3rd ward (loving them Southern Girls) I'm 55 now living in California (Look at California) this Album changed my Life. God bless all

You're right about the lack of Grammys, but MAZE received quite a bit of radio play back in the '80s, especially on the "Quiet Storm" format radio stations. They still get played today.

I understand that they were discovered in San Francisco by Marvin Gaye, but I think that they were launched in New Orleans. NOLA put them on her shoulders started them towards stardom. I remember going to this club in NOLA, I think the name of the club was The Horse (I might be wrong about it). But They were playing there, on more than one occasion. And of course they played the festivals. I believe you could find people in the city who believe to this day that they were from there. Regardless, Frankie Beverly and Maze were loved and nurtured and adopted by New Orleans. Maybe that’s where Southern Girl comes from.

If I could go back in time, I just might not come back! Took my wife to see Maze feat Frankie Beverly in 98 she NEVER heard of them. We sat on the hillside grass and Frankie was Frankie! I've been rocking with Maze since the 70's and I'm still rolling.
