It sounds like small towns and wasted afternoons. Or walking on a really long trail with a friend you haven't seen in a while. Love this time in music.
@@davidwright873 don't know if you were there, but that's just not true; the cold war had ended, the forever war against terrorism had yet to begin and the beginning of a new millennium was upon us. It was a very optimistic time, people were excited about the future
SaintPhoeniix i’m 21. i literally just think she is a stunning woman. why do you feel the need to say No ShE wAs.. like ok if you think that whatever but i don’t. i think she is still stunning. get a life. you’re a fucking weirdo.
I used to paint to this when I was 19 living in a halfway house in Phoenix, AZ. I was getting clean from heroin and sober for the longest time since 17... a month. Talk about having all your emotions come out at the same time. I was fortunate to have oils and watercolors, my Pentax K1000 and my beautiful keyboard I recorded on and still do. I always felt like this music took me back... even when I was 14 and started high school listening to Pearl Jam and Radiohead, Depeche Mode and The Cure, slower songs always made me feel like my body was being taken back in time... like I wanted to go back. I feel that way now, ... I'm 38. I'm clean, and I have that same feeling as I did at 14 before I touched that stupid garbage. Being melancholy is just a part of some peoples personalities. If you can embrace it and make it your ally, it's kinda like a friendly ghost... ~cheers to all the music lovers
Danced to this on my wedding day. Everyone was probably thinking... "What is this?" It is one of the more beautiful songs out there, especially when you listen to it with better audio quality.
mazzy star has always been my favorite. since i was a kid, i’ve heard this song in the most random places, i hope it never stops slipping back into my life.
Hi S Bishop, this song and Wicked Games by Chris Isaak are two of my favorite songs from that time period. Not sure if you have heard Wicked Games, but figured I would throw it out there. Maybe you'll like it!
I don't underrate it...? And I think that goes for most of us? But yeah I could be wrong. Still, I think it's perfectly rated. Neither underrated nor overrated, justtttt perfect.
you guys are a special kind of stupid aren't you? It's not a solo, she just stops singing. It's pretty much the same thing he is playing through out the whole song.
Conan is the man. At the final, he took the time to shake hands with everybody in the band, not just the frontman or frontwoman in this case. Fallon does not do that
the first time i heard this song was a few years ago in the car with my mom. it was a late night drive. pitch black sky, windows rolled down, the cold wind blowing heavy. it’s an experience i’ll never forget and i reserve this song especially for my late night drives with her. SUCH a magical song!!!
This song is genuinely one of the gems of the 90s and it was written by Hope herself, who pretty much had stopped going to school at age 13 and just stayed at home listening to records until she started a band with her best friend. They even played a couple gigs with Sonic Youth before she joined Opal (ended up being renamed Mazzy Star). It all started because her friend gave a demo tape of their band to David Roback (lead guitar), and Opal's lead singer randomly left the band while they were touring with The Jesus and Mary Chain... I mean, it's almost like a movie with how things worked out. 😅
man... the last man on earth... what an image, what a concept. One thing is for sure, whoever is that man, it will not be a human being, it will be MAN a perfectly male and female being, all in one at the same time. 'male AND female he created them' Genesis 1:27
@@chiefchimp4377 good thing you chose to watch a celebrity on a celebrity’s talk show then scrolled through the comments to read about the celebrities. Fuck I hate hypocrites
[Verse 1] I want to hold the hand inside you I want to take a breath that's true I look to you and I see nothing I look to you to see the truth You live your life, you go in shadows You'll come apart and you'll go blind Some kind of night into your darkness Colors your eyes with what's not there [Chorus] Fade into you Strange you never knew Fade into you I think it's strange you never knew [Verse 2] A stranger's light comes on slowly A stranger's heart without a home You put your hands into your head And then its smiles cover your heart [Chorus] Fade into you Strange you never knew Fade into you I think it's strange you never knew Fade into you Strange you never knew Fade into you I think it's strange you never knew I think it's strange you never knew
I watch her every Christmas day as a tradition. Song puts so many perspectives of my regnum ..into reality Merry Christmas, to those who "landed" here, with her.
A song that captures a beautiful and simpler time in history when humans connected with humans- real interactions…no social media, no text messaging, just raw humanity.
Rest in peace Mazzy Star co-founder David Roback. Song sounds so chill/sensual, and so 90's. *"FADE INTO YOU* Strange you never knew Fade into you *I think it's strange you* *never knew"* (Songwriters: Hope Sandoval / David Roback)
Exactly... Great way to sum this up. One may even be so bold as to add: Gently swaying slowly... Fully aware of what's going on... Yet choosing to ignore it all in complete and utter silence... Until everything and everyone fades away... Shall we dance?
When Conan comes out at the end of the song, check Hope's reaction. She looks frightened and confused like someone who's just been shaken awake from deep sleep.
@@seesee3413 Yep, she lives her music. She feels every ounce of energy like the lyrics are happening to her on stage. This is part of the reason why she never made it as big as she deserves - her emotions got in the way I think (just speculation on my part). She and her band mates are geniuses though. And she is so goddamn dreamy. I feel like I am in love every time I look at her. It makes me feel like a creeper, tbh. But I can't help it. lol
For anyone who wants to play this on guitar, here's how :) - Standard Tuning - No Capo - - Chords & Strum Pattern - A, E, Bm, Bm For each chord, strum: Down Down, Up, Down, Up (x2) Repeat this for almost the entire song! The only place the chord progression changes is VERY briefly towards the end of each chorus (the second to last time through the chord progression for each chorus), in which it changes to: A, E, Bm, D Hope this helps out! If you get stuck or need a little extra help, I posted a video lesson for this on my channel :)
When she's shaking Conan's hand she looks at him like he just arrived from another planet. It seems like she's still in the song and he might as well have materialized right next to her.
Back then she was not a peoples person, very shy and uncomfortable with the fame that came with being a famous artist. She probably felt Conan was invading her personal space.
She definitely comes across as shy and socially awkward...but she was just possibly really overwhelmed and caught up in the moment. At least back in this era...I mean this was like their first time on national television.
The first girl I ever loved was inthatuated with mazzy star / opal. This was about 2001 fall at the University of Montana in Missoula. She was perfect. It left a mark.
She seems so fragile and vulnerable on stage ,but if she stared in to your eyes ,she could steal your heart ,and burn a hole through your soul if she wanted to . Hauntingly beautiful song . Thanks for posting :))
“From the wounded soul, comes poetry and music. In return, music and poetry heals the soul.”🎶 I found this quote in a hauntingly beautiful poetry book, “12:12 Midnight” by Danielle Ever Rose Love this song🖤✨
She seems super shy and humble. I find it refreshing since a lot of musicians are attention whores. Brilliant song. This track will forever be in my music playlist.
Hope Sandoval is so, so beautiful in every way. Her voice has been in my dreams for more than 20 years now. Every song on every album is a memory that will never be forgotten.
Music is fascinating. The power it holds. Or the power it has on us. I really think the experience of hearing n seeing someone express musically is a fractal of something much bigger, deeper, about reality. And it's the reason we feel it so profoundly.
2:40 am in the morning I'm here sittin listening to this, one of those deep tracks that have u In a daze by her soothing voice that takes you into another dimension of time . Perhaps the golden era , early 90s when artists sung with their souls, a breathtaking moment that captivated your mind for minutes on end, and you enjoy every single second of it, as if it were your first time hearing Fade Into You
Nothing beats the earlier years more than right now does. I miss the simplistic times of the 90s and early 2000s. What a time to have been alive and experiencing in. Goddamn. I wonder if every generation thinks this same thing.
i agree this is a great song very simple but speaks volumes ..the whole song is in A E and B and a D every now and then during the chorus ..this one of those songs that just is soooo simple and yet it grabs you ....it mostly her voice ..she has a voice like silk ..and she sings it like she is whispering into the ear of the person she is in love with ..amazing song man ..teared me up...
im actually practicing this to do a cover hehehe and I believe ur right. this song is a gift to all humankind, esp those with hearts and souls for music
he wrote for snl in the late 80's, made a couple of appearances on the show... then wrote for the simpsons in the early 90's (some of the greatest episodes btw) before landing this gig.........
Only watched this for a second, because time just went by. Soooo mesmerizing no matter how many I've watched it. Im 49 years old and probably beyond the prime of my life (c'mon guys you know how it is) but man this brought me back to the roarin 90s. How the fuck did we miss it? In a blink of the eye it just went by......dust and newspaper flying about. It was a good decade. Watching this.....well... this song will forever etched to my 90s memory bank'. It was a great decade. Gawd, and now it is only the 8th day of 2021....Covid is still everywhere. Trumpster got the boot.... the silly git.....what will the future will be? For one thing it will NEVER come close to the amazing 90s. Forever love this song.... forever in love with Mazzy Star and Hope Sandoval.
Actually listened to a Hope Sandoval album before I heard her with Mazzy Star and just loved it.That was about 18 years ago. Still listen to this day. Tremendous artist with such an amazingly beautiful voice. Truly underrated.
This songs flashes me back to the time when I was still young and eager ... sweet memories with a tear on how time flies ... and when you are young, you have no clue how great life is back then... until you turn old ...
I don t care if she is weird or scared as alot of people sumize. I think she is brillqnt and those eyes could melt down a nuclear reactor and her voice is a mixture of innocence and a tinge of naiveness topped wtth the cherry on top simply wonderful. Im hooked
