Mercedes-Benz convertible soft top replacement video for the R129 SL-Class, supplied to North American dealers on VHS videocassette. 1990. Extremely valuable for anyone working on an R129 car.
Love this video. Was enough to put me off doing the job myself, but was clear enough that it helped me trace a fault in reinstallation which had led to bending the frame! Think twice when fixing those Velcro straps!
I think this is more complicated than the R107 soft top.I installed one about 15 years ago and seems like it was an easier job and I did it with the help of written instruction instead of You Tube videos.I hope my experience helps because I plan and replacing my top on my R129 next spring. One question I have for anybody who knows is if instead of staples I could sew the two pieces that are stapled together.
We don’t, that would have been a bit too early for the video guides AFAIK. We may have a filmstrip pack covering it, however, I can check and upload if so.
I am using DAP roof sealer. The old top must have had something similar because it looked like it was applied with a caulking gun.DAP is supposed to be a waterproof adhesive so I am going with that. I shouldn’t have any problems with it.
