I've watched every Ky. Game that Coach Tubby coached while at Lexington!!!!! I've been a UK fan ever since Joe B Hall... and Tubby was a great Coach....
I was a student at UK 2001- 2003. The Team would have an open practice once a year for the students..... afterward you stood in line for an autograph/picture with Tubby. The guy in front of me asked him "Do you ever get tired of signing your own name?" Tubby said "Never, sometimes in life your name is all you got" I was mesmerized as a young man.
Very cool moment. Yes Tubby did get run out of town by fans and the UK administration, but we all still appreciate all the hard work he put into the program and the class he ran it with. I’m glad we got to recognize him in Rupp one last time.
I live in detroit moms from Louisville but went to uk dad was born in 1939 in the Eastern hills of Kentucky listening to Rupp games on the radio. (He had me at 51 in 1990) so as far as basketball especially Kentucky its religion to me and my family. I've only been to one game but it was the basketbowl at Ford field against msu. In i believe 2003 or 2004. Anyways the game broke the attendance record for most people to ever attend and watch a basketball game ever. I remember seeing tubby walking out of the tunnel and thinking damn this guys tall as hell compared to on TV. So when ya showed a clip of tubby dunking on here it brought back a good laugh. Miss the teams he had. They always brought it. My favorite players/teams in Kentucky history were from his era. Not old enough to say that I watched any prior. Thank you Coach Smith for the great memories that will last this UK fan a lifetime.
When I was in middle school my friend and I ran into Coach Smith at the UK basketball museum inside of Rupp. He was not there for an appearance or any event. We asked for an autograph, we had nothing for him to sign.We quick ran to find paper .We ended up buying a ball at the gift shop. My friend and I both thought that he would be gone when we returned. Sure enough he was still there . He spent several minutes talking to us. Such a nice man. Glad to see him honored and the cheers from BBN.
He was the coach when I first became a UK fan. I got a little choked up watching the ceremony today. What a great man and a great coach. Proud of our fan base for the love they showed to him and Donna today
I cant get over the beginning of the song. Good kanye sample and then the shit kicks in an you can literally differentiate kanyes own genre his personal sound. As well as be able to tell what time frame this came from. Its like Michael Jackson in 80s and 90s you know which one is 80s Jackson and 90s Jackson. Kentucky doesn’t deserve him. The way they ran him off was pathetic. He accomplished the same, if not more, than Calipari in 10 years with way less talent. I remember he had a death glare at players when they messed up lol.
A few assholes. There are tons of Kentucky fans that love and respect Coach Smith. Total class act, cared about his players and fans, and more integrity than most people.
