Not really, they were all actually getting paid fairly back then. They just saw Eazy was making more and Brian turner offered cube more money, and told he would pay cube 100k for each NWA member he could get to not sign to ruthless. That is the reason why cube was trying to tell them not to sign. People dont realize this because of what Cube and Dre say, but if you look into it they weren't getting ripped off

MBDR - you are getting pretty close to having completed all the important content in the west coast hip hop movement. If you want to complete this highlights of this movement before branching out, here's what's left. The Chronic is the last major G-funk album. Then to complete the Gangster Rap component you should do NWA (Straight Outta Compton), Ice Cube (Amerikka's Most Wanted) and most importantly Tupac. Tupac's biggest two biggest albums were All Eyez on Me and Me Against the World. Once you have finished off the early west coast stuff you might move into some of the early East Coast Rap. Here's a rough timeline of the NY-centric east coast scene: -Very Early East Coast: 1987 Eric B and Rakim's Paid in Full (this and the Public Enemy albums are both hugely influential in shaping the future of Hip Hop everywhere), 1988 Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, 1991 A Tribe Called Quest's The Low End Theory (an example of NY Jazz rap, very influential musically, the kind of stuff that the public's favorite rappers liked even if the public themselves didn't appreciate Tribe as much as they should have) -The Golden Era of Hip Hop: 1993 Wu-Tang Clan's Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers (if you think Eminem is crazy these guys will knock your socks off), 1994 Nas' Illmatic (Nas and Jay Z are rivals and they have produced some of the all time classic albums), 1994 Notorious B.I.G.'s Ready to Die (Biggie and Tupac, you know how they are related), 1995 Mobb Deep's The Infamous (a classic, RIP Prodigy 2017), 1996 Jay Z's Reasonable Doubt, 1997 Notorious B.I.G.'s Life After Death, 1999 The Roots' Things Fall Apart (the Roots and Mos Def were pioneering in Conscious Hip Hop, a backlash against the violence, materialism and misogyny that had become so commonplace in Hip Hop at the time), 1999 Mos Def's Black on Both Sides and Jay Z's 2001 The Blueprint.

Re Muck: At the end of my comment I said early west coast, but I see that I didn't in the opening. That's what I meant. Obviously lots of important stuff came later. That being said, I was trying to make it as concise as I can be. MBDR has currently listened to 3 hip hop albums. How much did you want me to swamp him with? I tried to stick with the most influential stuff that would also resonate with a youtube audience. Going east I didn't mention De La Soul or Busta. I didn't mention LL. I didn't mention KRS-ONE (leaving off Criminal Minded was probably the biggest omission) or Bambaataa. Again, how much homework do you want me to be assigning? Gang Starr? The Score? Liquid Swords? Cuban Lynx? EPMD? Cypress Hill? Beastie Boys? Hell I would like to have him listen to Regulate, cause I think he'd love it, but you can't drink from a fire hose man.
@bobbydigital3061
@bobbydigital3061 6 лет назад
West coast is a hell of a lot more than the chronic. Gfunk was just as good in Above the law's black mafia life, uncle sams curse, time will reveal. Then you have the funk from Dj quick all the way to rythamilism in 96. Then the Bay Area funk. Spice 1, too short, e-40. Straight classics. Like the other guy said, the whole hieroglyphics crew from del, casual, souls of mischief. Then project blowed, freestyle fellowship, haiku de tat, ras kass, the list goes on. East coast- Jeru the damaja, digable planets, wutang, big l, lord finesse, gangstarr, rakim, Krs one, the list goes on. 87-97 was a classic period Metal biker dude's journey has just begun
@jonthomas3065
@jonthomas3065 6 лет назад
See my above comment. I meant early west coast. Obviously he needs get to the more recent stuff eventually. Hell, nobody has even mentioned Kendrick yet.
@bobbydigital3061
@bobbydigital3061 6 лет назад
Jon Thomas everyone I mentioned was during the chronic time frame and before. above the law and cold 187um taught Dre the gfunk method with black mafia life which would have been released in early 92 if not for Dre holding up that release. Uncle sams curse is so good and came out when doggystyle did. But ATL was talking about real issues, and less commercialized than Dre and snoop. Why does metal dude need to do Kendrick Lamar. I could list off better albums from the 90’s west coast that would eclipse anything that dudes done. Kendrick is a good rapper but his albums are way way overrated. I like your list and yes we should recommend guys like gangstarr, wutang, jeru. All these reaction guys listen to the same albums or songs, like this is the best hip hop has, when there is more obscure stuff that is way better.

Just to give you a little perspective, Ice Cube was the principal lyricist for N.W.A., but he wasn't getting his due for writing most of the music for the LP "Straight Outa Compton" so he left the group for a solo career.....The remaining members (including Eazy E & Dr. Dre) made a diss track on Ice Cube calling him a "Benedict Arnold" and "No Vaseline" was Cube's response.....N.W.A. never recovered from that song and broke up shortly thereafter......Hope you finally watch the DVD "Straight Outa Compton" to get the full scope behind "No Vaseline"

I know you said you’d like to broaden yourself to more genres so I’ll recommend someone that’s a MC and singer - Lauryn Hill. Her songs, The Ex-Factor, Everything is Everything, To Zion, Doo Wop, Lost Ones, etc. Her album is certified classic. But if you’re interested in newer singers also try out The Weeknd, Daniel Cesar, Ari Lennox, H.E.R, etc. For newer Hip Hop J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar are the two most popular lyricist, although Big Krit has a strong presence. Loved the reaction

Ice Cube left NWA and went to New York to work with the top DJ in New York. If you seen the NWA movie then yhou will notice Public Enemy n movie and if you listen to his Americas Most Wanted album it has a New York slash LA style. I believe No Vaseline was also made their.

The music sampled is Dazz by Brick; A vocal sample from It's My Thing by Marva Whitney; A vocal sample from To Da Break of Dawn by LL Cool J and I think there is a vocal sample from Eddie Murphy sample in there as well.

Yes this diss is for the whole group. Ice Cube killed them with this diss. It's so insane that Dre and Eazy never came back with the diss song against Ice Cube.

Jerry Heller was the manager for NWA. And yes, he was Jewish. Recognizing Jewish people probably couldn't care less about Compton rappers it's safe to say he was just out to get money. Cube recognized that and bounced, went solo, made millions, then started acting and made his own movie production studio. Now he's extra rich. He ain't from Compton though 😂😂😂😎😎😎
