My partner used to commute to Boston on the commuter rail from Warwick RI every day. I always thought it was interesting that absent our own regional/light rail system, we just pay MA to extend the MBTA's service out-of-state to Providence, Warwick, and Wickford RI. Talk crazy ticket costs, take a look at the zone 10 pricing... Wickford Junction RI to South Station Boston MA is the single longest journey/most zones of any of the MBTA commuter rail lines. My partner's zone 9 pass for Warwick fortunately was covered by his employer.

I Agree, MBTA should invest more in electrification and the center city tunnel project to link north and south stations.

@@The4905 Agreed about finally connecting North and South Stations and electrification. The fact that MBTA is using so many old locomotives (and coaches!) is kind of sad. While we're at it, RI could use our own better solution than an extra long extension of the MBTA.

The entire system in "The T". By that I mean the name includes the Subway, Bus, Bus Rapid Transit, Ferry AND Commuter Rail even though the CR is operated by Keolis Commuter Services under contract for the MBTA.

I used to go from Wonderland station in Revere to North Quincy at least every other week. Blue line, orange line then red line. Cool seeing it on RU-vid.

Nice video! I used to travel between quincy and Boston very often when I was younger. I do want to just note that the price on the commuter rail is $6.50 one way. The $3.25 is the reduced fare

I don’t like all of the homeless people at South Station. Great Video though!

I appreciate your attempt to cover commuter rail in the Boston area but your efforts fell short. The first thing, which really irked me, were your comments about the age of South Station. The station was opened in 1899 and is older than either Penn Station and Grand Central Station in New York. South Station was totally rebuilt in 1985 and features like the high ceilings, which you praise, were left intact. If you have no sense of history, that's your problem. Most of us appreciate the charm an older building as long as it remains functional. Let's talk about the fare. You purchased a discounted one way ticket between South Station and Quincy Center that cost $3.25. The regular fare is $6.50. Almost no one uses commuter rail between these two stations because the MBTA's Red Line subway line runs parallel to the Old Colony commuter rail lines through JFK/UMass, Quincy Center and Braintree and the fare is $2.40 regardless of the distance traveled. That $2.40 buys free transfers to/from other rapid transit lines and one free transfer to/from any local bus lines. You transferred FROM the Red Line to commuter rail. Had you stayed on the same line on a Braintree train, you would have been at Quincy Center 19 minutes after your subway train left South Station. You also cry-babied about the lavatory being out of order. There were several cars on that train and each car has a lavatory. A quick walk to an adjoining car could solve that problem. You also speculated about how horrible it would be if someone going all the way to the furthermost stop in Greenbush would be without lavatory service for that a trip. The scheduled time from South Station to Greenbush is only about 1 hour. Perhaps you need to do some research before making other videos.

thanks for the feedback, but i couldve sworn there was only 1 bathroom on that train. (not that i needed to use it)

I will try my best to do more research on the train stations in future videos, also you pointed out i should've used the red line to get to Quincy center, and yes, that's faster, i just wanted a quick experience on the commuter rail that's all, i was not in a hurry. i also was not staying in Boston for a very long time so yeah.

i also was not at the top of my game when i recorded this video and this video is probably not my best, i do plan to go back to Boston and do a much better review on MBTA's commuter rail, on a route that would "make sense" more like to Worcester, Newburyport or to Hyannis (by make sense i mean that there is no alternative way to get to that certain destination and it would "make sense" to take the commuter rail. )

Also, Boston South station looks in historical anyway, the front may look nice but the interior could use work.
