Author’s note: This was filmed before the month long shutdown, so all the slow zones are still there.
Join me as we travel southbound on the historic MBTA Orange Line through Medford, Cambridge, central Boston, Back Bay and the South End on a new 1400 series railcar - destined to replace the aging 1200/1300 series units. Now featuring destination displays and automated announcements.

I'm very glad that the train beeps 10 times before the doors close, compared to the 2 before. I feel like this gives more time for passengers to be prepared for closing doors. Though the beeping when the doors are open are super annoying, it has been reduced to once every 2 seconds instead of every second
@Jon_Nadeau_
@Jon_Nadeau_ Год назад
It shouldn't even be necessary to have all those beeping noises. Any idiot should already know that the doors will close because....well... it's a door!
@JasonBentrosnowqube
@JasonBentrosnowqube Год назад
@@Jon_Nadeau_ that's not yrue the beeping is for those who are blind to know that the doors are closing.
@Jon_Nadeau_
@Jon_Nadeau_ Год назад
@JasonBentrosnowqube well personally I think even a blind person should obviously know that a door will eventually close. The original 2 beeps was enough.
@VeeTHis
@VeeTHis Год назад
@@Jon_Nadeau_ Yeah, blind people know that the door will eventually close, but it's not like they can SEE it start closing. The extra beeps give more warning so they're not still trying to get in when they start closing.

0:10 👋 also those doors sure do beep a lot. I guess it must help those with limited sight?

I like your train videos! The Subway Trains, Commuter Rail Trains, and High Speed Trains is like we’re on Star Wars!

I regularly use orange line when I was in Boston in 2001, newer trains in cities are now different, they have TV screens to announce progression of train and computer audio announcing which station is next/arrival. Previously, I can hardly hear the train driver's announcement - its like a very brief radio voice announcing station (arrival) "_ommunity colleg_" ... it often sounded the audio is being clipped at the beginning and the end, and the coach smells bad in some cases

I remember the old trains very, very well. They were my first subway cars, and they are very nostalgic to me. Those trains operated all the way up until this past September.
