I was very young when this commercial was made and even back then it made me tearful when the little fella couldn't catch up to join in the fun. I loved this commercial ever since. If your uncle is still with "us", tell him, sincerely, thanks for such a wonderful, lasting memory. I'm 39 and it still comes roaring back every holiday season.
The 80;s were a magical time for TV. I feel sad that the children of today will not get a chance to experience commercials or shows as children from the 80's.
No reason to feel bad. They'll make the same memories from today's commercials and shows just like you did as a child with your commercials and shows. Life is a never-ending repeating cycle from generation to generation.
Why does ronald seem so wholesome to me?? My heart just swells with joy when i see him being nice to the kids! This is going on my top 10 most wholesome characters!
You know for all the slack that McDonald's has taken for childhood obesity, Ronald McDonald commercials always encouraged activities. He'd have the kids dance, do sports, and play outside. I always loved these commercials because even though he was a restaurant mascot, rarely did we ever see the kid actually eating.
It’s really sad that we don’t see Christmas commercials like this anymore. commercials like this really made the Christmas season feel more special and Magical especially when your a kid.
I remember as a little boy watching this commercial in the early eighties. I thought Ronald McDonald was real and not just a character. I was in awe when I saw this and still like going back to one of my childhood memories and watch this. Don't make them like this any more.
ah yes, what a beautiful sight. Kids going deep into unknown areas of the forest and running into some guy dressed as a clown who takes them skating with him, so bliss. And not at all disturbing.
I love the ice skating commercial, it always gives me that special Christmas feeling. Growing up Christmas wasn't always something my sister and I looked forward to. When this commercial came on, I would call my sister into the living room, telling her a special treat for a little brat was on. That would always make her laug, that helped us feel better about Christmas. I just wish McDonalds would air this again, I can record it on my DVR, and play it for Michelle and my nephew. Thanks for posting it, truly thank you, it boosted my spirits.
What a great childhood memory for myself when things and the world was so much better u know growing up I had fast food for treats and admit did not eat great all time but yes we were really active always playing running and still at 43 I am and will teach my son when he grows up that he can have treats but not this all the time totally agree but this is special place in my heart
This classic McDonald's ad ran from circa 1986-1992 and was one of the 5 or 6 yearly Christmas commercials I would look forward to that would get me all excited for Christmas day. I'll never forget this ad as long as I live, I swear that there is just something magical about it and I still come to RU-vid every year to view it before Christmas. It's too bad fun commercials like this don't air anymore, I think today's children would probably love it as much as I did.
it was fun on the day we went Christmas shopping every year in the 80's & we would get lunch at Mcdonalds or if we Christmas shopped in the evening we would get McDonalds for Supper
This commercial was sort of the mark that you knew that the holiday season had started and was in full swing. You also knew that when you saw this commercial it also meant something awesome.........egg nog milk shakes!
and those kids were never seen again. some people claims that if you enter into that forest, and repeat "ronald, ronald, ronald", a ghostly clown will appear and take you away with him. the only protection you can trust, is a whopper. be safe. be beautiful. be responsable. always carry a whopper in winter time.
I always make this comment. While growing up, we would record movies and such on TV. While watching the movies later, we would fast forward the commercials. All these decades later, here I am watching 80s commercials on youtube because they are just that good.
Wow, this brings back memories. Thank you for uploading this. I have this on a VHS somewhere with all the Christmas cartoons. It has a lot of old classic commercials like the Double mint gum twins and many others.
Some of the best commercials came out of not selling their product in the ad. This is one of the classics. It wasn't about selling McDonald's food, although, I do eat at McDonald's every chance I get to. I love their food. Another one that will become a true classic is the new Budweiser Clydesdale commercial from the 2013 Superbowl. The ad did not sell beer, but was every bit as awesome as this one.
I can see how this may be scary to people who didnt grow up in the 80s, but times were more innocent to say the least. There is a a sense of sentiment in this commercial, from a McDonalds commercial mind you, that people wouldnt know how to make now, or even grasp,. The 80s were the peak of many things, sad but true.
I remember when this came on and I was a teen. And even then I was totally creeped out by Ronald mcdonald. It was supposed to be loving and supportive environment for kids and it just felt super creepy
@cpwndProductions Just for fun, I am going to point out that you were born the same year that the late Jim Thorp's family was given replacas of all of the Olympic Medals that he had been stripped of because of a technocality. His family had been fighting that battle for years! Facinating!
I remember this commercial when I was a kid in 1987 and now I have twin 7 yr old boys and THEY would be pissed if they didnt get to ice skate with/meet ronald lol
@triciaeveringham very well said. It is easy for people in 2011 who did not grow up in a certain era to just say "its all relative", but your statement in my mind is correct. From someone who grew up in the 1980s, I can tell you in a very simplistic statement, that people were not as paranoid in general, and it was simpler. Broad statement and the 80s were by no means perfect, but I would take them over 2011 in some categories.
this commercial is awesome....I love the story line...why don't they make commercials like this any more..or at least replay these old ones...come on corporate America..you don't have to spend millions on new ones, just reuse the treasures you already have....
This commercial is pretty light hearted with all the cartoon animals, and the cheerful music and whatnot. I'd say it's pretty innocent, but to be honest, if Ronald Mcdonald grabbed me like that kid at 0:45, I would sh*t my pants lol.
Goddamn! Seeing this after all These year's into My Adulthood.Makes Me want to Cry 😢.All I had to have was My 1985 Mongoose Freestyle Bike. And My Head Snowsuit and Goggles and My Atari 5200 Home System.LOL 😂
