I never had the biopsy, but from the bloodwork, my dr said I had a 98% likelihood of having CD. I was in my mid 50's at dx, but had many symptoms of CD. Because of late dx, I now have many autoimmune diseases, including necrotic (dead) bones, brittle bones, and many others. It is of my opinion that everyone, starting at school age, should be tested at least every 3 years for CD. Even if they have zero symptoms, but especially if the child is not learning and keeping up with the other kids, if they sleep or sit around a lot... would rather take naps then play and have signs of depression (anger, crying, suicidal thought/actions). CD does not always show up as bowel issues. Sometimes we don't see the symptoms because doctors think it is all in your head. That's why many with CD are sent to psychiatrists.

McDonald’s in Germany has no gluten-free burgers but Austria and Italy McDonald’s has! As a German that’s why I always go on vacation there 😂

I’ve been diagnosed with a blood test only because they said my blood test levels were the second highest he had ever seen, and said the biopsy would do more harm than good because I would be eating gluten again 😅

Interesting! I got diagnosed without a biopsie myself (yes, very controversial) during pandemic/lock-down times, they couldn't perform an endoscopie at the time. I did tested positive to TTG-IGA and EMA, given that EMA is very specific, the chances of not have CD after a positive results is most most unlikely. Also concerning CAD-risk in celiacs, I wonder if that is due to dietary pattern, which I would assume so. Eating whole grains is associated with lower CAD-risk and a lot of gluten free processed foods are made out of starched such as rice, potato, tapioca, while are all very low in nutritional density. In my opinion something the gf food industry should really be paying attention to, as I believe they have the best intentions in getting us back on track with safe food.

Brilliant as always. I believe I also had L8 poop once. I was on holiday in Majorca and thankfully was in the apartment. No warning just water! This was a day after I'd eaten three slices of eggy bread....soon after found out I had developed intolerance to eggs! That was a holiday to remember!!!

It’s worth pointing out that naturally gluten free food isn’t necessarily accessible to everyone either! I’m disabled and sometimes I just can’t cook.

My GP told me the gastroenterologist she spoke to said because of my age (30) and the fact that my antibody levels were 10 x higher than normal, he would put me on the waiting list for a biopsy but that I should start a GF diet immediately 😂 and they sent me to a dietitian appointment and i started my diet and definitely feel the brain fog starting to lift. So yeah maybe no-biopsy is a bad idea but a lil bit of common sense might be needed. All I know is imma stick with GF and I will laugh a hell of a lot if I end up not getting a biopsy for a year and turns out my gut has since healed lmao.

I was diagnosed a month ago with blood tests and a biopsy. I didn't know biopsies might not be necessary.

Corn contains Zein another gluten mimicking protein....ugh!
@howtocoeliac

It’s not a mimicking protein, it’s from the same family but a different branch along with most other grains and is completely safe for coeliacs!

If you can move to Scotland, do it. We get points to spend on GF food at the pharmacy every month, on prescription, meaning we don’t pay.
