This is the same way I feel about the algorithmic rent that is hitting us so badly in California. I actually talked to one of the property manager reps about this when I was trying to negotiate my rent. She said "you're already below what the algorithm says the best market value is for us, so you're getting a deal". I assure you I am not getting a deal in this crime ridden hole. It occured to me they just don't get it. People are going to move. They aren't going to pay this. I listen to domestic violence all night from my neighbors, I get robbed, my packages get stolen. This is not worth 2 grand a month. It's just not. People will move. Their algorithms are not advanced enough to really understand people yet.
@theclamhammer4447
@theclamhammer4447 12 дней назад
They haven’t lost anything. That’s the whole point here. They literally have built a machine that finds the tipping point for each and every individual person. They know personal A will pay $XX.xx while person B will pay half of that price. They’re tailoring price to the point at which each person will continue to purchase while simultaneously maximizing profit on each person. Losing money? Maybe short term but in the long run they will find the fine line on each customer and extract the absolute most profit as ever.
@Bonanzaking
@Bonanzaking 12 дней назад
Funny it didn’t stop people from paying even when it was “cheap”. The dollar menu would’ve been a ripoff to you if you remember burgers for a nickel. Or for 15cents when McDonald’s started. And back then 15 cents was not cheap. People will keep paying the current prices you think are absurd. It’s all a matter of perspective.

The “consent” part of this surveillance is where I want government to step in. Right now they can say “either consent to these TOS or you can’t do business with us.” But if every business is doing it, then the reality becomes “consent to these TOS or you can’t be part of the future.” And eventually you won’t be able to participate in the economy at all if you want privacy.

I agree with you to a degree. But so much of what we use is like this because it's "free" this whole free/add based pricing model is reliant on it. If you take it all away just be ready to pay for everything the old fashioned way again. I do think they might be able to legislate the TOS to make them brief, easy to understand and some kind of "WE SELL YOUR DATA" disclaimer front and center. However, I think in reality the cheap convenience is worth more to the average person than all the negative downstream consequences.

I don't understand how so many people are missing the point that this is not just McDonald's. As other people have stated in this comment section, this is an issue that will continue to grow unless legislation stops it, which it won't. Imagine another pandemic, imagine we are told to isolate again and most stores are closed or have limited hours. Think of the ways they could price gouge us using our data in that scenario. But that's just a single example. I don't eat at McDonald's, it's clear you don't either, but if that's all you got from this segment, think harder.

My approach is to always be cheap and shop at places where prices are transparent - mostly at the supermarket. On Amazon, I put an item in the wishlist and watch the prices change to get an idea as to price patterns. And I can leave something there for months or years. And it it's been there for a long time, then I'll just delete it. It's amazing the range of prices you can get over time. A long time ago, people were far more price-resistant. I suspect everyday credit and access to debt has made people less price-resistant.

I should have pics of this but I'm just wondering if anyone else out there has noticed this. It's been happening for a while. I'm also seeing more and more items being covered under welfare programs.
